  • This research was to develop Taekwondo trunk protector(Hogu) and head protector's sizing systems corresponding the regulations by World Taekwondo Association. These sizing systems were established using 2003-2004 Size Korea anthropometric data. The result can be summarized as follows: According to the analysis of correlation, most measurements had high relationship with weight for Hogu and head girth for head protector. Six sizes(47, 54, 59, 64, 70, 76) for Hogu and 4 sizes(52, 54, 56, 60) for head protector were suggested in this study. Hogu sizes indicate body weights and head protector sizes express head girth measurements. By the comparison between current Hogu sizes and new sizes, the smaller sizes of new Hogu were bigger than current sizes in bust girth, back fastening length, shoulder length. On the other hand, the bigger sizes of new Hogu were larger than current sizes in bust girth, back fastening length, shoulder length. In addition, new Hogu's lengths were shorter than current Hogu in all sizes. The lengths of Neck to collar bone in new Hogu sizes were longer than current Hogu. In case of the head protector, there were no measurements besides outer circumference of helmet in recognized specifications of WTF. Therefore some referable measurements such as head girth, head length, bitragion arc, sagital arc were suggested in new size specification. When helmet sizes were suggested, the thickness of the NBR foam also were considered.

  • The larval head capsule width, larval weight and length of mulberry longicorn beetle, Apriona germari Hope were measured when the larvae were exuviated in artificial diet rearing. The larval head capsule width from the 1st to the 12th instar was ranged from 0.12 to 0.69 cm, and growth ratio of each instar was significantly high between the 1st and the 2nd instars. The fitness to Dyar's law for the larval head capsule width was 87.6%. When the logarithum of the larval head capsule width is plotted against the number of instars, the calculated regression line was LogY=0.12086+0.06998X and Dyar's constant was 1.18. The larval weight was increased with larval developmental stages, and the coefficient of variation of larval weight was apparently high. But the calculated regression line was LogY=-0.91592+0.25959X and Dyar's constant was 1.25. The growth ration of the larval length was clearly high between the 2nd and the 3rd instars, and that of larvae from the 4th instar was decreased. The calculated regression line was LogY=-0.16932+0.09841X and Dyar's constant was 1.25. In conclusion, our results suggested that the larvae growth of mulberry longicorn beetle appeared to be highly related in the larval head capsule width, larval weight and length.

  • Three species, Gymnogobius urotaenia, G. sp. 1 and G. sp. 2, collected at Hosan-river, Hosan-ri, Samcheock-si, Gangwon-do, Korea, were examined for the study of sexual dimorphism. The three species have peculiar nuptial pigmentation during the breeding season: all females of the three species showed an intense black coloration on the ventral part of the head, the pelvic fin, the anal fin and the margin of the first dorsal fin. There was a difference between G. sp. 1 and the other two species in 1/3 from margin of first dorsal fin. Namely, G. sp. 1 showed an intense black coloration, whereas the other two species had an intense yellow coloration. All females of the three species showed the same, intensely yellow coloration in the ventral part of the body. Males of G. urotaenia and G. sp. 2 had almost the same nuptial pigmentation, however the former showed diffuse black coloration in the anal fin, whereas the latter had an intensely black anal fin. Males of G. sp. 1 differed from those of the other two species in their yellow color on the ventral part of the head, the pelvic f ins, the anal fin, in contrast to the diffuse black coloration in those parts in the other species. The genital papilla of males was triangle-shaped, but that of females was heart-shaped. Significant differences between sexes include: G. urotaenia, 7 characters (body depth, head length, snout length, upper jaw length, head depth, pectoral fin ray length, eye diameter); G. sp. 1, 11 characters (body depth, head length, caudal peduncle length, caudal peduncle depth, snout length, upper jaw length, head width, head depth, anal fin ray length, pectoral fin ray length and caudal fin ray length); G. sp. 2, 10 characters (body depth, head length, caudal peduncle depth, snout length, upper jaw length, head width, anal fin ray length, pectoral f in ray length, caudal fin ray length and eye diameter). Of the 5 characters which showed differences in all three species (body depth, head length, snout length, upper jaw length and pectoral fin ray length), females had higher values than males only in body depth, whereas males values in all other characters. The upper jaw length was the most distinctive sexually dimorphic feature, the upper jaw extended beyond the posterior margin of the eyes (p<0.001) in males but not in females.

  • This paper describes the lightning arrester transients in cable head termination. The installation references of cable head tower and lightning arresters are firstly reviewed, then the performance of lightning arrester operation is also evaluated based on lightning overvoltage analysis by the change of grounding lead cable length. This paper finally proposes the optimal length of grounding lead cable at the cable head termination. The limited lightning current is also proposed according to the change of grounding lead cable length. The results will contribute to protecting insulation breakdown failure against lightning surge at the terminations and joints.
