  • This paper aims to evaluate the quality characteristics and healing performance of precast concrete incorporating self-healing technology as a key technique for the construction of smart cities. The study found that precast concrete mixed with hybrid capsules exhibited a tendency of reduced slump and air content, impacting the quality characteristics. Specifically, the slump decreased by up to 14 %, and the air content by up to 9 %. Moreover, the inclusion of hybrid capsules in the concrete resulted in a maximum decrease of 16 % in compressive strength and 18 % in flexural strength. However, the introduction of hybrid capsules significantly enhanced the crack healing performance. The assessment through water permeability tests showed that the healing rate of 0.3 mm crack width after a 28-day healing period improved as the mixing ratio increased, with the healing rates at 1 %, 3 %, and 5 % hybrid capsule mixtures observed to increase by approximately 16 %, 25 %, and 32 %, respectively.

  • Polymer coatings are commonly applied to metal substrates to prevent corrosion in aggressive environments such as high humidity and under salt water. Once the polymer coating has been breached, for example due to cracking or scratches, it loses its effectiveness, and corrosion can rapidly propagate across the substrate. The self-healing system we will describe prevents corrosion by healing the damage through a healing reaction triggered by the actual damage event. This self-healing coating solution can be easily applied to most substrate materials, and our dual-capsule healing system provides a general approach to be compatible with most common polymer matrices. Specifically, we expect an excellent anti-corrosion property of the self-healing coatings in damaged parts coated on galvanized metal substrates.

  • In this study, the healing performance of hybrid self-healing concrete was investigated by mixing bacterial pellets(BP) and solid phase capsules(SC), respectively, based on organic-inorganic self-healing material(MC). Constant water head permeability test was applied as a method of evaluating the healing performance, and the healing rate and the healed crack width calculated by the equivalent crack width were used as evaluation indicies. As a result of the water permeability test, when the initial crack width was 0.3 mm, the healing rates of MC-BP and MC-SC were 2.1~3.0 %pt higher than that of MC, and the healed crack width of hybrid concrete increased by 0.017~0.018 mm. In conclusion, it was found that the self-healing performance was not significantly improved even if the two types of healing materials are used together.

  • In this study, self - healing microcapsules which can be mixed directly with cement composites were prepared, and the quality and crack healing performance of cement composites with self - healing microcapsules were evaluated. In the past, it has been focused on evaluating self-healing capsules and crack healing properties. Therefore, self - healing microcapsules have been studied for their effect on the quality of cement composites when mixed with cement composites. The table flow and the air flow rate of the cement composite material mixed with self-healing microcapsules were found to have no significant influence on table flow and air volume regardless of mixing ratio. Compressive strength and splitting tensile strength tended to decrease with increasing capsule mixing ratio. As a result of evaluation of crack healing properties according to water flow, initial water permeability decreased, and reaction products were generated over time and cracks were healed.

  • In this paper, a solid capsule was prepared using a crystal growth type inorganic material capable of hydration reaction, the quality and mechanical healing properties of self-healing mortar with solid capsules were evaluated. Solid capsules were mixed 5% by mass of cement. Reloading test results of compressive load, it was found to improve about 20% on average for the natural healing effect of Plain, in the case of the elastic range, the healing rate was about 79% at the 7 days of healing age and 98% at the 28 days of healing age. Reload test results of flexural load, in the case of the elastic range, the healing rate was about 79% at the 7 days of healing age and 98% at the 28 days of healing age. Through these results, it is judged that the healing performance of solid capsules has also an effect on mechanical healing properties such as strength in addition to the durability properties obtained by the permeability test. Since the strength tends to decrease as the solid capsules are mixed, it is considered necessary to compensate.

  • Either absorbable or nonabsorbable sutures can be used in meniscal repair. Some surgeons prefer nonabsorbable sutures because they believe that nonabsorbable sutures improve meniscal healing as compared with absorbable sutures. But, permanent existence of sutures in the lesion could make problems. We report a case of Inside-Out meniscus repair that nonabsorbable sutures came out of the joint capsule tearing the substance of the meniscus.

  • Purpose: The present study was aimed to examine the effect of acellular dermal matrix ($AlloDerm^{(R)}$) grafted to the experimental tissue defect on tissue regeneration. Materials and Methods: Male albino rabbits were used. Soft tissue defects were prepared in the external abdominal oblique muscle. The animals were then divided into 3 groups by the graft material used: no graft, autogenous dermis graft, and $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft. The healing sites were histologically examined at weeks 4 and 8 after the graft. In another series, critical sized defects with 8-mm diameter were prepared in the right and left iliac bones. The animals were then divided into 5 groups: no graft, grafted with autogenous iliac bone, $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft, $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft impregnated with rhBMP-2, and $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft with rhTGF-${\beta}1$. The healing sites of bone defect were investigated with radiologic densitometry and histological evaluation at weeks 4 and 8 after the graft. Results: In the soft tissue defect, normal healing was seen in the group of no graft. Inflammatory cells and foreign body reactions were observed in the group of autogenous dermis graft, and the migration of fibroblasts and the formation of vessels into the collagen fibers were observed in the group of $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft. In the bone defect, the site of bone defect was healed by fibrous tissues in the group of no graft. The marked radiopacity and good regeneration were seen in the group of autogenous bone graft. There remained the traces of $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ with no satisfactory results in the group of $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft. In the groups of the $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft with rhBMP-2 or rhTGF-${\beta}1$, there were numerous osteoblasts in the boundary of the adjacent bone which was closely approximated to the $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ with regeneration features. However, the fibrous capsule also remained as in the group of $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ graft, which separated the $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ and the adjacent bone. Conclusions: These results suggest that $AlloDerm^{(R)}$ can be useful to substitute the autogenous dermis in the soft tissue defect. However, it may not be useful as a bone graft material or a carrier, since the bone defect was not completely healed by the bony tissue, regardless of the presence of osteogenic factors like rhBMP-2 or rhTGF-${\beta}1$.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the emotional response of user to LED light colors in healing bed system in cypress tree. Eight colors of LED light were provided including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet and white. And three illumination color temperature were provided including 3,000K, 5,000K, 8,000K. Seven subjects in their twenties were involved without the medical history of eyes and heart disorders. The subjects were exposed to LED lighting during 5 minutes and their emotional response was evaluated through the following: first, at the physiological effect heart rate variability(HRV) was measured during the stimulation; second, at the emotion level the subjects were asked about lighting color and color temperature through a survey. Results, lower color temperature of 3,000K and green color shows high value on HRV. We have found that there is a difference of physiological and emotion level effect depending on color stimulus. This study could be applied to reference data to analysis of a decrease in fatique and charges of brain waves for color stimulus.

  • Liver fibrosis is part of the wound healing process to help the liver recover from the injuries caused by various liver-damaging insults. However, liver fibrosis often progresses to life-threatening cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. To overcome the limitations of current in vivo liver fibrosis models for studying the pathophysiology of liver fibrosis and establishing effective treatment strategies, we developed a new mouse model of liver fibrosis using polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG-p), a humidifier sterilizer known to induce lung fibrosis in humans. Male C57/BL6 mice were intraperitoneally injected with PHMG-p (0.03% and 0.1%) twice a week for 5 weeks. Subsequently, liver tissues were examined histologically and RNA-sequencing was performed to evaluate the expression of key genes and pathways affected by PHMG-p. PHMG-p injection resulted in body weight loss of ~15% and worsening of physical condition. Necropsy revealed diffuse fibrotic lesions in the liver with no effect on the lungs. Histology, collagen staining, immunohistochemistry for smooth muscle actin and collagen, and polymerase chain reaction analysis of fibrotic genes revealed that PHMG-p induced liver fibrosis in the peri-central, peri-portal, and capsule regions. RNA-sequencing revealed that PHMG-p affected several pathways associated with human liver fibrosis, especially with upregulation of lumican and IRAK3, and downregulation of GSTp1 and GSTp2, which are closely involved in liver fibrosis pathogenesis. Collectively we demonstrated that the PHMG-p-induced liver fibrosis model can be employed to study human liver fibrosis.
