Purpose: The objective of the study was to identify the effects of the meridian massage therapy on hand edema and hand functions in patients with hemiplegia. Method: The experiment was conducted in the Oriental Medical ward of "K" hospital during the period of 2000. 12. 15 - 2001. 03. 15. Fifty five subjects with hemiplegia following a stroke participated in the study. Volumetric size of the hand and the circumference of the index finger of each patient was measured and functional points were recorded for pre and post experiment. Result: 1. Apparent decrease in volumetric size of the hand and the circumference of the index finger(p=.022. p=.021), and higher functional points(p=.003) in the experimental group in comparison to the control group. 2.Volume of hands & their functions appeared to be irrelevant(r=-.195, p=.154). 3. Circumference of the index finger & their functions also turned out to be irrelevant (r=-.110, p=.424). Conclusion: Meridian massage is an effective nursing interventional therapy to relieve hand edema and improve hand functions in hemiplegic patients and has great potential for use in a wide range of medical fields as an efficient supplementary treatment for stroke rehabilitation.
This study aimed to classify the hand types of adult males aged 20 to 69 years using three-dimensional measurement data from the 2020 8th Korean Anthropometric Survey, the latest measurement data from the National Institute of Standards and Technology Size Korea, and explore the characteristics of each type. Through this, I aimed to draw implications for the development of work gloves. The factors that make up an adult male's hand were categorized into hand and finger thickness factors, palm length factors, and finger length factors. Adult male hands were categorized into four types: small, thin hands and long fingers; thick, long fingers; medium, short hands and fingers; and large, thin, short fingers. The analysis showed that the younger the age, the more slender and long the hands and fingers, and as age increased, hands and fingers became shorter and thicker. Implications for the development of work gloves included the need for size segmentation based on the age of the work glove user, changes in the way glove dimensions are set based on hand length and hand circumference, and the need to segment gloves by the type of work. Hand typing in future research should be done according to occupational groups, and glove patterns should be developed for each type of work based on the results of this study.
Nano-sized Ni-ferrite powder was fabricated by spray pyrolysis process using the waste solution resulting from shadow mask processing. The average particle size of the powder was below 100 nm. The effects of the concentration of raw material solution, the nozzle tip size and air pressure on the properties of powder were studied. As the concentration increased, the average particle size of the powder gradually increased and its specific surface area decreased, but size distribution was much wider and the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase greatly increased as the concentration increasing. As the nozzle tip size increased from 1 mm to 2 mm, the average particle size of the powder decreased. In case of 3 mm nozzle tip size, the average particle size of the powder increased slightly. On the other hand, in case of 5 mm nozzle tip size, average particle size of the powder decreased. Size distribution of the powder was unhomogeneous, and the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase decreased as the nozzle tip size increasing. As air pressure increased up to 1 kg/$cm^2$, the average particle size of the powder decreased slightly, on the other hand, the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase was almost constant. In case of 3kg/$cm^2$ air pressure, average particle size of the powder and the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase remarkably decreased, but size distribution was narrow.
A coupled damage-viscoplasticity model is presented for the analysis of localisation and size effects. On one hand, viscosity helps to avoid mesh sensitivity because of the introduction of a length scale in the model and, on the other hand, enables to represent size effects. Size effects were analysed by means of three-point bending tests. Correlation between the fracture energy parameter measured experimentally and the density fracture energy modelling parameter is discussed. It has been shown that the dependence of nominal strength and fracture energy on size is determined by the ligament length in comparison with the width of the fracture process zone.
Both hand-made and machine-made Chinese noodles are popular in Korea. In this study, each type was evaluated in terms of its physical properties to rigorously determine for consumers which one has better qualities. The noodles were instrumentally measured for color, size, moisture content, density, viscoelasticity, and cutting force. The behaviors of the noodles were visually observed during cooking, and sensory evaluations were performed with the cooked noodles. The hand-made raw noodles were less dense, had higher moisture content, and generated more bubbles during cooking than the machine-made noodles. This indicated that the hand-made noodles contained more entrapped air, thereby resulting in the above physical characteristics. The change in noodle size after cooking was greater in the hand-made noodles, indicating that more entrapped air in expansion escaped during cooking and was replaced by water. The cutting force and viscoelasticity of the hand-made noodles were lower, and were controlled by viscous properties, respectively. These results agreed with the fact that the hand-made noodles had higher moisture content and lower density. In the sensory evaluation, the hand-made noodles presented lower hardness, but higher elasticity. It was inferred that the hand-made noodle dough underwent repeated processes of folding and extending, resulting in better developed of the gluten structure. Consequently, the hand-made noodles were determined to be different than the machine-made noodles in terms of instrumental measurements and sensory observations, suggesting that the hand-made noodles had superior textural properties.
Purpose. This study was to investigate the relationship between hand function and characteristics of hand. Methods. Participants were 56 occupational therapy students who studied in M colleges in Gyengsangnam-do, april 20, 2015 from 1 May, and hand circumference and length (vertical, w), the width was measured. A hand grip on the measurement subject was measured by the Grip dynamometer and Pinch gauge. Results. The results was hand length, width, circumference long, broad, thick, and hand strength was a greater correlation emerged. Grip strength was showed a significant correlation to the size and grip strength was also correlated. Conclusion. This study was correlation of length of the hand, a length wide and strength of the finger circumference.
The aim of this study is provide fundamental data on the glove size and pattern-making. The study was conducted targeting 60 men and 271 women whose age were within the limits 18-35 in Seoul and the neighboring districts. A total of 90 features in the right hand wew used for the anthropometric measurement and analysis using anthropometry and photometry. The result show that there was a difference between men and women' hand. And the result of correlation analysis between hand factors, length factor related to length and depth factors, breadth factor related to breadth and circumference factors. The sailing glove size in Korea was not suitable to Index finger circumference at 1st Phalanx and Middle finger length.

Palmar soft tissue defects are best reconstructed using a replacement flap of proper size with adequate soft tissue stability for mechanical resistance as well as with protective sensation. Reconstructive approaches are dictated by injury mechanism, defect size and location, and the status of the wound bed and tendino-skeletal structure. While uninjured portions of the hand can be used as a source for local flaps, the use of free flaps allows for maximal access for selection of the most ideal replacement tissue for the defect to be restored as close to the initial state as possible. Here, we review the garden variety of free flaps used in reconstruction of palmar soft tissue defects.
The aim of this study is to understand problems with both fit and sizing system of gloves by analyzing the glove production industries with an emphasis on the sizing system, production measurement system, and general marking situation. Also, to suggest the basic raw materials for improving sizing system for gloves, actual glove control sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study Fifteen domestic production companies were participated in this study-Domestic glove production companies established their own sizing system by copying inter-national brand's glove sizing system or by their experience. The Korean Standard of gloves and the 1997 Korean Standard Anthropometrics Measurement for producing glove patterns are not considered because of its discordance with the reality of the required measurements. Domestic glove production companies used different size designation and labeling system. Size measurement unit also showed difference among the glove production companies. Some companies used 'cm', some used 'mm', some used 'inch' for the measurement unit. In general, companies produced 5 to 4 sizes in one design of glove and the production was the highest in M and L size. In 9 out of 15 companies preferred control size as hand length and hand circumference. For reference size, most of the companies preferred finger circumference, finger length, palm length, hand breadth, crotch height, and hand thickness. Actual glove sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study. The results indicated that most of the measurements of actual glove sizes were significantly larger than the anthropometric data.
