An Analysis of the Quadrangle Type of Raymond Unwin (레이몬드 언윈의 쿼드앵글 유형 해석)

  • This paper has attempted to analyze the site planning theories of Raymond Unwin (1863-1940), who is called the father of British town planning. A prominent contribution of his was to establish both the site planning of garden suburb and urban housing style in British type. Here it attempts to analyze how he greatly and firmly established the concept of Housing Group, and how he got this the concept from the life and spatial composition of villages. It could be pointed out that the main factors of the Unwin theory are social mixture, creation of community consciousness and informal landscape design, and that the small enclosed space with plenty of amenity is his main theme. It is pointed out that the Unwin theory is composed of recognizing urban life as totality, and group planning theory, and that he definitely originated a new technique: Housing Group. It is analyzed that the syntactic relations between the group planning theory and housing designs in the English garden suburbs are epitomized in Hampstead Garden Suburb, Middlesex.

  • It has been established that the role played by complete graphs in graph theory is similar to the role Dowling group geometries and Projective geometries play in matroid theory. In this paper, we introduce a notion of H-tree, a class of representable matroids which play a similar role to trees in graph theory. Then we give some properties of H-trees such that when q = 0, then the results reduce to the known properties of trees in graph theory. Finally we give explicit expressions of the characteristic polynomials of H-trees, H-cycles, H-fans and H-wheels.

  • The Weyl group of a compact connected Lie group is a reflection group. If such Lie groups are locally isomorphic, the representations of the Weyl groups are rationally equivalent. They need not however be equivalent as integral representations. Turning to the invariant theory, the rational cohomology of a classifying space is a ring of invariants, which is a polynomial ring. In the modular case, we will ask if rings of invariants are polynomial algebras, and if each of them can be realized as the mod p cohomology of a space, particularly for dihedral groups.

A Study on Group Theoretic Approximation Model for Gwaeyul of Geomungo (거문고 괘율에 관한 군론적 근사화 모형 개발 연구)

  • Recently, interdisciplinary relation is emphasized on and various models are proposed. Since group theory is one of the important areas of modern mathematics, all the mathematics teachers for secondary school are familiar with it. Group theory, the theory of symmetries, are effectively applied to music or arts. In this paper, we understand the approximation model for gwaeyul of geomungo group theoretically to show the relation between mathematics and music(Korean music, in particular). This paper, in fact, proposes a group theoretic approximation model for gwaeyul of geomungo. The materials like this will be of help to teachers who try to integrate mathematics to other areas.

Effects of Walking Program based on Social Cognitive Theory for Office Workers (사무직 근로자를 위한 사회인지이론 기반 걷기 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a walking program for office workers in terms of social cognitive theory, walking activities and physiological indexes. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 50 office workers who were identified as having low levels of physical activity according to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ Research Committee, 2005). The participants were recruited from two companies in Seoul. Of the 50 participants, 26 were assigned to the non-equivalent experimental group and 24 to the control group. The walking program consisted of six didactic sessions via e-mail, two individual telecoaching sessions and three support group meetings over ten weeks. Data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0 program. Results: The non-equivalent experimental group reported significantly higher posttest scores in walking activities and adhering to the walking protocol than the control group. There were no differences in reported self-efficacy, outcome expectations, body mass index and blood pressure between the two groups. Conclusion: These findings indicate that a walking program based on social cognitive theory is effective in increasing physical activities for office workers.

The Effect of Simulation-based Training on the Competence of Basic Life Support of the students Emergency Medical Technology (시뮬레이션 교육이 응급구조과 학생의 기본소생술 수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : The simulation-based training in this research consists of theory and practice. Before the training, target students took a test on the competence of basic life support. Based on the result, they were separated as the subject group and comparison group. The simulation-based training was offered to the subject group and the traditional training was given to the comparison group. As soon as the training was completed, a follow-up study was conducted. Methods : This research aimed to figure out the effect of the simulation-based training on the competence of basic life support of the students Emergency Medical Technology. To this end, the nonequivalent pretest-posttest-quasi-experimental design using a comparison group was conducted. Results : The first hypothesis was that 'The group who took the simulation-based training would show higher points in the knowledge of basic life support than the group who took the traditional training.' Among those who took prior theory education, the subject group showed $69.38{\pm}20.43$ points while the comparison group showed $76.25{\pm}21.33$ points(t = -0.658, p = 0.531). Among those who took prior theory education and training, the subject group showed $82.86{\pm}10.86$ points while the comparison group showed $79.33{\pm}15.45$ points(t = 0.705, p = 0.487). Since there were no significant statistical differences between the two groups, the first hypothesis didn't hold. It showed few differences between the two training methods. The second hypothesis was that 'The group who took the simulation-based training would show higher points in the basic life support skills than the group who took the traditional training.' Among those who took prior theory education, the subject group showed $65.75{\pm}7.66$ points while the comparison group showed $46.88{\pm}13.48$ points(t = -3.442, p = 0.004). Among those who took prior theory education and training, the subject group showed $79.50{\pm}11.40$ points while the comparison group showed $62.13{\pm}11.44$ points(t = 4.091, p = 0.000). Since there were significant statistical differences between the two groups, the second hypothesis held. It showed substantial differences between the two training methods. Conclusion : The group who took the simulation-based training showed more positive effects on the competence of basic life support than those who took the traditional training. Therefore, it is confirmed that the simulation-based training is a useful method to improve clinical work performance of the students Emergency Medical Technology.

Effect of an Agreement on Means to Achieve Smoking Cessation Goals among College Student Smokers (흡연 대학생의 목표달성방법 합의가 금연목표달성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of attaining a smoking cessation goal when an agreement on means to achieve smoking cessation among male college student smokers was established. Method: This study was planned as a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design and the sample was divided into an agreement group and a comparison group by convenience sampling in a college of G city. The data was analysed with SPSS Win10.0 using a Likelihood $x^2-test$, Odds ratio, Paired t-test and ANCOVA. Result: The theory that the degree of smoking cessation will be higher in the agreement group than the Comparison group was rejected (${\delta}$ = 2.567, p = .055). The theory that nicotine dependency will be lower in the agreement group than the comparison group was supported (F = 3.965, P = .049); however, the theory that the number of cigarettes smoked per day will be lower in the agreement group than the comparison group was rejected (F = 1.342, p = .252). Conclusion: It has been shown that an agreement on means to achieve smoking cessation goals is a key factor to success in quitting smoking.

A Study of Changes Experienced and Processes of the Participants in Group Bibliotherapy by Grounded Theory (근거이론을 적용한 집단독서치료 참여자들의 변화경험과 과정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and understand changes experienced by participants in group bibliotherapy. For this purpose, individual interviews were conducted with 14 adults who were chosen by the best bibliotherapists through peer nomination and the results were analyzed by grounded theory, which is one sort of qualitative research method. This study has a significant meaning to provide a foundation of understanding of group bibliotherapy by exploring participants' experiences in depth through grounded theory approach and revealing the changes experienced and process of group bibliotherapy.

Effects of a Video-Based Infection Control Education Program Applying the Social Cognitive Theory on Caregivers

  • This study was conducted with a non-equivalent control group experimental design to investigate the effects of a video-based infection control program through the application of the social cognitive theory on caregivers. Forty-six caregivers were recruited, with 23 pairs being randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups each. While the experimental group took part in the video-based education, the control group was involved in typical lectures. For two weeks, both groups were educated on the principles of infection control, medical and external handwashing, standard precautions, and quarantine. Their knowledge, performance, and self-efficacy were evaluated before and after the program. There was a significant increase in knowledge (p<.001 and p=.005) and infection control performance (p<.001) in the experimental and control groups. Similarly, self-efficacy, self-regulatory efficacy, task-difficulty preference and confidence significantly increased in the experimental group (p<.001). In the control group, only task-difficulty preference significantly increased (p=.005). Consequently, the online video-based infection control education program applying the social cognitive theory proved effective in improving the caregivers' knowledge and performance in infection control, and their self-efficacy. We suggest the use of this program in effective infection control education for caregivers in the future.

  • The contingency theory of leadership was proposed by F. Fiedler. In his theory, he divided the group into Task oriented and Relationship-oriented people based on work-style by LPC(Least Preffered Co-workers) test. This survey searches significance of interaction usage depending on which group has more aggressive interaction on the address list with mobile phones focusing on the differences between mainfunctions (name, cell phone, group name) and sub-functions (birthday, Photo, E-mail). Itis the hypothesis that the relationship-oriented group has more interaction than the task-oriented group which was identified through the analyzed usage of the address list. Results show that the contingency theory was not appropriately related with the research. Interaction usage by the following task based on Fiedler's contingency theory of leadership isn't related much. However, by discovering the interesting patterns by the test, this research is able to guide human-centered address design directions.
