서울 지역 그룹홈 아동과 청소년의 식생활 실태 조사 (A Survey on the Dietary Life Status of Group Home Children and Adolescents in Seoul Region)

  • This research involved a survey on the dietary patterns of children and adolescents living in group homes, to find out their wrong eating habits and to devise measures for correcting their problems. The BMIs of the subject children and adolescents in group homes were measured, and the result showed that although many of them appeared to have normal weights, about 42.2% were actually underweight. Most of them had meals regularly, three times a day at fixed times. However, half of them frequently skipped breakfast because of the lack of time in the morning. In addition, more than half of them had the habit of having imbalanced diets, especially with low vegetable intake. The score for their satisfaction toward meals at group homes were highest (3.97) with the taste of food, while it was relatively lower (3.61) with the variety of food than with the other items. The average score for their snack intake was 3.47, showing that the majority of them had the habit of eating snacks, while the largest portion (26.0%) of them preferred bread and cookies. According to the result of the analysis on their food intake, overall calorie intake was about 82~96% of estimated energy requirements, while that of the male subjects aged 12 or older was about 82% of the standard energy requirements. Their overall intake of calcium and potassium was lower than recommended nutrition intake, but sodium intake was higher than 3 times recommended intake. Especially, in addition to calcium and potassium, the male subjects aged 15 or older showed low intake of dietary fiber, iron, zinc, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin C and folate also; whereas the female subjects aged 15 or older showed low intake of iron, zinc, riboflavin and folate also. Taken together, it was concluded that government level of dietary life-related support and management would be necessary for the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents in group homes.

여고생의 비만도에 따른 식습관과 식품섭취에 관한 연구 (A Study on Eating Habits and Food consumption pattern among High school girls)

  • This study was undertaken to assess eating habits and food consumption pattern of 365 adolescent girls in Kwangju area. Subjects were divided into 3 groups based on relative body weight as obesity index. Anthropometric data showed that mean height and weight were $161.9{\pm}19.0cm$ and $53.3{\pm}7.2kg$ respectively which are similar to those in the Korean Standard Growth data. Mean BMI and relative body weight were 20.50 and 97.1%. Age of menarche in the subjects significantly influenced the obesity index. Food habit score in the underweight group was significantly lower than that in the normal group at ${\alpha}=0.2$ level by multiple range test. Obesity was significantly associated with more frequent and irregular eating. It seems that students in the obese group were concerned on their body weight and tended to consume much vegetable. Obese group consumed more fruits, less butter and fruit juice compared to other groups. It might be suggested that more effective nutrition program might be developed and implemented to ensure good food habit of adolescent girls including obese as well as underweight group.

어린이집 아동들의 식생활 태도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dietary Attitudes of Preschool Children in Child Care Center)

  • This study aimed at examine dietary attitude, eating behavior and food preferences of children in child care center. The children involved in this study were 153 boys and 134 girls, aged 3 to 6 years old. The eating frequency of breakfast and the number of meal times a day were significant difference according to sex(P<0.01). Reason for skipping breakfast was ‘no appetite’(49.3%). It was found that 51.5% of the children belonged to ‘fair’ in food habit score, while children in ‘poor’ and in ‘excellent’ were 25.0% and 9.7% respectively. There was no significant difference in food habit score between boys and girls. Their preferred staple foods were ‘cooked rice’ and ‘Chajangmyon’, their preferred soup was ‘seaweed soup’. Also, their most preferred side dishes with animal foods were ‘fried chicken’ and ‘Bulgogi’. The preference of ‘hard boiled soybean curd’ and ‘pan fried soybean curd’ among the side dishes with vegetable foods were significant according to the obesity index(P<0.05). Children preferred side dishes with animal foods to those with vegetable foods. First considered item in meal preparation was child's favorite(58.1%). Mother's response to child's unbalanced diet was ‘trying to persuade the child’(56.6%). It was significant according to mother's occupation(P<0.01). The nutritional management program at child care center is required to enhance the nutritional status of children. Also the nutritional education for the children and their meal planners is required for better growth and health promotion of preschool children.

홍천강 상류에 서식하는 금강모치, Rhynchocypris kumgangensis (Cyprinidae)의 식성 (Feeding Habit of Rhynchocypris kumgangensis (Cyprinidae) from the Hongcheon River, Korea)

  • 강원도 홍천군 서석면 생곡리에서 2002년 4월부터 2003년 3월까지 하천의 상류수역에 서식하는 한국 특산종인 R. kumgangensis의 식성에 대하여 조사하였다. R. kumgangensis는 주로 Ephemeroptera, Diptera, Terrestrial insects와 Trichoptera를 섭식하는 식충성 어류로 밝혀졌다. 주요한 먹이생물은 깔다구류(Chironomus sp.)였다. 크기가 작은 개체군에서는 Diptera와 같은 작은 크기의 먹이를 섭식하고, 성장함에 따라 Ephemeroptera와 Terrestrial insects같은 크기가 큰 먹이로의 먹이 전환이 일어난다. 또한 계절의 변화에 따라 먹이항목의 상대적 비율이 변화한다.

USGA 지반구조에서 한지형 잔디의 여름 고온기 적응력, 색상 및 연중 녹색 유지기간 비교 (Comparison of Summer Turf Performance, Color, and Green Color Retention among Cool-Season Grasses Grown under USGA Soil System)

  • Research was initiated to investigate turf performance under USGA soil system. USGA system 45 centimeters deep was built with rootzone layer, intermediate layer, and drainage layer. Six turfgrass entries were comprised of 3 blends and 3 mixtures from cool-season grasses (CSG). Turfgrass color and quality ratings were best in spring and fall, especially early May to early July and late August to early November. Kentucky bluegrass (KB) consistently produced the greatest performance, while perennial ryegrass (PR) the poorest. Intermediate turf performance between KB and PR was observed with tall fescue (TF). Among CSG mixtures it increased with KB but decreased with PR. There were considerable variations in summer turf Performance. No summer drought injury was found in KB and TF. However, PR showed poor performance through summer as compared with others. Among mixtures, it decreased with PR. It was suggested that PR mix in less than $20\%$ in the mixtures to have an acceptable quality in summer. Cultural intensity also affected it. With lowering mowing height, KB of rhizomatous-type in growth habit kept good quality, while PR and TF with bunch-type in growth habit poor quality. Mowing quality was greatly different among CSG. KB produced clean-cut surface, but PR unclean one. If had an intermediate mowing quality between KB and PR. A great difference in green color retention was observed among CSG. The longest CSG was PR that kept green for 339 days, while the shortest one TF for 267 days. KB continued to keep green for 290 days. The mixtures kept green in color for 292 to 315 days, depending on turfgrass mixing intensity. The greater the PR in content, the longer the green color duration. These results demonstrate that KB was the best and PR the worst among CSG grown in USGA system under a domestic climate, in regards of turf quality, color, mowing quality, summer turf performance and green color duration. KB and TF are most adequate for high-maintenance and low-maintenance area, respectively. In case of mixtures for high-quality turf, it was desirable to use KB-based mixture with PR of below $20\%$ in seeding rate.

Ecological Correlates of Flowering Seasons in Korean Angiosperms

  • Ecological correlates of flowering times often are examined to infer evolutionary mechanisms for flowering time diversities. We examined ecological characteristic associations such as growth habits and pollination modes with flowering times among 3,037 Korean angiosperms experiencing strong climatic seasonalities. We first examined taxonomic membership effects on flowering times across diverse taxonomic levels. Phylogeny constrained flowering times at all levels down to the genus level. We then analyzed the effects of ecological characteristics using subset data consisting of species randomly selected from each genus to control phylogenetic effects. The commonly observed patterns of early flowering of woody species in temperate regions existed. Spring flowering shrubs and trees, however, both being woody, were involved with biotic and abiotic vectors, respectively. In two herbaceous groups of annuals and perennials, annuals flowered later in the growing season than perennials although both herbs tended to be associated with abiotic vectors when flowering in autumn. These results support our hypothesis that species able to decouple vegetative and reproductive growth flower in spring's dry season, but species with different habits, even when they flower within the same season, are subjected to different selective pressures for efficient pollination.

맥류의 세대촉진방법에 관한 연구 IV. 수원지역에서 소맥 1년 2기작 세대촉진재배 (Studies on the Procedures of Accelerating Generation Advancement in Wheat and Barley Breeding IV. Advancement of Two Generations of Wheat Materials a Year at Suweon by Growing a Summer Generation)

  • 수원지역의 포장조건하에서 1년2기작 세대촉진 재배방법을 구명하기 위하여 1978~1979년에 걸쳐 파성정도가 1~VI에 촉하는 품종을 공시하여 추파재배를 실시한 후, 6월 10일에 수확하고, 미숙종자 최아법, 최아종자녹체춘화법을 이용하여 파성을 소거한 후, 하계재배 이식시기시험을 하였던 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 1. 하계재배시 이식시 유묘의 활착율은 이식시기가 빠를수록 좋고, 이식시기가 늦을수록 활착률이 낮아지는 경향이었다. 2. 하계재배시 출수기는 이식시기가 빠를수록 빠른 경향이며, 양년도를 볼 때 7월 상중순에 이식하는 것이 좋았다. 3. 춘추파성품종의 간장은 모두 이식시기에 구별없이 차이가 적었고, 고온일 1978년은 8~16cm로 생육이 불량하였으나, 1979년에는 25~65cm 범위로 생육이 좋았다. 4. 수장은 1979년에 이식시기에 따라 일정한 경향은 없으나, 춘파성품종은 고온기 이식구는 수장이 짧고, 추파성품종이 춘파성품종보다 수장이 긴 편이었다. 5. 주당수수는 1979년의 경우 이식기간에 따라 차이가 없이 1~3본이며, 7월 상중순 이식구가 약간 많은 편이고 파성이 V 이상인 품종은 수형성이 되지 못하였다. 6. 1 수입수는 이식시기가 빠를수록 많았으며, 7월 상중순 이식구가 세대촉진재배에 유리하였고, 파성이 I~IV인 품종은 주당립수면으로 세대촉진에 충분한 종자생산이 가능하였다. 7. 2년차 성적으로 보아 수원지방에서 1년2기작 세대촉진재배는 하계 최고온도가 32$^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 재배가 불가능하고 1979년과 같이 평년기온과 비슷한 해에는 재배가 가능한 것으로 판정되어 재배모형을 작성하였다.생리적 성숙기부터 10일간 뚜렷이 감소하였다. 5. 이상의 수확기와 정곡수량 탈립성, 미질의 상관에서 나타난 수확적기는 생리적 성숙기 10일후 경이며, 이 시기의 곡립수분함량은 20% 정도이었다.9.0~46.9% 였고, 지방은 18.0~22.1%, 17.1~22.5% 및 16.7~23.6% 였다. 6. 종실의 평균 단백질함량은 5월 25일, 6월 10 및 6월 25일 파종이 각각 41.9, 42.7 및 43.1%로 파종기가 늦어짐에 따라서 약간 증가하였고 품종별로는 서천백묘, 백천, SS-74185 및 강림 등이 높고 수원8003, 수원8006 및 Hill이 낮았으며 나머지 품종은 중정도였다. 한편 지방함량은 각각 19.8, 19.3 및 19.2%로 파종기간 차가 작았고 품종별로는 수원8003, 수원8006, 동북대, 봉의 및 Williams 등이 높고 서천백일, 강림, 백천, 륙우003, 동산6001, 동산 7003 및 성안 등이 비교적 낮았고 기타 품종은 중정도였으며, 대체로 단백질함량이 높았던 품종들이 지방함량이 낮은 경향이었다. 7. 단백질과 지방함량기간의 상관은 5월 25일 파종에서 고도의 부의 상관(r=-0.5914)이나 6월10일과 6월 25일 상관에서 각각 r=-0.3038과 -0.2975로 부의 상관경향만을 보여 파종기에 따란 상관의 정도가 약간 달랐다. 8. 10a당 종실수량은 6월10일 파종(100%)에 비해 5월 25일 파종에서 104%로 그 착 적었으나, 6월 25일 파종에서는 76%로 만파에 의한 감수정도가 컸다. 품종별 수량은 5월 25일 파종에서 동산7003, Hill 및 Williams, 6월 10일 파종에서 동산 6001, 동산

어머니의 영양태도와 영양지식이 초등학생 자녀의 비만발생 요인에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mothers′ Nutritional Attitudes and Knowledge on Their Children′s Obesity Inducing Factors)

  • This study investigated the effects of mothers' nutritional attitudes and knowledge on their children's obesity inducing factors: eating habits, food preferences, food frequencies, and physical activities. The subjects were 774 mothers and their elementary school children (774) in Busan. About thirty percent of the children had a tendency toward obesity as a result of their eating habits, food preferences, food frequencies, and physical activities, but their mothers' nutritional attitudes and knowledge had little affect on their children's obesity inducing factors. Though the children were interested in their body weight changes, they chose not to practice appropriate eating habits. Thus, education about good eating habits and appropriate physical activities should be promoted for children's health and growth. Because the mothers' nutritional attitudes and knowledge had little affect on their children in this study, nutrition education in school needs to be enhanced. However, because mothers play many roles in their children's habit and health, they also need to be educated in order that their nutritional attitudes and knowledge help their children's health and growth directly. And school and home should be more closely connected.

Physiological and Genetical Characters for Early Maturity in Barley and Common Wheat

  • Physiology and genetics of early maturity in cereals are the subject of practical as well as scientific interest for agronomist and plant breeders, Thorough understanding of the true nature of such a complex character requires physiological and genetical knowledge about the internal factors, which are closely bound up with and react to some particular external or environmental factors. From the practical point of view. experiments should be conducted under controlled conditions. especially the day length and temperature, so that the genotypic differences pertaining to these factors may be discerned. Takahashi and Yasuda (1958, 1970) maintained that at least three physiological factors were responsible for determining earliness in barley. namely. (1) spring and winter habit of growth or vernalization requirement, (2) ogitioeruiduc response or sensitivity to short-day, and (3) earliness factor in a narrow sense or minimal vegetative growth. The same situations were true in common wheat also (Yasuda and Shimoyama, 1965), In this report. physiology and genetics of internal factors and their relations to the time of heading in the field will be presented with some problems concerning differences in mechanism of early maturity between barley and wheat.

$ZnWO_4$ 단결정 성장 ($ZnWO_4$ Single Crystal Growth)

  • Single crystals of zinc tungstates were grown by the Czochralski method. To obtain the seed crystals various methods were employed including 4 points platinum wirse which dipped the melt and the capillary action from the melt led the 3 differently oriented seeds such as [100], [010] and [001] directions. Optimum growing conditions were observed as neck diameter 2mm rotation speed 50-60 rpm maximum diameter 15mm and pulling rate 0-10 mm/hr. Dendrites covered on the olidified surface in a platinum crucible were turned out to be [001] direction because obviously this crystal has the strong [001] preferential growth habit. The (100) and (010) planes of single crystals showed the slip planes and the (010) plane showed the perfect cleavage surface.
