  • The electro-optical (EO) characteristics for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure on various blending photopolymer surfaces were investigated. Excellent LC alignment and voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics for TN-LCD photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure of normal incidence on the blending Photopolymer (polyimide (PI) + PM4Ch (poly(4-methacryloyloxy chalcone))) surface containing chalcone group can be achieved. The EO performances of the TN-LCD photo-aligned on the blending photopolymer can be improved due to the photosensitivity by long side chain of the photopolymer.

  • This paper suggests the techniques in determining the values of the steady-state equivalent circuit parameters of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction machine using immune algorithm. The parameter estimation procedure is based on the steady state phase current versus slip and input power versus slip characteristics. The proposed estimation algorithm is of a nonlinear kind based on clonal selection in immune algorithm. The machine parameters are obtained as the solution of a minimization of least-squares cost function by immune algorithm. Simulation shows better results than the conventional approaches.

  • In this study, the atmospheric plasma treatment with $He/O_2$ was conducted to modify the surface chemistry of carbon fibers. The effects of plasma treatment parameters on the surface energetics of carbon fibers were experimentally investigated with respect to gas flow ratio, power intensity, and treatment time. Surface characteristics of the carbon fibers were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Zeta-potential, and contact angle measurements. The results indicated that oxygen plasma treatment led to a large amount of reactive functional groups onto the fiber surface, and these groups can form together as physical intermolecular bonding to improve the surface wettability with a hydrophilic polymer matrix.

  • A hearing aid performs the role of fitting in order to provide those with a hearing problem with a better hearing ability in ordinary circumstances. The existing Fitting system in the hearing aid is consisted somewhat complex, and simply performs the role of Fitting without any supervisions of those with a hearing problem. Such is these methods makes it unable to establish an organized supervision, and shows a problem in making high efficiency. In order to solve this problem mentioned as above, the based thesis have connected the Fitting program and the patient-management database program for the easy use by the user.

  • The adsorption kinetics of ${\beta}$-casein on a hydrophobic surface has been studied by means of the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The self assembled monolayer of 1-octadecanethiol on a gold coated quartz crystal was used as a hydrophobic surface for adsorption. The adsorption kinetics was monitored in different solution conditions. Formation of monolayer is observed in most cases. At high concentration of protein, micelle formation which is interrupted by high ionic strength of solution is observed. Casein binding cations such as $Ca^{2+},\;Ba^{2+}\;and\;Al^{3+}$ increase the hydrophobicity of the protein and the multiple layer adsorption occurs. The strong and weak points of the QCM method in the study of protein adsorption are discussed.

  • The Polyporaceae is a chaotic mass of genera having poroid hymenophores in the Aphyllophorales. To classify the Polyporaceae into more natural groups, phylogenetic analyses were performed using nuclear small subunit ribosomal DNA sequences. Thirty-six species from the families of the Polyporaceae, the Hymenochaetaceae, the Ganodermataceae, the Corticiaceae, the Bondarzewiaceae, the Meruliaceae, the Steccherinaceae and the Lentinaceae were phylogenetically compared. By performing maximum parsimony analysis, seven phylogenetically meaningful groups were identified and discussed. The hyphal system, presence or absence of clamps, and the type of rot were found as important characters in defining the groups. Each group was phylogenetically significant enough to be a core member of each family when the Polyporaceae was split into smaller and more natural families.

  • Great strides in organic light emitting device (OLED) technology have resulted in a number of commercial products. To continue this growth into large area displays, for example televisions, an understanding of the mechanisms that drive the OLED device efficiency and lifetime performance is critical. In this work, we consider maximizing the efficiency lifetime product based on phosphorescent OLED ($PHOLED^{TM}$) technology. We report green PHOLEDs with luminous efficiency of 82 cd/A, 5.7 V and 10,000 hours lifetime at 1,000 cd/$m^2$,red PHOLEDs with CIE of (0.67,0.33), 11 cd/A and 35,000 hours lifetime at 500 cd/$m^2$ and recent progress in blue demonstrating efficiencies of 18 cd/A at 200 cd/$m^2$.
