Evaluation of Performance of Grouts and Pipe Sections for Closed-loop Vertical Ground Heat Exchanger by In-situ Thermal Response Test (현장 열응답 시험을 통한 수직 밀폐형 지중열교환기용 그라우트와 열교환 파이프 단면의 성능 평가)

  • In performing a series of in-situ thermal response tests, the effective thermal conductivities of six vertical closed-loop ground heat exchangers were experimentally evaluated and compared one another, which were constructed in a test bed in Wonju. To compare thermal efficiency of the ground heat exchangers in field, the six boreholes were constructed with different construction conditions: grouting materials (cement vs. bentonite), different additives (silica sand vs. graphite) and the shape of pipe-sections (general U-loop type vs. 3 pipe-type). From the test results, it can be concluded that cement grouting has a higher effective thermal conductivity than bentonite grouting, and the efficiency of graphite better performs than silica sand as a thermally-enhancing addictive. In addition, a new 3 pipe-type heat exchanger provides less thermal interference between the inlet and outlet pipe than the conventional U-loop type heat exchanger, which results in superior thermal performance. Based on the results from the in-situ thermal response tests, a series of economic analyses have been made to show the applicability of the new addictives and 3 pipe-type heat exchanger.

Physical Properties Variation of Grout Materials Based on the Water to Cement Ratio and the Mixing Speed (물시멘트비 및 혼합속도에 따른 주입재의 물성변화 연구)

  • Generally, OPC(ordinary portland cement) is used for grouting in Korea, and bentonite has usually been added to prevent the deposition of cement particles. The dispersion of CB(cement bentonite) grout is influenced by variable factors i.e. water to cement ratio, particle size of cement, kind of bentonite, adding volume, method of adding, viscosity of CB grout materials and curdling time. Among variable factors, the viscosity of CB grout materials is influenced by the dispersion, and dispersion is improved as the speed of grout mixer increase. In this paper, the specification of construction was derived by estimating physical characteristics of CB grout materials and confirming the sate of dispersion. The results show that the engineering characteristics of CB grout materials vary with the water to cement ratio and the mixing speed.

  • A ground loop heat exchanger for the ground source heat pump system is the core equipment determining the thermal performance and initial cost of the system The length and performance of the heat exchanger is dependent on the ground thermal conductivity, the operation hours, the ground loop diameter, the grout, the ground loop arrangement, the pipe placement and the design temperature. The result of this simulation shows that higher thermal conductivity of grouting materials leads to the decrease length of geothermal heat exchanger from 100.0 to 84.4%.

  • The objective of this study is to develope ground heat exchanger using PHC pile used to building foundation, and it's element technology. So we made PHC piles into ground heat exchanger and evaluate it's performance. First, we studied PHC pile type, heat exchanger pipe, grouting materials, and present apartment house's foundation condition for PHC ground heat exchanger. As a result we designed BIGS(Building Integrated Geothermal System) prototype. Second, we applied BIGS to apartment houses' utility building in Osan built by Daelim. Third, we monitored heating performance of winter season. 1be result of heating performance was so good to apply to heat & cooling system in building.

  • Generally it is informed that urethane materials are superior to the others in physical characteristics, durability, ground improvement and the influence to environment . But, the existing urethane methods are too expensive to apply. So this study has analyzed the applicability of TAS method which has developed the existing urethane injection mechanism. From the results, Extending the max-infection distance over l0m from 6m which the existing methods could inject to, TAS method has proved to be economical. Also, the TAS method is obtained quickly to ground improvement effect in various tunnel constructions because rise-time was relatively shorter than that of cement-grouting. Therefore, it is expected that TAS method would be applied a lot for water proof and ground improvement etc. owing to its many advantages mentioned the above.

  • This paper concerns the measurement of thermal conductivity of grouting materials for ground loop heat exchanger. A thermal conductivity meter, QTM-500 based on modified transient hot wire method was used to measure the thermal conductivity of neat bentonite and mixtures of bentonite and various additives. Relative to the total mixture mass, as the percent additive was increased the mixture thermal conductivity increased. For the bentonite-silica sand mixtures, the higher density of the sand particles resulted in much higher mixture thermal conductivity.

Thermal Response Property of Grout Materials from In-situ Test and Temperature Variation of Ground Heat Exchanger (그라우트 재료별 열응답 특성 및 열교환기 운전온도 변화)

  • The objective of this report is to determine the difference of thermal response that grouted two different materials, and compare the simulation result of the length of total ground heat exchanger length that using the ground thermal conductivity. And also to know heat exchange variation of ground heat exchanger temperature that measured with various test depth. The result shows that the test hole grouted with water permeable material got better thermal response than grouted with water impermeable material. However, with consideration of ingnore for the initial 12 hour data, the test hole grouted with impermeable material has larger thermal conductivity than the other. By former thermal conductivity, simulated data by engineering program shows only 3.4% difference or less. This result shows that ground thermal conductivity is not the main variables for the design program of ground heat exchanger. At the cooling or heating mode, base on the depth of -150m, the ground heat exchanger has best temperature at $-90{\sim}-60m$ and than getting worse because of entering water heat exchanged with leaving water in the same hole.

  • This study introduces strength characteristics of the anti-washout grouting material using viscous modifiers and its characteristics mixed with coarse materials. Especially, this study focused on the strength characteristics of the grouts mixed with sea water. It is found that the anti-washout grout mixed with sea water has enough strength and good resistance to segregation just like that with fresh water. Also, a small scale test was performed to evaluate the solidification characteristic of the anti-washout grout mixed with coarse fill materials. It is also found that the strength of anti-washout grout mixed with coarse fill materials is greater and better segregation resistance than those of conventional grout with fill materials.

  • In this study, experimental study on cement grout materials containing anti-washout admixtures or accelerators in grout column for reinforcement technology in groundwater-saturated mining cavity was conducted. As a result, the cement milk containing anti-washout admixtures was suitable for mixed aggregates, and the cement mortar containing anti-washout admixtures and the cement milk containing accelerators were suitable for crushed stone aggregate in terms of forming grout column. Especially, in the case of crushed stone aggregate injecting the cement milk containing accelerators, the diameter of the grout column was greatest and the void of the crushed stone aggregate was filled with grout materials. Therefore the case of crushed stone aggregate injecting the cement milk containing accelerators is considered for optimal grout materials and aggregate.

  • This paper discusses about the reinforcement materials and construction method in order to cope with roadbed settlement in operating railway. In Korea, concrete tracks have been introduced to urban railways, high-speed railways, and general railways, but some recently constructed concrete tracks have experienced roadbed settlements. Reinforcement of the railway roadbed is urgent task for safe operation of railway, but it is difficult to reinforce the roadbed and there are no case history of reinforcing railway roadbed under an operating railroad track. Therefore, in this study, the target performance level for roadbed reinforcement was determined, and infiltration and solidity injection efficiency were investigated for selected reinforcement materials. As a result of the study, it was found that the generally used reinforcement materials and methods for geotechnical works need to be improved for applying in railway roadbed reinforcement.
