Effects of Apricot Kernel Oil on the Improvement Hair Texture (살구씨 오일에 의한 화학적 손상모발의 개선 효과)

  • This study aimed to understand the effects of apricot kernel oil on the improvement of hair texture by producing a hair texture improvement agent added with apricot kernel oil and then applying it to damaged hair. In the test method and measurement, the agent was produced by putting different contents of apricot kernel oil like 0 g, 1 g 2 g, and 3 g. After applying the produced agent to bleached sample hair, it was heat treated and then left as it was. The comparative analysis was conducted by measuring each sample before and after application. To understand its effects on the improvement of hair texture, the tensile strength, absorbance with the use of methylene blue, and gloss were measured. In the results of this study, the tensile strength was increased in every sample except for healthy hair after application. In the results of analyzing the absorbance with the use of methylene blue, it was decreased in samples like 7L(1), 7L(2), 7L(3), and 9L(3) after application. In the results of measuring the gloss, it was increased in the samples like 7L(1), 7L(2), 7L(3), and 9L(3). Such changes in the tensile strength, absorbance, and gloss showed the effects of apricot kernel oil on the texture improvement of damaged hair. In the future, it would be necessary to have researches on various methods of measurement and treatment.

A Study on the Convergence Marketing of Pursuing Value and Beauty Service in Accordance with Men's Acceptance of Information about Beauty Care (남성들의 외모관리 정보수용도에 따른 추구가치와 뷰티서비스 융합마케팅 연구)

  • With much changes in men's appearance style to pursue, beauty care activities, and pursuing value, it has been required to have researches on it. This study analyzed men's acceptance of information about beauty care and also the characteristics of each pursuing value. An online survey was conducted targeting about 500 male office workers in Seoul. In the results of the study, the pursuit of the practical value of five beauty care activities was the highest while the aesthetic value was very differently shown in accordance with the types of beauty care activities, compared to two other values. Contrary to other styles, especially, the acceptance of the skin care style was influenced by the sociocultural value, practical value, and aesthetic value. Especially, the passivity of the aesthetic value and the emphasis on the practical and sociocultural values were shown. The hair care was influenced by the practical value while the plastic surgery was influenced by the aesthetic value. In the care style area, the acceptance of skin care was only influenced by the pursuit of complex values. Regarding the marketing of each care style, the large-scale marketing campaign would be effective for the hair care while it would be necessary to seek for more aesthetic campaigns for the plastic surgery business.

Comparison of exposure levels to occupational factors for beauty workers (미용업 근로자의 직무관련 요인 노출 수준 비교 - 감정노동, 직무 및 사회심리적 스트레스, 피로도를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the exposure levels to emotional labor, occupational and socio-psychological stress, and fatigue for workers engaged in the fields of beauty business (make-up, skin, nail, and hair). For this purpose, a survey was carried out and a statistical analysis was performed for 813 persons As a result, emotional labor was found to be linked with 3 factors of emotional control, emotional dissonance, and positive emotional expression. The exposure level of emotional control was found to be high in the area of hair care and that of positive emotional expression was high in the area of nail care. Based on evaluation of Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS), the stress were found to be highest among workers engaged in the field of make-up and lowest among those in the field of nail. The exposure level of psychosocial stress was found to be the highest in the area of make-up and the lowest in the area of nail care. The exposure level of fatigue was found to be the highest in the area of make-up and the lowest in the area of nail care, showing a difference in the exposure level of stress by area of beauty business. The study confirmed that there is a difference in the exposure level related to emotional labor, job stress, psychosocial stress, and fatigue by area of beauty business.

A Study on the degree of satisfaction at Day Care Center's Service among elderly clients (일 주간보호센터 이용노인의 만족도에 관한 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the degree of satisfaction at day care center's services and the degree of relationship between each service and overall satisfaction. The data collection was performed from July 1, 1999 to July 15, 1999. And total 199 elderly clients were interviewed in Koksung-kun. The results of the study is as follows: 1. The percentage of satisfactory response at transport service was 95.2%, food supply 94.3%, bath 93.2%, hair cutting 90.8%, physical therapy 90.2%, medical treatment 89.3%. And oriental medical treatment 82.0%. 2. For question of the degree of satifaction at day care service, the distribution of answer was 75.1% in exellent. 15.5% in good, 3.6% in moderate, 3.6% in poor, 2.1% in most poor. 3. The subjective satisfaction was not significantly different by sex, age, the presence or absence of religious, educational level, the presence or absence of family and economic level. 4. A significant association between the program satisfaction and the subjective satisfaction was observed: odds ratios were 26.9 in food supply, 26.4 in luncheon supply, 17.4 in bath, and 14.5 in hair cutting. The following is suggestion based on results of this study: A service program should be developed to fit conditions of rural elderies by specifically analyzing needs of the elderly.

Appearance Orientation and Appearance Management Behaviors in relation to Body Mass Index and Demographic Variables (신체질량 지수와 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 외모지향성과 외모관리행동)

  • This study examined the differences in appearance orientation and appearance management behavior in groups (classified by the body mass index) as well as explored the differences in each of demographic variables. Data were collected from 513 respondents from the city of Daegu as well as Gyeongbuk province. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Duncan tests. The results showed that 14.3% of the respondents were underweight, 60.0% normal, and 25.7% overweight according to BMI. The appearance orientation of the respondents was revealed to be high. Skin care was the most popular appearance management behavior, followed by make-up, clothing selection, hair care and weight training. Due to appearance orientation by body type, the appearance orientation for the underweight was the highest followed by normal and overweight. There were significant differences in skin care, make-up, clothing selection, hair care among the three groups in appearance management behavior; however, no differences in weight training. Generally, appearance management behavior of the underweight was the highest, followed by the normal and the overweight. In addition, there were significant group differences in appearance orientation and appearance management behavior according to demographic variables. This study contributes basic information to the field of appearance management behavior research and beauty industry marketing strategy through a better understanding of the relationships of BMI, appearance orientation, and appearance management behavior.

Differences of Appearance Management Behaviors among Clothing Consumption Value (의복소비가치에 따른 집단별 외모관리행동의 차이)

  • We intend an empirical assessment of examining the differences in the appearance management behaviors and demographic variables among groups classified by the clothing consumption values. The questionnaires are administered to 493 female and male adults above 20 years old in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Daegu and Kyungpook regions. For analysis of data from 478 respondents, descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ANOVA, Duncan test and ${\chi}^2$ test were applied. We show the following results. First, Factor analyses were employed for the clothing consumption values and appearance management behaviors. Six factors were for clothing consumption values: Individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing consumption value. Four factors were for appearance management behaviors: weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. According to clothing consumption values, four groups were classified: the passive, functional, social, and active group. We did cluster analysis to the appearance management behaviors of weight training, skin care, hair care, make-up and clothing selection. Second, the social and active groups were more interested in individuality, appearance attractive, social, functional, conditional and fashion clothing value. And they were also more involved in appearance management behaviors. Third, among the demographic variables, the single and female in 20s and 30s with higher level of education belonged to the active group. In this contribution, we find significant differences in the appearance management behavior and demographic variables classified by the clothing consumption values.

The Changing Aspect of Appearances in Male Fashion Magazines (남성패션잡지에 나타난 외모의 변화양상)

  • This study aims on observing the social recognition and its aspects for men taking care of their outer appearances at current point where men are rapidly rising as the main consumer in the beauty industry while their interest for outer appearances are increasing. Therefore, we observed the overall trend and changes in social recognition for male looks by analyzing the contents of articles in fashion magazines that play the critical role of spreading the trend while suggesting and delivering the diverse trend changes to the public to correspond to the individual and concrete demands of certain class segmented into gender, age, hobby, and more. As a result, articles related to outer appearances were divided into fashion, cosmetic and skin, hair and scalp, body figure care, cosmetic surgery, and others, and among them, fashion category took up the highest ratio. Also, articles related to outer appearances increased even more according to the change in time, where articles related to fashion and hair increased while articles of other categories decreased.

Appearance Management Experiences of Breast Cancer Patients -A Grounded Theory Approach- (유방암 환자의 외모 관리 경험에 대한 근거이론적 접근)

  • This study explored the appearance management experiences of breast cancer patients undergoing mastectomy. For data collection, one-on-one interviews were held with 18 Korean females diagnosed with breast cancer from the first stage to the third stage from 2008 to 2015. The data was analyzed through a three-step analysis of grounded theory. QSR NVivo 11.0 for Mac was applied in order to avoid biased results according to the subjective viewpoint of researchers. From open coding results, six paradigms and 15 categories were drawn. The results of axial coding showed that the psychological changes category was the central phenomenon. Additionally, three categories (skin changes, scalp/hair changes, and general reactions) were found to be causal conditions, and five paradigms (clothing behavior, skin care behavior, makeup behavior, scalp/hair-care behavior, and shopping behavior) were found to be action/interaction strategies. Last, selective coding integrated fragmented qualitative data through open coding and axial coding in order to derive explanatory narratives. A comprehensive examination of the appearance management behaviors of breast cancer patients suffering from extreme stress due to physical/psychological changes enables this study to provide a foundation for related studies to be activated in the clothing and textiles discipline.

Study on the Relationship of Appearance Instrumentality and Appearance-related Variables of College Students (대학생의 외모유용성과 외모 관련 변인들과의 관련성 연구)

  • This study examines on the relationship of appearance instrumentality and appearance-related variables (appearance concern, appearance management behavior) of college students. Questionnaires were administered to 313 college students living in Daegu. The SPSS 20.0 package was utilized for data analysis which included frequency analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, cluster analysis, cross tabulation analysis and t-test. Three factors of appearance instrumentality(love relationship, social achievement, interpersonal relationship), two groups of appearance concern(high, low) and five factors of appearance management behavior(skin care/cosmetics usage behavior, body management behavior, plastic surgery behavior, hair management behavior, fashion management behavior) were utilized for the problem analysis of the study. The results of this study were: First, there was no significant differences in the appearance concern group according to appearance instrumentality. Second, appearance instrumentality had a significant differences on appearance management behavior. Social achievement showed a significant differences in plastic surgery behavior. And love relationship showed a significant differences on plastic surgery behavior and fashion management behavior. Third, the appearance concern had a significant differences on all of appearance management behavior. High group of appearance concern showed a higher average than low group of appearance concern in fashion management behavior, skin care/cosmetics usage behavior, hair management behavior, plastic surgery behavior, body management behavior.

A Study on Trends in Scalp Condition Based on Use of Customized Shampoo (맞춤형샴푸 사용에 따른 두피상태 변화 추이 연구)

  • Consumer preferences for food are influenced by personal values and personalities. Social, economic, and cultural developments in modern society have influenced consumer lifestyles and brought about multiple changes in consumption patterns. In the beauty market, consumers are now more interested in specialized offerings, and an increasing number of people are opting for customized products in a market structure where mass production has led to mass consumption. Hair products are now manufactured as functional cosmetics designed to maintain and improve scalp health and hair growth by removing waste from the scalp and adding fragrance for cleanliness, breaking away from the concept of general cosmetics. Many studies have focused on personalized products in the cosmetics industry. This study aimed to accurately determine scalp types and further diagnose individual scalp conditions using a scalp diagnostic device. Based on the diagnoses, it recommended and provided personalized shampoos in order to understand how these shampoos improved scalp health. By objectively analyzing and comparing scalp conditions before and after using customized shampoos, the study demonstrated a significant effect on scalp health. The results of this study confirmed the perception and effectiveness of personalized shampoos.
