This study aimed to investigate the concentration of vitamin C in Momordica charantia (MC) by cultivar, harvest time, and maturity. The methods for determining vitamin C levels were validated by measuring their linearity, specificity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy using HPLC. Results showed high linearity in the calibration curve, with a coefficient of correlation ($R^2$) of 0.9994. The LOD and LOQ values for vitamin C were 0.05 and $0.16{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for intra- and inter-day precision of vitamin C measurements were 2.34 and 1.34%, respectively. Depending on cultivar, the concentration of vitamin C in MC varied from 20.75~107.31 mg/100 g, fresh weight, with an average level $68.85{\pm}25.57mg/100g$, FW. When MC was analyzed by harvest time, the 20150612 MC showed the highest amount of vitamin C ($113.20{\pm}1.89mg/100g$, FW). On the other hand, the highest vitamin C content by maturity was $48.59{\pm}0.87mg/100g$, FW (15 day old MC). This information on the comparative vitamin C levels of MC might be useful to food scientists and should be explored for functional food development.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality characteristics of ripe fruit based on harvest date and to examine the ripening phase of 'Seolhyang' strawberry suitable for room temperature, cold-chain, and low temperature distribution. The strawberries were harvested six times between December 20 to May 9. The appropriate maturity of strawberries is characterized by the firmness of approximately 2.9-3.0 N, and SSC remained above 8.6 °Brix until March and declined after April. The quality index values that determine the maturity stage of strawberries should be red color, Hunter a value ranging from 32 to 37, and hue angle of 36-45℃. For the after-ripening experiment, the progression rate of the ripening stage determined based on strawberry color was 10%/day at room temperature, 5%/day at 10-12℃, and 3%/day at 5℃. Thus, strawberries should be harvested at 80% coloring stage for distribution at room temperature and at least 90% for low temperature storage to maintain the merchantability. Besides, strawberries harvested at 70% coloring stage at room temperature and strawberries harvested below 80% coloring stage at low temperatures below 5℃ had lost commercial value before reaching 100% coloring stage.

A determination of proper maturity is a significant factor for a good quality and storage. This study is aimed at a determination of optimum harvest date related to a decisive measuring of maturity in Spur Golden Delicious. In this case, respiratory status and other characteristics are taken as a indicator for maturing determination. The results are as follows. 1. Respiratory rate has been decreased through a fruit development and come to its minimized point on Sep. 25. at last. On the contrary its tendency has been increased after Sep. 25. It is also estimated that the former is pre-climacteric, the latter climacteric rise based on dimacteric minimum Sep. 25. 2. A flesh hardness has maintained comparably high value until Sep. 18. But in the point of climacteric minimum, Sep. 25, curve of flesh firmness has rapidly been broken down, and after Sep. 25, tendency has slowly decreased at the sucessive date. 3. Pectin content, optimum acidity are remarkably decreased after Sep. 25, Oct. 2 respectively. 4. When water soluble sugar content shows to be swung from climacteric minimum, any resonable tendency are not found. 5. In this experiment, optimum harvest time is found by Oct. 2, in time of 145 days after flowering.

This experiment was carried out to increase the utility and productivity of forage crop as to investigate the rotation system which is suitable to cultivat at the alpine area. The treatments were 9 crops combinations including corn - rye treatment. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Rye can be cultivated satisfactorily at cold and high altitude areas such as Tae Kwan Ryong. 2. Corn, to be raised as a second crop after rye in the same year, does not have to be early (short) or medium maturity varieties in the high alpine area. 3. It is possible to increase the harvest by 30% in terms of dry melter or green crop yield through raising two crops, rye and corn, in the same year. 4. Maturity period or growth conditions of corn. as a tropical crop and the best forage crop, can improve or worsen acording to the external circumstance, such as low temperature resulting from high atitude.
The influences of temperature, harvest time, sowing time, seeding media, moisture content of media and light on the seed germination of Lycoris are as follows, Both L. koreana and L. aurea had over 90% seed setting, and seed maturity came in September or early October. It took six months to have over 60% seed germination. The optimum germination temperature was $25^{\circ}C$, and the alternating treatment was effective at $20{\rightleftarrows}25^{\circ}C$. The optimum harvest-time was around Sep. 20, and the optimum seed-time was immediately after havest. The optimum seeding media was sand loam, and the optimum moisture content was PF 1. 9/400ml seeding media. The dark condition was more effective for the seed germination than the light condition.

The degree of maturity of rice greatly affects the quality of the rice, including factors such as the integrity of grains, color, and the nutritive components. Green Rice$^{(R)}$ is rice (Oryza sativa L.) that has been harvested earlier than brown rice and appears green in color. To determine suitable harvesting time of the Jinbu variety of Green Rice$^{(R)}$ in Gyeonggido, rice samples harvested on 23, 26 and 42 days after heading (DAH) were compared on their yield, color intensity, and proximate compositions. The maximum paddy yield of Green Rice$^{(R)}$ was 61.4% at 23 DAH, which decreased to 45.4%, 5.5% at 26 and 42 DAH, respectively. Greenness was darker at 23 DAH ($-0.27{\pm}0.03$), and significantly weaker (p<0.05) at 26 DAH ($0.07{\pm}0.01$) and at 42 DAH ($5.25{\pm}0.08$). All proximate compositions, except carbohydrate, including moisture, crude fat, protein, ash and total minerals were higher in the earlier-harvested Green rice$^{(R)}$ than in brown rice, without variations among the 23 and 26 DAH Green rice$^{(R)}$. Overall, the optimum harvest time of Jinbu Green Rice$^{(R)}$ at Gyeonggido would be 23 DAH. We suggest that timely harvesting could be a potent determinant of the quality of Green Rice$^{(R)}$.

Rice ratooning is the cultural practices to produce easily second rice from the stubble left behind after the main-crop harvest. The main advantage of rice ratooning is that in areas where rice is the main crop, double crop of rice can be grown for additional returns. Three early ripened rice cultivars were tested for estimation their milled rice quality and starch characteristics from main and ratoon rice. The main crop was harvested at mass maturity, after which the tillers were mowed to stubbles of about 10 cm tall. And then it left without any further input until the ratooned plant was ready for harvest. Highly significant variations were detected in the milled rice quality between main and ratoon rice. Protein and amylose contents of ratoon rice were more increased than those of main rice. The Toyo value (gloss) of cooked rice of ratoon crop was measured also higher than that of main crop. It resulted from higher air temperature during grain ripening compared with that of ratoon crop. The mean temperature during ripened period of ratoon rice was favorable for optimal maturation for early ripened rice cultivars. Normalized chromatograms of branch chain length distribution of amylopectin are demonstrated a distinct difference between main and ratoon rice flour. Ratoon rice had higher amount of short chains than that of main crop rice starches. Microscopic examination of rice flours with scanning electron microscopy shows starch granule shapes affected by the cropping types, main and ratoon rice. It showed significant differences among rice starch granule shapes and in granule size between main and ratoon rice. Starch of ratoon rice had more neat and smaller granules than that of main rice.
The experiment was conducted to determine the effects of cutting interval and cutting height on the yield and nutrient composition of hedge lucerne (Desmanthus virgatus) when grown on a sandy soil in the Northeast of Thailand. The cutting intervals compared were 30, 40 and 50 days between harvests and the cutting heights 30, 40 and 50 cm above ground level. The experiment was a $3{\times}3$ factorial layout in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications-giving a total of 36 plots each $3{\times}3m^2$. Harvested plant material was weighed, dried and the ground subsamples taken for analyses of crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), ash, ether extract (EE) and nitrogen-free extract (NFE). At the last harvest the hedge lucerne samples were separated to determine leaf to stem ratios and then analyzed for nutrient composition in the leaf and stem. Results showed that increasing the cutting interval (i.e. advancing age of maturity) increased dry matter and nutrient yields significantly. In terms of nutrient content, it also increased the crude fiber, ash, ether extract and nitrogen free extract percent in the plant. However, crude protein percent was markedly decreased as the cutting interval increased. Increasing cutting height had no effect on dry matter yield and yields of nutrients, but in terms of nutrient content, it increased crude protein and ash content, but decreased crude fiber content. The percent EE and NFE in the plant was unaffected by cutting height. From the results presented it is clear that cutting a stand of hedge lucerne every 40 to 50 days will achieve greater dry matter and nutrient yields than cutting more frequently, at 30 days. The cutting height at harvest, whether 30, 40 or 50 cm above ground level had no effect on dry matter or nutrient yields of hedge Lucerne. Hedge lucerne therefore offers the Thai poultry farmer a useful alternative protein supplement for poultry diets rather than relying on the more expensive soybean meal. As it can be readily and successfully grown on a range of soil types and climates throughout Thailand, hedge lucerne also offers the Thai farmer a valuable additional source of income.

This study was conducted to evaluate the nutritive value and the quality of ensiled kenaf after fermentation with three cultivars at three different times of harvesting. Experimental plot were allocated with three harvest date (Early;8/3, medium;8/15 and late;8/28) and three cultivars (Tainung-a, Everglade, Whitten). The DM (dry matter) yield increased with maturity in all three cultivars, especially in Whitten which showed the highest yield at each harvest time. The DM content in Whitten at late harvesting time was higher than other treatments (231 g $kg^{-1}$ DM). The CP (crude protein) contents of the kenaf silage of all three cultivars ranged from 151 to 164 g $kg^{-1}$. Highest content of NDF (neutral detergent fiber) was observed in Everglade at medium harvesting date, but the ADF (acid detergent fiber) content was highest in Everglade at early harvesting date (p<0.05). All treatments produced a pH less than 4.0, which is sufficient for stable storage. The pH of Tainung-a was higher than other cultivars at all harvesting times (p<0.05). Whitten showed the higher content of lactic acid (25.8 g $kg^{-1}$ DM) showed at early harvesting date than other cultivars (p<0.05), while the acetic acid content (21.1 g $kg^{-1}$ DM) was higher in Tainung-a at medium harvesting date (p<0.05). No significant difference was observed in ammonia-Nand butyric acid concentrations among all treatments. These results indicate that a kenaf silage could be used as fodder for ruminants. Especially, the Whitten harvested at late growing stage showed promise as a forage silage crop under Koran environments.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Lentinus edodes which were harvested at different times of maturity on blood glucose and lipid levels in diabetic mice. The diabetic KK mice were fed diets supplemented with Lentinus edodes harvested early (LE) or late (LL) for eight weeks, and control (CO) mice were fed regular diet without Lentinus edodes. Diet intake, body weight, organ weight, blood glucose and serum lipid levels were measured. The mice which were fed diets supplemented with LE and LL showed significantly lower body weights compared to the CO group. There were no significant differences in the diet intake and the weights of different organs including liver, heart, kidneys, and epididymal fat pad among three different groups. Furthermore, the concentrations of serum triglycerides and total cholesterol were significantly lower in LE and LL groups compared to the CO group. These results clearly demonstrate that Lentinus edodes, regardless of their harvested period reduced body weight and serum lipid without affecting blood glucose level in diabetic mice.
