The ground-based spacecraft simulator is a useful tool to realize various space missions and satellite formation flying in the future. Also, the spacecraft simulator can be used to develop and verify new control laws required by modern spacecraft applications. In this research, therefore, Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator which can be demonstrated the experimental validation of the theoretical results is designed and developed. The main components of the HIL simulator which we focused on are the thruster system to attitude control and automatic mass-balancing for elimination of gravity torques. To control the attitude of the spacecraft simulator, 8 thrusters which using the cold gas (N2) are aligned with roll, pitch and yaw axis. Also Linear actuators are applied to the HIL simulator for automatic mass balancing system to compensate for the center of mass offset from the center of rotation. Addition to the thruster control system and Linear actuators, the HIL simulator for spacecraft attitude control includes an embedded computer (Onboard PC) for simulator system control, Host PC for simulator health monitoring, command and post analysis, wireless adapter for wireless network, rate gyro sensor to measure 3-axis attitude of the simulator, inclinometer to measure horizontality and battery sets to independently supply power only for the simulator. Finally, we present some experimental results from the application of the controller on the spacecraft simulator.
REcent research about current testing($\textrm{I}_{DDQ}$ testing) has been emphasizing that $\textrm{I}_{DDQ}$ testing in addition to the logical voltage testing is necessary to increase the fault coverage. The $\textrm{I}_{DDQ}$. testing can detect physical faults other than the classical stuck-at type fault, which affect reliability. One of the most critical issues in the $\textrm{I}_{DDQ}$ testing is to insert a built-in current sensor (BICS) that can detect abnormal static currents from the power supply or to the ground. This paper presents a new BICS for internal current testing for large CMOS logic circuits. The proposed BICS uses a single phase clock to minimize the hardware overhead. It detects faulty current flowing and converts it into a corresponding logic voltage level to make converts it into a corresponding logic voltage level to make it possible to use the conventional voltage testing techniqeus. By using current mirroring technique, the proposed BICS can work at very high speed. Because the proposed BICS almost does not affects normal operation of CUT(circuit under test), it can be used to a very large circuit without circuit partitioning. By altenating the operational modes, a circuit can be $\textrm{I}_{DDQ}$-tested as a kind of self-testing fashion by using the proposed BICS.
This paper describes the properties of temperature-viscosity characteristics of hydrous and anhydrous electro-rheological fluids containing starch and titanium particle in silicone oil ER effects arise from electrostatic forces between the starch particles and titanium particles dispersed to the electrically insulating silicone oil induced when electric field is applied ER fluids under electric field control have been found to provide resonable estimates of ER fluid viscosity variation characteristics. Yield shear stress of the ER fluids were measured the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electrlc fields. The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and bob becomes ground(-). The electrie field is applied by high voltage DC power supply. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200 $s^{-1}$ in 2 minutes. The ER fluid's viscosity change is very small and stable at the temperature range of $40^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. Therefore, applications of a new ER fluid to control systems application are suitable.
Electro-Rheological(ER) fluids change their apparent viscosity according to the electric field strength. Therefore, there are many practical applications using the ER fluids. ER effect on the dispersive system of polarizable fine powder/dielectric oil has been investigated. The electrical and rheological properties of starch based ER fluid were reported. Yield stress of the fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields, particle concetrations, and temperatures. The electric field is applied by high voltage DC power supply, The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and the bob becomes ground(-). And the temperatures the viscosity(or shear stress) versus shear rates were measured. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200s$^{-1}$ in 2 minutes. This thesis presents Bingham properties of ER fluids subjected to temperature variations. The temperature dependence of the viscosity was determined for ER fluids consisting of 35 weight % starch particles in automatic transmission oil.
Corona characteristics of conductors are dependent on the electric field conditions in the immediate vicinity of the conductors. In case of DC transmission line, particularly, the space charge plays an important role in the electric field distribution. Therefore, DC corona cage simulation is necessary for long-term test in the same conditions. This paper presents the results of designing and constructing hardwares such as DC power supply, measurement system and DAS to carry out the simulation. The corona cage longitudinally is divided into five equal length sections and three inner sections of those are isolated from the ground of outer cage. The measurement items are radio noise, corona current, television noise, audible noise and meteorological conditions. In the next step, various simulations about the type and configuration of two or three candidate conductors will be conducted. And then finally an environmentally-friendly conductor for HVDC overhead transmission line will be decided.
A control algorithm combining viscous and non-linear Reid damping mechanisms has been recently proposed by the authors to command active friction dampers. In this paper, friction dampers and the proposed algorithm are applied to control the seismic responses of a nonlinear 20-story building. Piezoelectric stack actuators are used to implement the control algorithm. The capacity of each damper is determined by the practical size of piezoelectric actuators and the availability of power supply. The saturation effect of the actuators on the building responses is investigated. To minimize the peak story drift ratio or floor acceleration of the building structure, a practical sequential procedure is developed to sub-optimally place the dampers on various floors. The effectiveness of active friction dampers and the efficiency of the proposed sequential procedure are verified by subjecting the building structure to four earthquakes of various intensities. The performance of 80 dampers and 137 dampers installed on the structure is evaluated according to 5 criteria. Numerical simulations indicated that the proposed control algorithm effectively reduces the seismic responses of the uncontrolled 20-story building, such as inelastic deformation. The sub-optimal placement of dampers based on peak acceleration outperforms that based on peak drift ratio for structures subjected to near-fault ground motions. Saturation of piezoelectric actuators has adverse effect on floor acceleration.
In this paper, we analyzed the optimal configuration of protection wire that have been installed in the electric railway power supply system. Protection wires are to suppress the ground potential rise when the short circuit fault between contact wire-rail(C-F), and protect the electronics equipments(signalling and communication) that are facility the wayside. The role of protection wires must be feed back quickly the fault current to the substation when a short circuit fault occurs. In this paper, we proposed that only one line to install the protection wire. Comparing how to newly proposed and existing system, most of the performance is similar. The reason is that most of the current flowing in the protection wire near the location where the fault occurred. There is no problem even if in one line for human safe and the low impedance of the return circuit in dimension to ensure the safety of the facility during the fault. To ensure safety during an fault occurs, it is sufficient even by one line. But, In the protection wire of facilities planning it is necessary to design taking into account the potential utility.
Overhead transmission lines are completely exposed to the environment. This causes faults in transmission lines due to natural environmental conditions. In some cases, transmission towers are damaged by typhoons and snow, as well as sleet on the transmission lines. It takes a lot of time to repair the damaged towers. For emergency restoration purposes, steel poles are installed to temporarily supply power. Before 2003, emergency restoration steel poles were made of angled steel, which required a large number of beams, bolts, etc. In addition, the foundation of the steel pole and ground wire was constructed using excavation and burial methods, therefore it required a lot of manpower and time to construct temporary transmission lines. In September 2003, typhoon Maemi, whose maximum wind speed was 60m/s, hit Korea. 'Maemi' destroyed transmission lines in the Busan and Geojea area, causing long blackouts. To reduce the recovery time to the damaged transmission lines, self-build based emergency towers were developed. self-build based emergency towers reduced recovery time from 24 hours to 4 hours or less. However, the self-build based emergency tower had no arms, so the temporary transmission lines could only be constructed without curves in line routes. In this paper, solving these self-build based emergency tower limitations, using insulated arms(designed for use with the self-build based emergency tower), shall be explained.
This paper dealt with the design, fabrication and application of a risk voltage measurement system (RVMS) which analyzes the step and touch voltages in electrical grounding systems. The RVMS supply 300 V and 1.4 A in ranges from 40 Hz to 1 kHz as the test power source. A DAQ module having resolution of 400 kS/s and 16 bit is equipped with 7 inputs for measuring voltage and current. Also, a noise elimination algorithm of digital filter was applied to reduce the measurement error caused by external noises as a commercial frequency current. The performance of the RVMS was evaluated by measurement of the step and touch voltage according to the IEEE standard 80 and 81 in a grounding system with a 10 m counterpoise. The result showed that the RVMS analyzes the risk voltage with the error below 5%.
Recently, interest in environmentally friendly transportation systems has been increasing, and study on railway systems has been aggressively conducted. Therefore, lots of studies have been done in railway advanced countries to improve performance of PWM converter. The research on the PWM converter for railway vehicle was mainly carried out on the converter mounted on railway vehicle such as the high-speed railway and metropolitan railway. In also, a lot of study has been carried out to improve converter performance installed in the ground. The high-capacity transform used in this paper converted from AC 22.9kV to AC 590V. The converter changed from AC 590V to DC 950V. In general, in the case of rectifier, the DC power supply system has a negative impact on inverter control characteristics because it can not avoid the pulsating component. In this study, it was performed current control for high-capacity converter using Matlab Simulink. The PWM converter is normally performed through the voltage and current at starting mode, powering mode, and braking mode. In the light-load test and the on-line test, we have studied for the PWM converter characteristics. Using this research, we have founded that the converter has excellent performance.
