The geographical distribution and population density of rodents and chigger mites at six localities of Chollanam-do were investigated from October to December in 1993. Among total 142 field rodents collected by the modified Chemin wooden traps, 131 rodents were Aponemw usrari,us (92.3%) and 11 were Crocidurc losiurc (7.7%). Out of 142 field rodents, 92 were parasitized by chiggers, showing 69.0% of the infestation rate and 74.2 of the chiggor index. Infestation rate and chigger index of A. omfernrius and C. lusiurc were 73.3%, 80.4 and 18.2%, 0.5, respectively. From the trapped field rodents, 10,532 chiggers were collected and identified with 11 species of 4 genera. Leptotrombidium pcLLinun. the vector 3pecies of tsutsugamushi disease, was the dominant species, showing 8,038 chi99ers (76.31%). L. scutellnre was the second dominant species showing 1,359 chiggers (12.9%). The distribution of chigger mites was clearly localized by the species, showing the different dominant species according to localities. The predominant species was 1. scutellare (100%) in Changhung-gun, 1. scutellcre (41.5%) in Posong-gun, 1. pnllidum (88.8%) in Hwasun- gun, 1. pnLlidunl (59.2%) in Koksong-gun, 1. zetum (77.3%) in Hampyong-gun, and 1. pclpcle (63.4%) in Tamyang-gun. Regarding to the geographical distribution of chigger population density, the infestation rate and chigger index was most high in Hwasun-gun as 62.4% and 216.2 respectively, and next high in Koksong-gun as 22.4% and 77.7%, respectively.

In a nationwide survey of the occurrence and density of the migratory locust (Locusta migratoria), high density was continuously observed in the reclaimed areas of Mangun-myeon in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, and Sanye-myeon in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. We have analyzed the nucleotide sequences of NADH dehydrogenase subunit (NAD) 2, NAD4, and NAD5 genes in order to determine the origins of the migratory locusts at two sites. According to the analysis, the migratory locusts in Haenam-gun were closely related with those in Liaoning Province and Heilongjiang Province in the northeast China. In contrast, the migratory locusts in Muan-gun were most similar to those in Japan. Because Korean migratory locusts were not included in the previous global study on the evolution and migration of migratory locusts, we did not know the origin of Korean migratory locusts, earlier. Phylogenetic analyses this study suggested that the migratory locusts from the northeast Chinese population might have migrated and settled in Haenam-gun in Korea. Moreover, another northeast Chinese population might have migrated to Muan-gun in Korea though Sakhalin, Russia and Hokkaido, Japan. However, the possibility that the migratory locusts moved from northeast China might be isolated from each other in Korea, and that the Muan population might migrate to Japan cannot be excluded.
Korean ginseng is the one of the most famous medicinal herbs globally and has long been a representative item of East Asian trade, including across China and Japan. Since Joseon (1392-1910) ginseng trade was entirely controlled by the state, The Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty are a valuable resource that can shed light on the history of the ginseng industry at that time. By studying the subsection "The Veritable Records of King Sejong" (世宗實錄), when ginseng was used even more widely, we assess the purpose and scale of its trade in the 15th century, identify its original listing in the geographical appendix, develop a distribution map, and explore similarities to current ginseng cultivation areas. During the reign of King Sejong (1418-1450), ginseng was sent to China as a tribute 101 times, with a combined weight of 7,060 kilograms, with less than one-third of that amount given to Japan and Okinawa. It was used to cover the travel expenses of foreign envoys and servants, but this can be seen to gradually decrease after the regnal mid-term, primarily due to a decrease in the amount of ginseng being collected. At the time, there were 113 areas of naturally growing ginseng as listed in the records' geographical appendix, including 12 recorded in the 'tributes' category: Yeongdeok-gun, Yeongju, and Cheongsong-gun in Gyeongsangbuk-do; Ulju-gun and Ulsan in Gyeongsangnam-do; Jeongeup, Wanju-gun, and Jangsu-gun in Jeollabuk-do; Hwasun-gun in Jeollanam-do; Goksan-gun and Sinpyeong-gun in Hwanghaebuk-do; Jeongju and Taecheon-gun in Pyeonganbuk-do; and Jaseong-gun and Junggang-gun in Jagang-do. A total of 101 places are recorded in the 'medicinal herbs' category, located throughout the mountains of the eight Joseon provinces, except the islands. In comparison with current ginseng cultivation sites, many of these historical areas are either consistent with or adjacent to contemporary locations. The geographical appendix to "The Veritable Records of King Sejong" was compiled in the early days of the king's reign (1432) when there was a lot of wild ginseng. The appendix is a valuable resource that indicates the possibility of growing ginseng on the Korean Peninsula in the future. The apparently natural habitats in the south, where ginseng is not currently cultivated, could be candidates for the future. Moreover, areas in the north where ginseng has not been grown, except Kaesǒng, could be a good alternative under sustainable inter-Korean exchange should cultivation sites move north due to climate warming.
The electron beam simulation technology is indispensable for the recent electron gun design. The technology is becoming more and more important for deflection yoke (DY) design and investigation of the interference effects between gun and DY. Further, it may become vital even for shadow mask, glass funnel, exposure lens and magnetic shield.

This paper reports the design and experiments for a high drive force of projectile in a coil gun system. Currently, the coil gun has been studied to apply an electromagnetic launcher. A coil gun launches a projectile by the attractive magnetic force of the electromagnetic coil. The drive force of projectile is proportional to the magnetic force generated by the electromagnetic coil. The current affects the life of the coil and the current limit exists. Therefore, the coil gun design, which does not exceed the current limit and the magnetic forces are at the maximum, is required. For this purpose, this study calculated the magnetic flux density and forces of the coil gun system and determined the current limit of the coil using the Onderdonk's equation. Based on the design result, a prototype was manufactured and an experiment was conducted to measure the muzzle velocity of the projectile. The fired projectile was analyzed using a CCD camera, and the muzzle velocity was 21m/s. In addition, a comparison of the experimental value and analysis value using commercial electromagnetic analysis software MAXWELL revealed an error of approximately 9.5%.

This study was conducted to establish the effective and systematic counter plan of conservation by analyzing vegetation on Korean endemic plants and rare and endangered plants, Abeliophyllum distichum, habitats and to present the raw data and direction on counter plan of restoration. The dominant species of tree layers were Platycarya strobilacea(Goesan-gun Chujeom-ri I), Pinus densiflora(Goesan-gun Songdeok-ri II and Yulji-ri III), Robinia pseudo-acacia(Yeongdong-eup Maechon-ri IV), Quercus variabilis(Jincheon-gun Yongjeong-ri V) and Pinus densiflora$.$Quercus variabilis(Buan-gun Junggye-ri Ⅵ). Subtree layers were dominated by Quercus dentata(1st site), Quercus serratu(2nd site), Quercus acutissima(3rd site), Robinia pseudo-acacia(4th site), Zelkova serrata(5th site) and Quercus variabilis(6th site). And the dominant species of shrub layers were Lindera obtusiloba(1st and 5th site), Lespedeza bicolor(2nd site), Stephunandra incisa(3rd site), Quercus aliena(4th site) and Rhododendron schlippen-bachii(6th site). The dominant species of herb layers were surveyed Humulus japonicus$.$Pueraria thunbergiana(1st site), Oplismenus undulatifolius(2nd and 4th site), Carex siderosticta$.$Pueraria thunbergiana(3rd site), Streptolirion cordifolium$.$Humulus japonicus(5th site) and Sasa borealis(6th site). Among the surveyed sites, the Goesan-gun Yulji-ri supremely abounded in species and individuals, and there was surveyed each 21 species and 116 individuals. As well, this site showed the highest H'(1.123) and H'$_{max}$(1.322). Therefore, Goesan-gun Yulji-ri formed diverse vegetation and Yeongdong-eup Maechon-ri and Buan-gun Junggye-ri showed relatively poor vegetation.ation.

U-Pb ages were determined from the granitic rocks from central and northeastern parts of Yeongnam massif. Porphyritic granite of Seosang-myeon, Hamyang-gun near the boundary with Anui-myeon shows age of $225.4{\pm}4.1Ma$. Foliated granodiorites of Anui-myeon, Hamyang-gun and Sinwon-myeon, Geochang-gun are $195.6{\pm}1.8Ma$ and $194.2{\pm}2.4Ma$ old respectively. Granites from Hari-myeon and Buksang-myeon of Geochang-gun show almost identical ages of $198.4{\pm}2.5Ma$ and $194.6{\pm}2.6Ma$ respectively, while foliated granodiorite of Yeongju shows an age ot $171.3{\pm}2.3Ma$. Combining with previously reported results, Triassic granitoids were emplaced almost identically at ca. 225 Ma throughout the areas of Hamyang and Sangju oi Yeongnam massif and Baengnok, Jeomchon and Goesan of Okcheon metamorphic belt. There were significant gap of non-magmatism before the resume of granitic activities over the large areas of Hamyang-gun, Geochang-gun, Gimcheon-si and Seongju-gun from Triassic-Jurassic boundary to early Jurassic, 200-194 Ma. Igneous activity within the Yeongnam massif of this period has not been reported from the Okcheon belt or Gyeonggi massif and may reflect distinct tectonic environment. Around 170 Ma, when Yeongju granodiorite was emplaced, there were active granitic magamtism throughout the Yeongnam massif, Okcheon belt and also Gyeonggi massif.
