  • The influence of Ti/Sr ratio on abnormal grain growth of Nb-doped SrTiO3 was investigated. For specimens which were isothermally sintered at temperatures above 144$0^{\circ}C$, the nucleation and growth rates of abnormal grain growth were decreased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio. But the onset time of abnormal grain growth was increased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio. The cross-section of abnormally grown grains was mostly hexagonal. When the specimens were quenched in air after they reached their setting temperatures at a heating rate of 3$^{\circ}C$/min, the onset temperature of abnormal grain growth was increased with increasing Ti/Sr ratio and the final grain size was independent of Ti/Sr ratio. The cross-section of abnormally grown grains was mostly rectangular.

  • This paper describes the effect of specimen size on fatigue crack growth rate for the offshore structural high-tensile-strength steel BS4360 and machine structural steel SM45C. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of stress ratio aspect ratio specimen width and specimen thickness of the fatigue crack growth behavior. Compact tension specimens with a LT orientation for BS4360 and SM45C steels were used, All testing was done at constant stress intensity factor range controlled fatigue crack growth condition. The investigation demonstrates that the fatigue crack growth rate is increased with increasing stress ratio and specimen thickness and is decreased with increasing specimen width. The fatigue crack growth rate is unaffected by aspect ratio until a/W=0.50 but is increased by increasing spect ratio from a/W=0.55.

  • An improvement in the optical and structural properties of p-GaN was obtained by using antimony (Sb) as a surfactant during p-GaN growth. Two different growth temperatures of p-GaN such as $1030^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ were considered. Keeping the growth conditions for p-GaN constant, Sb was introduced during p-GaN growth while varying the [Sb]/([Ga]+[Mg]) flow ratio. [Sb]/([Ga]+[Mg]) flow ratio will be denoted as SGM ratio for convenience. SGM ratio of 0, 0.015 and 0.03% were considered for high temperature p-GaN growth. SGM ratio of 0, 0.005, 0.01 and 0.02% were considered for low temperature p-GaN growth. The analysis results suggest that using the optimum SGM ratio during p-GaN growth greatly improves the optical and structural properties of the p-GaN.

  • Microcystis aeruginosa causes harmful algal blooms in the Nakdong River of Korea. We studied the effect of different concentrations and ratios of ammonium ($NH_4{^+}$), nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$), and phosphate ($PO{_4}^{3-}$) on growth of this species in BG-11 medium: each nutrient alone, $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio, the N : P ratio with fixed total N (TN), and the N : P ratio with fixed total P (TP). The single nutrient experiments indicated that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rate at $NH_4{^+}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations of $500{\mu}M$, and at a $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration of $5{\mu}M$. The $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio experiments showed that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rate at a ratio of 1 : 1 when TN was $100{\mu}M$ and $250{\mu}M$, and the lowest growth rate at a ratio of 1 : 1 when the TN was $500{\mu}M$. The N : P ratio with fixed TN experiments indicated that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rates at 50 : 1, 20 : 1, and 100 : 1 ratios when the TN was 100, 250, and $500{\mu}M$, respectively. In contrast, the N : P ratio with fixed TP experiments showed that M. aeruginosa had the highest growth rates at 200 : 1 ratio at all tested TP concentrations. In conclusion, our results imply that the $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio and the $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration affect the early stage of growth of M. aeruginosa. In particular, our results suggest that the maximum growth of M. aeruginosa is not simply affected by the $NO_3{^-}:NH_4{^+}$ ratio and the N : P ratio, but is determined by the TN concentration if a certain minimum $PO{_4}^{3-}$ concentration is present.

  • This experiment was carried out to estimate the dry matter accumulation using growth analysis in spring growth of perennial ryegrass varieties grown under space planting conditions, based on the data of previous paper9'. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Growth parameters of leaf area ratio(LAR), specific leaf area(SLA) and leaf weight ratio(LWR) were recognized siginificant differences between varieties. But, specific leaf area(SLA), leaf weight ratio (LWR) and relative tiller appearance rate(RTAR) were recognized significant differences between growth stages. Specific leaf area(SLA) was significant difference for the interaction of variety Xgrowth stage. 2. The relative growth rate of biological yields(BYRGR) indicated significantly positive correlations with relative growth rate of shoot(RGR) and root(RWGR), and net assimilation rate(NAR) as affected by the varieties and growth stages. 3. The relative growth rate of biological yields(BYRGR) indicated significantly positive correlation with nct assimilation rate(NAR) in all varieties. Leaf area ratio(LAR) had significantly positive correlation with specific leaf area(SLA) in all varieties, but shows a significant negative correlation with leaf weight ratio(LWR) of Maprima variety. 4. The relative growth rate of biological yields(BYRGR) indicated significantly positive correlations with the absolute growth rates of yield components.

  • In this work, fatigue tests by axial loading were carried out to investigate the effect of stress ratio on the growth behaviors of surface fatigue crack for SM45C steel and Al 2024-T4 alloy. The growth behaviors of surface crack have been monitored during fatigue process by measuring system attached CCTV and monitor. When the growth rates of surface crack were investigate by the concept of LEFM based on Newman-Raju's .DELTA.K, the dependence of stress ratio appears both SM45C steel and Al 2024-T4 alloy. Therefore, modified stress intensity factor range, .DELTA.K' [=(1+R)/sup n/.DELTA.K] are intorduced to eliminate the dependence of stress ratio. Using .DELTA.K', it is found that the dependence of stress ratio disappears both SM45C steel and Al 2024-T4 alloy.

  • This study was attempted to analyze causal relations among flexibility, growth, and profitability variables, which are the financial indexes of restaurant enterprises. The samples were 24 restaurant enterprises in total, and 102 financial statements between 2002 and 2006 were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, total asset growth rate influenced all profitability variables among growth variables. Also, the net sales growth influenced return on sales and return on assets, and the assets turnover influenced return on assets and return on equity. Among flexibility variables, current ratio and interest coverage ratio to operating profit influenced return on assets, and return on equity was influenced by current ratio and debt-to-equity ratio.

  • This study is concerned with the application of an analytical model of cyclic crack growth that includes the effects of crack closure. The crack closure model is based on the Dugdale model and the strip model, considering the plasticity-induced closure which is caused by residual plastic deformation remaining in the wake of an advancing crack. This study is performed to get the relation between crack growth and crack opening stress with the constant stress ratio, and the relation between stress ratio and crack opening stress with the constant maximum stress under constant-amplitude loading. Under constant-amplitude loading, the crack opening stress is conversed the constant value as a crack grows and is proportion to both the stress ratio and the maximum stress. The crack closure effect, however, is decreased in the positive stress ratio and disappeared at about 0.7. The crack growth analysis using the crack closure model shows that the influence of stress ratio is minimized in the relation between crack growth ratio and effective stress intensity range specially at the negative stress ratio.

  • Ultrafine grained (UFG) low carbon (0.15 wt.% C) steel produced by equal channel angula. pressing (ECAP) was tested for investigating the effect of load ratio on the fatigue crack growth rate. Fatigue crack growth resistance and threshold of UFG steel were lower than that of asreceived coarse grained steel. It was attributed to the less tortuous crack path. The UFG steel exhibited slightly higher crack growth rates and a lower △Kth with an increase of R ratio. The R ratio effect on crack growth rates and △Kth was basically indistinguishable at lower load ratio (R >0.3), compared to other alloys, which indicates that contribution of the crack closure vanishes. The crack growth rate curve for UFG steel exhibited a longer linear extension to the lower growth rate regime than that for the coarse grained as-received steel.

  • In this paper the effect of stress ratio on the fatigue crack growth rate of aluminum alloy A5083-O was examined. The fatigue tests were carried out using CCT (center cracked tension) specimens and CT(compact tension) specimens which were subjected to 0.5 and -1.0 stress ratio respectively. The obtained results are as follows; 1) The $\DeltaK_{th}$ as the function of stress ratio R was introduced in evaluating the fatigue crack growth rate of A5083-O. 2) A new model evaluating the effect of stress ratio on the fatigue crack growth rate was developed over the region of low and high propagation rate.
