Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) became popular platforms for the collection of remotely sensed data in the last years. This study deals with the monitoring of multi-temporal onion growth with very high resolution by means of low-cost equipment. The concept of the monitoring was estimation of multi-temporal onion growth using normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and meteorological factors. For this study, UAV imagery was taken on the Changnyeong, Hapcheon and Muan regions eight times from early February to late June during the onion growing season. In precision agriculture frequent remote sensing on such scales during the vegetation period provided important spatial information on the crop status. Meanwhile, four plant growth parameters, plant height (P.H.), leaf number (L.N.), plant diameter (P.D.) and fresh weight (F.W.) were measured for about three hundred plants (twenty plants per plot) for each field campaign. Three meteorological factors included average temperature, rainfall and irradiation over an entire onion growth period. The multiple linear regression models were suggested by using stepwise regression in the extraction of independent variables. As a result, $NDVI_{UAV}$ and rainfall in the model explain 88% and 68% of the P.H. and F.W. with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 7.29 cm and 59.47 g, respectively. And $NDVI_{UAV}$ in the model explain 43% of the L.N. with a RMSE of 0.96. These lead to the result that the characteristics of variations in onion growth according to $NDVI_{UAV}$ and other meteorological factors were well reflected in the model.
Automated greenhouse production system often require crop growth monitoring involving accurate quantification of plant physiological properties. Conventional methods are usually burdensome, inaccurate, and harmful to crops. A thermal image analysis system can accomplish rapid and accurate measurements of physiological-property changes of stressed crops. In this research a thermal imaging system was used to measure the leaf-temperature changes of several crops according to nutrient stresses. Thermal images were obtained from lettuce, cucumber, and pepper plants. Plants were placed in growth chamber to provide relatively constant growth environment. Results showed that there were significant differences in the temperature of stressed plants and non-stressed plants. In a case of the both N deficiency and excess, the leaf temperatures of cucumber were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature. The leaf temperature of cucumber was $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature only when it was under N excess stress. For the potassium deficiency or excess stress, the leaf temperaures of cucumber and hot pepper were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controls, respectively. The phosphorous deficiency stress dropped the leaf temperatures of cucumber and hot pepper $2^{\circ}C$ and $1.5^{\circ}C$ below than controls. However, the leaf temperature of lettuce did not change. It was possible to detect the changes in leaf temperature by infrared thermography when subjected to nutrition stress. Since the changes in leaf temperatures were different each other for plants and kinds of stresses, however, it is necessary to add a nutrient measurement system to a plant-growth monitoring system using thermography.
The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) whether the level of parental monitoring changes during adolescence; (2) if it changes, what is the pattern of the change; and (3) whether the effects of adolescents' attachment to their parents on parental monitoring are dependent on time. Six waves of data from the Korea Youth Panel Study (KYPS) were used to address the research questions. The participants of the KYPS were 3,449 (1,725 boys and 1,724 girls) adolescents who participated in the study once a year for 6 years (from the 2nd grade in middle school until their high school graduation). Latent growth modeling (LGM) was used to analyze the data. The findings are as follows: the level of parental monitoring significantly increased over the six waves of the study, and the adolescents' attachment to their parents was a time-dependent predictor of parental monitoring. The results indicate that the quality of adolescents' attachment to their parents is an important factor that makes a difference in the level of parental monitoring by, possibly, affecting the level of adolescents' disclosure to their parents.

As a result of the 2-year monthly monitoring of the phytoplankton community at 3 stations in Mankyeong Estuary, Korea, we learned that cyan bacterial species of the genus Anabaena occurred at most sampling points with huge salinity differences (0.1-32.5 psu). We isolated several clones of Anabaena spp. from the monitoring stations, and screen out two euryhaline and nitrogen-fixing Anabaena clones, CB-MAL21 and CB-MAL22. The two clones were grown under various environmental gradients such as temperature (20, 30, 35 and 40$^{\circ}C$), salinity (0, 2, 5, 15 and 30psu), and $PO_4^{3-}$-P concentration (0, 1.6, 8.0, 40 and 200 ${\mu}M$M). Growth of CB-MAL21 and CB-MAL22 was measured by daily monitoring of chlorophyll fluorescence from each experimental culture for more than three serial transfers. Both the two experimental clones did not grow at 0psu. Maximal growth rates of the two clones were markedly reduced at lower $PO_4^{3-}$-P concentrations showing negligible growth at 0 and 1.6 ${\mu}M$M. However, growth of CB-MAL21 was not affected by low $NO_3^--$ concentration in culture media, showing the nitrogen-fixing ability. Maximum biomass yields of the two clones decreased dramatically at 35 and 40$^{\circ}C$. Optimal growth conditions for the two experimental clones were determined to be 20-30$^{\circ}C$, 40 ${\mu}M$M $PO_4^{3-}$-P, and wide salinity range from 5.0 to over 30psu. Best growth of CB-MAL21 was shown at (20$^{\circ}C$-15psu), which is less saline and cooler condition than those (i.e., 30$^{\circ}C$-30psu) for the best growth of CB-MAL22. The euryhaline and nitrogen-fixing CB-MAL21 strain thus can be a candidate laboratory culture for the future cyan bacterial marine biotechnology in temperate coastal waters.
Application of the Rheocatch Hotwire Monitoring System for food biotechnology process was evaluated. The growth of microogranism, E coli (JM 83 and Sigma) and Corynesccfertun glutamicum, were monitored. in the fermentor. The cell growth could not be detected the temperature differences between the hotwire and samples($\Delta$T) as indicated by the monitoring system during the fermentation processes. The cell concentration of less than 2g/dl was not sufficient to generate the measurable temperature difference in the fermentor. In order to calibrate the Rheocatch Monitoring System, the temperature difference as a function of solute concentration (microbial cells, sodium cholide, sucrose and dextran) was studied. The relationship between $\Delta$T and the concentration of microbial cells, sucrose and dextran can be expressed in a power series. Further studied with dextran indicated that viscosity and/or kinematic viscosity increase exponentially with an increase in $\Delta$T This is regardless of the concentration and molecular weight of dextran. $\Delta$T linearly increases with the logarithm of molecular weight, while the logarithm of viscosity and the logarithm of kinematic viscosity increase with the logarithm of molecular weight.
Urban growth management is essential for sustainable urban growth. Monitoring physical urban built-up area is a task of great significance to manage urban growth. Detecting urbanized area is essential for monitoring urbanized area. Although image classifications using satellite imagery are among the conventional methods for detecting urbanized area, they requires very tedious and hard work, especially if time-series remote sensing data have to be processed. In this paper, we propose an effective urbanized area detecting method based on normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalized difference built-up index (NDBI). To verify the proposed method, we extract urbanized area using two methods; one is conventional supervised classification method and the other is the proposed method. Experiments shows that two methods are consistent with 98% in 1998, 99.3% in 2000, namely the consistency of two methods is very high. Because the proposed method requires no more process without band operations, it can reduce time and effort. Compared with the supervised classification method, the proposed method using vegetation indices can serve as quick and efficient alternatives for detecting urbanized area.

In this paper, we design and build an information system for the growth management of agricultural products and aquatic products by ubiquitous computing. So that, we installed various sensor systems and developed IP Cam to establish monitoring. It was possible to construct an environmental management system based on IT technology by a database that directly controls and manages the growth conditions of agricultural products and aquatic products by monitoring. We have installed various sensors that can acquire data in real time and IP Cam is designed and manufactured in three parts. It was applied to agricultural and marine products and monitored soil moisture, temperature, and environmental information to establish conditions for growth environment.

This study was conducted to develop the on-line monitoring system for plant growth responses. The system consisted of two parts. One system was the measuring system and the other was its controlling system. The established measuring systems were the ultrasonic wave sensor driver for height of plant, the potentiometer for diameter of plant stem, and the weighing system with strain gage application for plant weight. Also, computer program for measurement and controlling was developed, and the whole system was tested by the fabricated plant, and the actual plant growth responses were monitored by the system. When monitoring the actual plant growth responses, even the small amount of plant growth resposes could be measured by the system within tolerable error ranges.

AlSb is a promising material for optical devices, particularly for high-frequency and nonlinear-optical applications. We report the effect of growth temperature on structural properties of AlSb grown on GaAs substrate. In particular we studied the surface of AlSb with the growth temperature by atomic force microscopy, and concluded that optimized growth temperature of AlSb is $530^{\circ}C$. We also show the result of real-time monitoring of AlSb growth by in situ ellipsometry. The results of the structural study are good agreement with the previous reported ellipsometric data.
