The aim of this study was to provide size intervals in hand requisite in design of gloves. In this study, a survey was administered to gather information about glove manufacturers' sizing systems. In addition, KS glove standards' size dimensions were analyzed. As well, the ISO hand sizing system was also studied. Based on all the analyses' results, a new glove size intervals were composed. The size comprised the control dimensions of hand length and hand circumference. The size interval was 8mm in hand length and 13mm in hand circumference. The size range was established by making the coverage above 80%. The coverage of the new size interval system for an adult's hand was 86.4% and 13 sizes were suggested. The coverage of the male size system was 86.0% and 10 sizes were suggested. The coverage of the female size system was 87.6% and 8 sizes were suggested. For the unfitted gloves, size ranges based on hand length and hand circumference were developed. For the adults group, S, M, L, and XL were suggested and the coverage of the new size range was 78.8%. For the male group, S, M, and L were suggested and the coverage was 82.3%. For the female group, S, M, and L were also suggested and the coverage was 81.3%.

Most apparel products have national standards for sizing; however, for gloves, national sizing standards have not yet been established. This study aims to analyze children's hand dimensions and propose a size specification for children's gloves that shows children's hand-related size information. Among the 3D measurements of sixth Size Korea Project, the measurement data of 19 dimensions related to the hands of 1,057 boys and girls aged 7-13 years old were analyzed. The distribution and growth trend of hand measurements for boys and girls demonstrated considerable mean differences and distribution trends by gender and age as per hand dimensions, which leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to show these results in the children's glove design. Based on these results, the cross-distribution maps of children's hand length and hand circumference were drafted; furthermore, the distribution relationship with an adult hand size was identified. Based on the distribution of hand sizes, the distribution of adult hand sizes overlapped with children's hand sizes was verified, and children's glove size specifications were presented. The results can be used as useful data such as measures for setting the size range and sizing system for children's gloves.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information requisite in the new sizing system for gloves. KS glove standards' size dimensions, size designation and labeling systems were analyzed. Also, KS glove standards' control sizes were compared to the anthropometric data of 824 Korean adults taken in the previous study. As well, the ISO hand size system was also compared to the anthropometric data of the previous study according to frequency tables of hand length and hand circumference. The size dimensions showed differences among KS standards and there was no size designation and labeling systems existed in KS standards. Among KS glove size systems, protective rubber gloves for radioactive contamination and surgical rubber gloves' size which followed ISO system were accurately indicate the hand size of the person a glove is intended to fit. ISO glove sizing system comprised the control dimensions of hand length and hand circumference. The coverage of ISO size A was 84.8% which was highest among ISO size A. B, C. And in hand circumference 178, 191, 203, 216mm showed the frequencies above 3% and in hand length 167, 175. 183, 191, 199mm showed the frequencies above 3%.
This study aims to investigate the effects of the size of operator's hand and the use of foot on the production quantity and product quality. To find out the facts the survey is conducted by measuring the hand size for the worker who is randomly chosen and by grouping them into the large hand size group and small hand size group on the base of the measuring data. The grouped operators are assigned to their job as usual, and their daily production quantities and qualities are measured. The survey shows that the production quantity of the small hand group are higher than the large hand group, and the number of defects of the small hand group are less than the large hand group.
In the current study, we measured the hands and other representative body items of 223 elementary school girls using Martin Anthropometer and a digital camera so that we would be able to provide information on both size and shape of hands for design of hand-related products. As time goes on, hands get bigger, yet they get thinner at the same time. The data implies that the frame of hands grows, but the skin fat lessens, which could be a determinant factor in the size system of hand-related products. According to the results of a factor analysis on 26 hand items, 5 factors including hand laterality and linearity, fingertip shape, finger breadth, and hand depth, have been extracted. Pearson's correlation showed that most of hand-related factors were strongly associated with other body items. Finger breadth and hand depth, however, were found less related to other body items. The ANOVA test used in testing the difference of hand factors showed, in most items, a difference by ages, but there was no significant differences in fingertip breadth, the third factor, Interestingly, in hand depth, the fifth factor, lower grade girls' hands were thicker than higher grade girls'. This research suggests that the size system of uniformly increasing the size of all hand parts by age groups should be reconsidered and leaves much for improvement.
This study was performed to investigate the hand size growth of Korean adolescents boys. Subjects were between 14 and 19 years (n=352). We collected the right hand size data of 19 measurements from each subject using 3D hand scanner. The total 26 hand measurements were analyzed including seven calculated measurements. Subjects were divided into three age groups (early, middle and late). Their hand size were compared. The results showed that all hand length measurements were significantly difference among age groups. Adolescent boys hands were sharply grown at age 16 years old. The hand dimensions of middle age group were compared with twenties men (n=215). There were significant differences between two groups. The middle age adolescents' hands were shorter and thicker than twenties men. Subjects were also divided by weight and height. Weight and height was closely related to hand size. The heavier and taller subjects had the thicker hand. Their fingers were longer than others. The adolescent boys and twenties men who were taller than the twenties' average height (173.4cm) were compared. Twenties men's hands were longer and thinner than that of adolescent boys. These results imply that the male adolescent hands grow short and thick in the adolescent period. Fingers continuously grow up as a long and thin shape after adolescent period.

Purpose : This study is to examine the effect of electrode size during transcranial direct current stimulation on hand function. Methods : By randomly assigning 26 right hand dominant subjects to two groups (I: carbon rubber electrode / II: disposable circular self-adhesive electrodes) with 13 subjects in each group depending on the electrode size, a positive electrodeof transcranial direct current stimulation was placed on the primary motor area (C4) and a negative electrode was placed on the left primary motor area (C3) and the stimulation was applied for 20 minutes.Hand function assessment before and after transcranial direct current stimulation were measured with JTT (Jebsen-Taylor hand function test). Results : According to hand function assessment by JTT, there were no interactions on both hands, and statistically significant differences according to time appeared in the main effect test. Conclusion : Regardless of the electrode size, it appears that transcranial direct current stimulation on the primary motor area activated hand function affected.

Today, functional gloves must allow the wearer to perform many kinds of delicate work while protecting the hands from hazardous materials. In this study, multiple analyses of 3D hand measurements were performed to provide information on the hand size and shape required for the design of functional gloves for adult men. Size and shape characteristics were identified from 19 different hand measurements, and three factors were collected through factor analysis. The aggregated factor score was used to classify men's hand shapes into three types. These types showed different distribution patterns according to age, indicating a significant distribution difference between hand type and age group. Discriminant analysis extracted nine items that highly contributed to determining hand type. However, since the data provided by Size Korea have some limitations in fully representing hand shape, sampling additional types of hand measurements and using consistent conditions and methods are required for more accurate analysis.
In this study, six grip spans (45mm-65mm) were tested to evaluate the effects of handle grip span and user's hand size on maximum grip strength, individual finger force, and subjective ratings of comfort using a digital dynamometer with individual force sensors. Forty-six males were assigned into three hand size groups according to their hand lengths. Results showed that overall 55mm and 50mm grip spans were the most comfortable sizes and associated with the highest grip strength in the maximum grip force exertions, whereas 65mm grip span was rated as the least comfortable size as well as the lowest grip strength. In the interaction effect of grip span and hand size, small and middle hand sized participants rated the best preference and the least preference grip spans differently with large hand sized participants. With respect to the analysis of individual finger force, the middle finger force was the strongest and the highest contribution to the total finger force, followed by ring, index and little fingers. In addition, it was noted that each finger had a different optimal grip span for exerting maximum force resulting in a bowed contoured shaped handle for two-handle hand tools. Thus, the grip spans for two-handle hand tools might be designed according to the users' hand and finger anthropometrics to maximize performance and subjective perception of comfort.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the three-dimensional hand-related dimensions of elderly women aged 70 to 84 years and to characterize them to develop safety gloves for dementia patients. The 3D data from the 8th Human Size Survey of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Size Korea, were analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program. The straight thumb length was longer in elderly women aged 70-74 than in those aged 80-84. To analyze the hand type of elderly women, four factors were categorized: hand and finger horizontal factor, hand vertical factor, finger digit V thickness factor, and finger length factor. Elderly women's hand types were categorized as 'long hands and thin fingers', 'thick hands with long fingers', and 'short hands and thick little fingers'. Elderly women aged 70-74 years and 80-84 years were analyzed as having the most 'long hands and thin fingers' type, while older women aged 75-79 years were analyzed as having the most 'thick hands and long fingers' type. It is known that the fingers get thicker and the size of hands increase as age advances, but by the age 80, there is a change in the size of hands again. In future research, it would be worth expanding to other age groups to explore differences between age groups and to develop safety gloves for real-world dementia patients based on the hand types analyzed.
