  • Numerical Analysis for exchanging seawater experiment is carried out in Do-Jang fish port. The change of tidal velocity and water level is derived by the two-dimensional nonlinear shallow-water numerical model. To calculate exchange rate of seawater with the change of tidal velocity and water level, a two-dimensional numerical model is employed which governing equations are Fokker-Plank equations. The calculated exchange rates of each time are described in tables and figures.

  • The LRA(Logistic Regression Analysis) conducts a quantitative analysis by collecting a lot of samples and the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Program) makes use of expert decision influenced by subjective judgment to a certain degree. This study is to suggest a combination method in mapping landslide hazard by giving equal weight for the result of LRA and AHP. Topographic factors(slope, aspect, elevation), soil dram, soil depth and land use were adopted to classify landslide hazard areas. The three methods(LRA, AHP, the combined approach) was applied to a $520km^2$ region located in the middle of South Korea which have occurred 39 landslides during 1999 and 2003. The suggested method showed 58.9% matching rate for the real landslide sites comparing with the classified areas of high-risk landslide While LRA and AHP Showed 46.1% and 48.7% matching rates respectively. Further studies are recommended to find the optimal combining weight of LRA and AHP with more landslide data.

  • To propose a new fire hazard assessment criteria of interior finish materials, the properties and incident heat flux of interior finish materials in a compartment fires are investigated and compared by using flame spread model developed by Quintiere. The properties considered on which fire growth depend are including flame heat flux and thermal inertia, lateral flame spread parameter, heat of combustion and effective heat flux and thermal inertia, lateral flame spread parameter, heat of combustion and effective heat of gasfication. ISO Room Corner Test(9705) is applied in the model and the time for total energy release rate to reach 1MW is examined. The results are compared for the 24 different materials tested by EUREFIC. Dimensionless parameter a, b and ${\gamma}$b are used to develope a new method in which fire hazard of interior finish materials can be classified resulting from correlation between b and flashover time. Results show that if b greater than about zero, flashover time in the ISO Room-Corner Test is principally proportional to ignition time only.

  • In this paper, two methods, Stepp's and EQHAZARD, are introduced and applied to a recent earthquake catalog for the entire Korean Peninsula that can estimate the seismicity by incorporating the incompleteness of the earthquake catalog. EQHAZARD method, different from Stepp's method in that it used priori information besides the assumption of stationary Poisson process of the earthquakes, produces the higher seismicity rate for the smaller earthquakes. EQHAZARD method are also used to estimated the incompleteness of the recent earthquake catalog for the southern part of the Korean Peninsula in terms of the Probability of Activity for the specified earthquke magnitude classes and time periods. It is believed that the Probability of Activity thus obtained can be used as a strong priori information in estimating the seismicity for a seismic source within the region where there are not enough earthquakes detected. Finally, it is demonstrated that the arbitrary selection of the methods. of incompleteness analysis brings quite different seismic hazard results, which suggests the need to employ a rigid quantitative method for incompleteness analysis in estimating the seismicity parameters in order to reduce the uncertainty in the Seismic Hazard Results with the EQHAZARD method being one of the competent practical alternatives.

  • Background: The surface mining industry has one of the highest fatality rates among private industries in the United States. Despite recent decreases in the fatality rates of comparable industries, the fatality rate in the surface mining industry has increased. Meanwhile, a lack of safety research in surface mining has hindered efforts to improve safety strategies in the surface mining workplace. Method: This study examined quarry workers' hazard identification skills by conducting a case study of a surface mining facility in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Semistructured interviews were conducted with eight quarry workers who were employed at the mine facility. In addition to the interviews, data were collected through field notes, notes from an expert meeting with safety managers, and site photographs to explore quarry workers' safety behaviors in the workplace. Results: The results showed that quarry workers identified hazards and improved their safety performance by translating safety knowledge learned from training into practice, acquiring hands-on work experience, learning from coworkers, and sharing responsibilities among team members. Conclusion: This study contributes to understanding quarry workers' safe performance beyond what they have learned in safety training to include their interaction with other workers and hand-on experience in the workplace. This study informs practitioners in the surface mining industry to build a safe work environment as they design effective safety programs for employees.

  • Introducing a concept of 'the Effect of My Mom's Friend's Son'(MMFS Effect) into the conventional job search theory to develop it further, we try to estimate its effects on the hazard rate of youth pre-employment duration with some proxy variables such as his/her parents' schooling, monthly temporary/daily workers ratio, monthly average wage differentials between the workers of large and small firms. The results confirm us the fact that so called 'MMFS Effect' has been strengthened gradually up to recently. Their policy implications are as followings. Firstly, from the standpoint of shortening job searching period of youth and raising the hazard rate of their unemployment, the trend that the differentials of wages and quality of jobs in the labor market are expanding continuously is not desirable at all. Secondly, the problems of youth unemployment cannot be solved easily only by providing correct and relevant informations about the labor markets simply.

  • As a part of studies on acute effects of high dose irradiation the present report was carried out to evaluate the changes of the leukocyte life span in the Newzealand white male rabbits by a single whole body exposure to gamma rays from $^{60}Co$ teleirradiation unit. The exposure was done in dose levels of 100, 300, 550 and 1,000 rad to each experimental group of 10 rabbits. The life span and apparent half survival time of leukocytes, and the elution rate of leukocytes in the circulating blood were measured by McMillan method using $^{51}Cr$. 1. As a critical indicator of radiation hazards of the Newzealand male rabbits, the LD 50/30 and LD 100/30 after whole body exposure was estimated as 550 and 1,000 rads respectively. 2. The life span of leukocyte in the circulation after irradiation was slightly shortened in the 100 rad irradiated group, as compared with the unirradiated control group, but markedly shortened in the 300, 550 and 1,000 rads irradiated group. 3. After irradiation, decrease of leukocyte half survival time in the circulation showed the same pattern as that of leukocytes life span. 4. As the irradiation doses increased, the elution rate of $^{51}Cr$ loss from $^{51}Cr$ tagged leukocytes in the circulation were markedly increased gradually. 5. The life span shortening of leukocytes in the circulation after irradiation seems to occure by two processes of senescence acceleration and early destruction.

  • The powered purse seine fishery is an important fishery accounting for 19.4% of adjacent water fishery production in Korea, and the commercial fishing is associated with high rate of fatal and non-fatal occupational injury. The hazard analysis for the fishermen's safety of offshore large powered purse seiner was conducted to serve as a basic data for improving the healthy and safe working environment of fishermen using fishermen's occupational accidents of the national federation of fisheries cooperatives (NFFC) in 2013 (n=583). As a result, the occupational accident occurrence rate of this fishery was 182.6‰ in all industries 30.9 times the rate of that. In addition, death and missing rate was found to have a very serious level management to 25.1‰ in all industries of death of 17.5 times. The accident occurred in 72.3 to 85.8% was happened at sea. The others, slipping and struck by object etc occurred more frequently in order in the frequency of accident occurrence pattern. However, the occurrence rate of death and missing did not match the frequency of accident pattern. In other words, slipping occurred frequently higher while death and missing risk was not high. And the contact with fishing gear and fall in the waters was low while death and missing risk was high. The results are expected to contribute for identification and assessment of safety hazard occurred in offshore large powered purse seiners.
