In this paper, the effect of fire conditions according to ISO 834 standard on the behavior of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) reinforced steel beams coated with gypsum-based mortar has been investigated numerically. To study the efficiency of these beams, 3D coupled temperature-displacement finite element analyzes have been conducted. Mechanical and thermal characteristics of three different parts of composite beams, i.e., steel, CFRP plate, and fireproof coating, were considered as a function of temperature. The interaction between steel and CFRP plate has been simulated employing the adhesion model. The effect of temperature, CFRP plate reinforcement, and the fireproof coating thickness on the deformation of the beams have been analyzed. The results showed that within the first 120 min of fire exposure, increasing the thickness of the fireproof coating from 1 mm to 10 mm reduced the maximum temperature of the outer surface of the steel beam from 380℃ to 270℃. This increase in the thickness of the fireproof layer decreased the rate of growth in the temperature of the steel beam by approximately 30%. Besides excellent thermal resistance and gypsum-based mortar, the studied fireproof coating method could provide better fire resistance for steel structures and thus can be applied to building materials.

This paper reports the effect of replacement levels of silica fume on the resistance to magnesium sulfate attack. Mortar specimens incorporating silica fume were exposed to 5% magnesium sulfate solution for 360 days at ambient temperature. The main variable was the replacement levels of silica fume(0, 5, 10 and 15% of cement by mass). The resistance of mortar specimens incorporating silica fume against magnesium sulfate attack was regularly monitored by measuring compressive strength and expansion. In addition, in order to investigate the reactants formed by magnesium sulfate attack, various instrumental analyses such as XRD, SEM and DSC were used. Results demonstrated that the formation of gypsum, thaumasite and brucite led to a significant deterioration due to magnesium sulfate attack in cement matrix incorporating silica fume.
This paper presents the test and evaluation results on the shear strength and stiffness of a light steel stud wall from a lightweight foamed mortar (lightweight hybrid wall). The use of a lightweight foamed mortar was aimed at improving structural performance, thermal performance, and finish. Studiesshowed that it did not affect thermal performance, but it contributed to structural performance and finish when the unit weight was more than 0.8 (Editor's note: Please indicate the unit of measurement.). In this study, 14 specimens-whose parameters included the specific gravity of the lightweight foamed mortar (0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2), the spacing of the stud (450 mm, 600 mm, or 900 mm), finishing materials (such as lightweight foamed mortar, OSB, and gypsum board), and bracing-were manufactured. Three typical, steel house-framing specimens were added to compare the test results with the 14 specimens. The results of in-plane shear tests show that the use of lightweight foamed mortar (1.15~5.38 times stronger, 1.45~13.7 times stiffer) results in ultimate strength and initial stiffness. In addition, it was possible to widen the stud spacing to up to 900 mm without decreasing shear strength. It was very important to prevent the lightweight foamed mortar from shrinking and to secure the adhesion between the steel stud and the lightweight foamed mortar to improve structural performance.
This paper introduces a study carried out to investigate sodium sulfate attack caused by various reactive products. Experiments were performed on mortar and paste specimens made with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) conforming to KS L 5201 Type I. The water-cement ratios were varied from 0.35 to 0.55. It was found from the laboratory study that the water-cement ratio may be a key to control the deterioration of OPC matrix during sodium sulfate attack. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed that ettringite, gypsum and thaumasite were the main products formed by sodium sulfate attack. These findings were well supported by thermal analysis through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and confirmed the long-term understanding that deterioration mechanism by sodium sulfate attack is a complicated process. Most importantly, deterioration due to sodium sulfate attack is characterized as the drastic reduction in compressive strength as well as the expansion (especially in cement matrix with a higher water-cement ratio).

The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of waste refractory powder(WRP) and desulfurization gypsum(FGD) as activators on the flow properties and the strength development of high volume blast furnace slag mortar incorporating illite(BSM) having adsorption and deodorization. To fabricate the BSMs with 60% of W/B, blast furnace slag are incorporated with 45% and 65%, respectively. WRP and FGD are substituted from 5 to 10%. Test results indicate that the flow is decreased with increase of WRP and FGD, while increase of WRP and FGD enhance the compressive strength due to accelerated reaction of blast furnace slag, The use of illite results in a decrease of compressive strength. pH has increasing tendency until 7days, while it has reduction. In this paper, optimal dosages of WRP and FGD are believed to be around 5% each.

In this study, the basic properties of CO2 immobilized desulfurized gypsum (CFBG) and the possibility of being used as a stimulus for slag cement were reviewed, and performance evaluation was conducted through a concrete mixing test. The main components of CFBG were CaO and SO3, and CaO and SO3 increased as the drying temperature increased. The moisture content of undried CFBG was 15.7 %, the drying temperature was 1.7 % and the drying temperature was 0.03 % at 105 ℃. Mortar using CFBG tended to have a lower flow value as the drying temperature increased, and the compressive strength was equivalent to that of the FGB use mixture. As a result of the concrete experiment using CFBG SC, both slump and air volume satisfied the target range after 60 minutes, and the compressive strength tended to increase overall compared to the ternary binder mixture.

In this research the processing method of Desulfurized Plaster is changed to cyclotomy, 0.3mm sieve analysis and 500℃ heat exposure, and by changing the mix rate of the binding agent to 0~20%, it was applied to mortar that used cyclic aggregate and blast furnace slag for testing. The test results showed that the flow decreased in the order of cyclotomy, high heat exposure, and sieve analysis according to the mix rate of FGD, and while the air volume decreased for cyclotomy, it was shown to have almost no effect on sieve analysis and high heat exposure. The setting time accelerated as the mixing rate of FGD increased, and the compression strength increased as the mixing rate of FGD increased and especially showed a high trend with cyclotomy and sieve analysis.

In this research the processing method of Desulfurized Plaster is changed to cyclotomy, 0.3mm sieve analysis and 500℃ heat exposure, and by changing the mix rate of the binding agent to 0~20%, it was applied to mortar that used natural aggregate and blast furnace slag for testing. The test results showed that the sieve analysis and high heat exposure of the flow and air volume increased according to the increase of mixing rate of FGD while the cyclotomy decreased. The setting time accelerated as the mixing rate of FGD increased, and the compression strength increased to its maximum when the mixing rate of FGD was right around 10%, and especially showed a high trend with cyclotomy and sieve analysis.
The main objective of this study is the assessment of the ability of limestone mortars to resist to different chemical attacks. The ability of polypropylene (PP) fibres waste used as reinforcement of these concrete materials to enhance their durability is also studied. Crushed sand 0/2 mm which is a fine limestone residue obtained by the crushing of natural rocks in aggregates industry is used for the fabrication of the mortar. The fibres used, which are obtained from the waste of domestic plastic sweeps' fabrication, have a length of 20 mm and a diameter ranging between 0.38 and 0.51 mm. Two weight fibres contents are used, 0.5 and 1%. The durability tests carried out in this investigation included the water absorption by capillarity, the mass variation, the flexural and the compressive strengths of the mortar specimens immersed for 366 days in 5% sodium chloride, 5% magnesium sulphate and 5% sulphuric acid solutions. A mineralogical analysis by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and a visual inspection are used for a better examination of the quality of tested mortars and for better interpretation of their behaviour in different solutions. The results indicate that the reinforcement of limestone mortar by PP fibres waste is an excellent solution to improve its chemical resistance and durability. Moreover, the presence of PP fibres waste does not affect significantly the water absorption by capillarity of mortar nether its mass variation, when exposed to chloride and sulphate solutions. While in sulphuric acid, the mass loss is higher with the presence of PP fibres waste, especially after an exposure of 180 days. The results reveal that these fibres have a considerable effect of the flexural and the compressive behaviour of mortar especially in acid solution, where a reduction of strength loss is observed. The mineralogical analysis confirms the good behaviour of mortar immersed in sulphate and chloride solutions; and shows that more gypsum is formed in mortar exposed to acid environment causing its rapid degradation. The visual observation reveals that only samples exposed to acid attack during 366 days have showed a surface damage extending over a depth of approximately 300 ㎛.

The purpose of the study was to examine basic property at the time of applying cast ('CS' below) and high fineness fine particle cement ('FC' below) as a stimulant to 20% substitution cement mortar of ground granulated blast-furnace slag ('BS' below) to settle a problem that early strength of BS mortar is lowered. The results were as follows. First of all, as a characteristic of fresh mortar, liquidity was reduced as much as BS substitution rate was increased. When substituting CS for BS 20%, it didn't have a large effect regardless of substitution rate. When substituting FC, it was reduced as much as substitution was increased. In the event of compressive strength, it was reduced as much as BS substitution was increased in early age. In age 28, it was somewhat increased by reflection of potential hydraulicity. With regard to improvement of early compressive/bending strength of BS 20% substitution mortar, when substituting CS, in early age, they were a little increased as much as addition rate was increased. When substituting FC, in early and 28 age, they were largely increased as much as substitution rate was increased. To settle a problem that early strength of BS 20% substitution mortar was lowered, CS substitution has a little effect and FC 25% substitution was similar to plain with only OPC. Therefore, when substituting FC 25%, it is expected that its quality will be improved.
