  • In this paper, we propose a novel shoot-through protection circuit and pulse generator for half-bridge driver IC. We designed a robust half-bridge driver IC over a variation of processes and power supplies. The proposed circuit is composed a delay circuit using a beta-multiplier reference. The proposed circuit has a lower variation rate of dead time and pulse-width over variation of processes and supply voltages than the conventional circuit. Especially, the proposed circuit has more excellent pulse-width matching of set and reset signals than the conventional circuit. Also, the proposed pulse generator is prevented from fault operations using a logic gate. Dead time and pulse-width of the proposed circuit are typical 250 ns, respectively. The variation ratio is 68%(170 ns) of maximum over variation of processes and supply voltages. The proposed circuit is designed using $1\;{\mu}m$ 650 V BCD (Bipolar, CMOS, DMOS) process parameter, and the simulations are carried out using Spectre simulator of Cadence corporation.

  • In this paper, we propose a current-driven synchronous rectifier driver circuit for LLC resonant half-bridge converters. The proposed driver circuit detects a relatively low current in the primary side of the transformer although a large current is flowing in the secondary side. Due to this feature, the driver circuit has a simple circuit structure and stabilizes the switching operation with a logic-level switching voltages for the synchronous rectifier. The operation and performance of the proposed driver circuit are confirmed with a prototype of 1kW class LLC resonant half-bridge converter. The experimental results proved that the proposed synchronous rectifier driver method improves the power conversion efficiency by around 1% and reduces the internal power loss by 17W.

  • The purpose of this paper is to obtain the improved reliability and optimal control of the half-bridge inverter for induction heating system. Parasitic inductance components within the inverter circuit for induction heating including the loss-less turn-off snubber capacitor considerably affect stable operation and noise level of the system. This paper analyzes the effect of the inductance in detail and presents a new snubber configuration suitable for the half-bridge inverter to effectively reduce it. In the half-bridge inverter for induction heating the capacity of the loss-less snubber capacitor determines the switching losses because the zero voltage turn-on switching is used. However, the increase of the capacitor is limited by the system specifications, so that it is not easy work to reduce the switching loss. To effectively overcome the limitation, this paper introduces an active auxiliary resonant circuit suitable for the half-bridge inverter circuit, which operates actively according to the variation of load condition. It is also one of the most important study issues for the half-bridge inverter driven induction heater that the development of optimal control scheme considering varied load condition should be achieved. The control strategy ensures a very stable operation of overall inverter system and zero voltage turn-on switching irrespective of sensitive load parameter variations, in particular, even under the non-magnetic materials.

  • In this study, we propose a small high voltage power supply which use a half-bridge ZCS resonant and Cockroft-Walton on circuit, for ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). This power supply transfers energy from ZCS resonant inverter to step-up transformer and the transformer secondary is applied to the Cockroft-Walton circuit for generating high voltage as discharging source of electrodes. It is highly efficient because its amount of switching losses are reduced by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up transformer secondary combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. From these results, the best operational condition is obtained at the switching frequency of 9 kHz and the duty ratio of 50 % in this ESP.

  • This paper presents the design of 1 kW prototype high frequency link boost half bridge inverter-fed DC-DC power converters with bridge voltage-doublers suitable for small scale PEM fuel cell systems and associated control schemes. The operation principle of this converter is described using fuel cell modeling and some operating waveforms. The switching mode equivalent circuits are based on simulation results and a detailed circuit operation analysis at soft-switching conditions.

  • This paper deals with a design of a bootstrap power supply using snubber energy regeneration, which is used to power a high-side gate driver of a half-bridge circuit. In the proposed circuit, the energy stored in the low-side snubber capacitor is transferred to the high-side bootstrap capacitor without any magnetic components. Thus, the power dissipation in the RCD snubber can be effectively reduced. The operation principle and design method of the proposed circuit are presented. The experimental results are also provided to show the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • The electric ballast for ceramic metal halide lamp needs a protection circuit to prevent from over voltage and over current in the case that the lamp or the electric ballast are in faults. In this paper, cost-effective and high performance protection circuit is proposed for the electric ballast. The proposed protection circuit is adapted to the electric ballast with $LC_SC_P$ resonance type half bridge inverter. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed circuit can protect effectively under open and short fault conditions.

  • In this paper, we have developed a ZVS half-bridge converter with a clamping circuit for the DC power source of PDP circuit. The clamping circuit in the developed converter reduces the oscillating current of the switch by resonant inductor and parasitic parameters in output rectifier diodes. Finally, comparing the experimental results of the developed converter to the conventional ZVS half-bridge converter, it is clarified that the developed converter is more efficient and lower noise than the conventional one.

  • ZVS Half-Bridge converter is proposed. This converter is operating in fixed switching frequency to regulate output voltage. The ZVS is maintained by Partial resonance during the OFF interval of both switches. Using self-driven synchronous rectifier, this circuit minimizes the Power loss in the rectification circuit. 50[W] ZVS Half-Bridge converter is simulated and built. Two results has been compared.
