알파형 반수석고를 혼입한 시멘트 압출 패널의 내화특성 (Fire-Resistance Property of Cement Extruding Panel Mixed with Alpha-Hemihydrate Gypsum)

  • Gypsum is an important building material used to provide fire resistance to constructions by reducing their temperature rises. As the hardened gypsum is exposed to fire, evaporation of both the free water and the chemical bond water is easier than that in the cement extruding panel. The purpose of this study is to investigate the utilizability of alpha-hemihydrate gypsum to prevent spalling failure of cement extruding panel exposed to fire. This paper reports the fire-resistance property of a controled general cement extruding panel(C100), and gypsum-cement extruding panels(C50A50, A100) according to replacement ratio of alpha-hemihydrate gypsum. As a results, it is found that A100 and C50A50 are more effective to prevent the explosive spalling failure under standard fire condition than C100.

  • The effect of salts on the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum at boiling temperature under atmospheric pressure was studied by the solubility measurement method, and the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum from by-product gypsum of phosphoric acid process in the salts solution were investigated. The order of catalytic effect of salt on the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum are as follows: NH4Cl>NaCl>NaNO3. In the salts solution of sodium nitrate, sodium chloride, and ammonium chloride, prismatic ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum was obtained and the crystal form was converted to needle form in complex solution with sulfuric acid. The P2O5 content in gypsum was largely decreased in this atmosphoric solution process.

  • In this study, fire resistance test according to KS F 2257-8: 2015 was carried out to compare fire resistance for wall consisted of gypsum boards with two types of drywall with gypsum boards which is based to lightweight studs. As a result, it was found that the fire resistance of the wall constructed with 12.5 mm of general gypsum board was 16 minutes higher than that of the wall constructed 9.5 mm in accordance with integrity and was 9 minutes higher than that of the wall(9.5 mm) depending on insulation. If the wall with the gypsum board 12.5 mm is constructed, it can be confirmed that the fire resistance is improved by about 43%.

  • In recent years, the world development of alternative construction materials is associated with disposal problems of waste materials as a result of industrial activities. Technologies of refining gypsum to several gypsum modifications ($\alpha$ and $\beta$-hemihydrate) which can be used as construction material in a large scale do actually exist or are under development. This paper provides a technical and economic perspective of the waste gypsum treatment. Especially, several applications particularly of $\alpha$-hemihydrate will be presented, e.g. artificial gypsum aggregate and light-weight masonry units.

  • As a large construction such as highway, dam, reclaimed land etc. increase in number more and more, large amount of fill materials are required. However, it's difficult to obtain it because of environmental problems and economical efficiency. A alternative plan is to utilize a gypsum which is a by-product yielded from chemical plants and verify suitability to use gypsum as fill materials. Therefore, a characteristic of compaction for gypsum is analyzed and construction methods are given regard to this characteristic from construction of dike using gypsum. Based on the results obtained, it is found that moisture of gypsum in compaction should to be more dry side of O.M.C(optimal moisture content) because of sponge phenomenon. When gypsum is used to fill materials, standards of compaction should be decided from laboratory test.

Study on the Retarding Mechanism and Strength Loss of Gypsum from Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Retarder

  • In this article, the influence of a hydrolyzed wheat protein retarder on the hydration process, ion concentration in liquid phase, degree of supersaturation, and crystal morphology of plaster was investigated. Furthermore, the retarding mechanism and the strength loss of gypsum were also studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the use of the hydrolyzed wheat protein retarder for plaster achieved a better retarding effect and lower strength loss. The combination of gypsum plaster with the retarder not only decreased the plaster's early hydration rate and prolonged its setting time efficiently, but also militated against the crystal morphology of dihydrate gypsum. For example, the crystal dimensions changed little, but the proportion of needle-shaped crystals decreased. Combination with calcium ions on the surface of dihydrate gypsum crystal nuclei may form a chemisorbed layer, reduce the surface energy of the crystal nuclei, and inhibit the growth of the crystal nuclei of dihydrate gypsum. Consequently, the hydration process of building gypsum becomes greatly extended and is slowed down significantly.

Study on the Waterproofing Performance of FGD Gypsum Building Products from Inorganic-Organic Composite Additives

  • In this article, poly methyl triethoxy silane was compounded with an inorganic waterproof admixture at a certain ratio to improve the performance of gypsum products; a new type of high-efficiency compound water-proofing additive was also investigated. Furthermore, the waterproof mechanism and the various properties on the hardened gypsum plaster were investigated in detail by XRD and SEM. The results show that the intenerate coefficient of gypsum plaster increased to more than 0.9; the water absorbing rate decreased to less than 10 %. Both the bending strength and the compressive strength of gypsum plaster increased by various degrees. The intenerate coefficient reached a maximum value of 0.73 and the strength of the samples showed almost no change when 5% cement alone was added. In this new type of the high-efficiency compound with waterproof additive, the optimal technological parameters for formulas were obtained to be: 5% cement, 18 % mineral powder, and 0.8% poly methyl triethoxy silane, to compound gypsum plaster. Meanwhile, the production of high performance gypsum as a building material has become possible.

폐석고보드지의 재활용 방안 탐색을 위한 기초연구 (Study on the recycling of gypsum board paper generated from construction wastes)

  • We investigated practical methods of using recycled gypsum board paper in the paper industry. Gypsum board paper is used to produce construction gypsum board, and can be recycled through the recycling process of construction wastes. The experiments were carried out in two ways: One was the substitution of recycled gypsum board papers for KOCC, and the other was the use of recycled gypsum board paper powder. Recycled gypsum board paper was not disintegrated easily, but high temperature and the use of chemicals were able to improve their disintegration. The physical properties of handsheets made of the pulp of recycled gypsum board paper exhibited the same performance level as those made from KOCC except in the parameter of compressive strength. The powder of recycled gypsum board paper was manufactured using a grinder and handsheets were made with the powder and KOCC. The bulk was increased, but the strength properties were decreased by the addition of the powder.

석고가 첨가된 슬래그 기반 알카리활성 모르터의 압축강도 및 건조수축 변형률 (Compressive Strength and Shrinkage Strain of Slag-Based Alkali-Activated Mortar with Gypsum)

  • Twelve mortars were mixed and tested to explore the effect of gypsum on the compressive strength development and shrinkage strain of alkali-activated mortars. Powder typed sodium silicate and ground granulated blast-furnace slag were employed as alkaline activator and source material, respectively, to produce cementless mortar. The main variables investigated were alkali quality coefficient combining the concentration of activator and main compositions in source material, and the adding amount of gypsum ranged between 1 and 5% with respect to the weight of binder. Initial flow, compressive strength development, modulus of rupture, and shrinkage strain behavior of mortar specimens were measured. In addition, the hydration production of alkali-activated pastes with gypsum was traced using X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis combined with scanning electron microscope image. Test results showed that the initial flow of slag-based alkali-activated mortar was little influenced by the adding amount of gypsum. On the other hand, the effect of gypsum on the compressive strength of mortar specimens was dependent on the alkali quality coefficient, indicating that the compressive strength increased with the increase of the adding amount of gypsum until a certain limit, beyond which the strength decreased slowly. Shrinkage strain of mortar tested was little influenced by the adding amount of gypsum because no ettringite as hydration product was generated. However, the adding of gypsum had a beneficial effect on reducing the microcrack in the alkali-activated mortar.

다공성 원료를 사용한 석고보드의 흡습 특성 (Hygroscopic Characteristic of Gypsum Boards Using Porous Materials)

  • Active clays, Diatomite, bentonite and zeolite were used as porous materials for fabricating hygroscopic gypsum boards. Pohang active clay and Cheolwon diatomite showed excellent characteristics of moisture adsorption and desorption. These characteristics were caused by higher surface area and pore volume of porous materials. Moisture adsorption content of gypsum board with 10% active clay(P1) was 62.0 g/m$^2$, and moisture desorption content was 50.2 g/m$^2$. Moisture adsorption content of gypsum board with 10% diatomite(P) was 59.5 g/m$^2$, and moisture desorption content was 49.0 g/m$^2$. Moisture adsorption contents of gypsum boards with porous materials were higher than that moisture desorption contents of gypsum board without porous materials. Correlation coefficient between surface area and moisture adsorption content of gypsum boards was 0.98. Also, correlation coefficient between surface area and moisture desorption content of gypsum boards was 0.97. Moisture adsorption and desorption contents were influenced by surface area and pore volume of the gypsum boards, and surface area had a larger effect on moisture adsorption and desorption.
