  • Background: X-ray imaging detectors for the nondestructive cargo container inspection using MeV-energy X-rays should accurately portray the internal structure of the irradiated container. Internal and external factors can cause noise, affecting image quality, and scattered radiation is the greatest source of noise. To obtain a high-performance transmission image, the influence of scattered radiation must be minimized, and this can be accomplished through several methods. The scatter rejection method using an anti-scatter grid is the preferred method to reduce the impact of scattered radiation. In this paper, we present an evaluation the characteristics of the signal and noise according to physical and material changes in the anti-scatter grid of the imaging detector used in cargo container scanners. Materials and Methods: We evaluated the characteristics of the signal and noise according to changes in the grid ratio and the material of the anti-scatter grid in an X-ray image detector using MCNP6. The grid was composed of iron, lead, or tungsten, and the grid ratio was set to 2.5, 12.5, 25, or 37.5. X-ray spectrum sources for simulation were generated by 6- and 9-MeV electron impacts on the tungsten target using MCNP6. The object in the simulation was designed using metallic material of various thicknesses inside the steel container. Using the results of the computational simulation, we calculated the change in the scatter-to-primary ratio and the signal-to-noise ratio improvement factor according to the grid ratio and the grid material, respectively. Results and Discussion: Changing the grid ratios of the anti-scatter grid and the grid material decreased the scatter linearly, affecting the signal-to-noise ratio. Conclusion: The grid ratio and material of the anti-scatter grid affected the response characteristics of a container scanner using high-energy X-rays, but to a minimal extent; thus, it may not be practically effective to incorporate anti-scatter grids into container scanners.

  • When unattenuated x-ray radiation passes through the object it is transmitted and scattered from objectes and impinging on the film. During this process certain radiation is absorbed within the object and others transmitted in reduced scattering. The scattering radiation influence upon radiation image quality, confining x-ray beam which means scattering radiation produce increased fog on x-ray film image and as a consequence decrease contrast and less detail of the film there for the elimination of fog and for absorbing scattered radiation, the grid has been used between the object and the film in order to rid of scattering rays. Using grid is good method for the qualification of the better image as well as in using air gap technique. The grid is easy to manipulate and promote good efficiency which is defined by ICRU and JIS. It is the purpose to study for eliminating scattered radiation from the tissue equivalent acryl phantom using grid, we have studied and evaluated the grid permeability about the x-ray exposure, the selection of grid ratio according to phantom thickness, on x-ray exposure are performed as follows. 1. The penetrating ratio of primary x-ray is remarkably decreased by increasing of the grid ratio, but it is almost not influenced in KVP difference and phantom thickness. 2. The scattered radiation is proportionaly increased by thickness of the phantom, having nothing to do with grid ratios. 3. The relative between the penetration rate of primary and secondary x-ray is improved by increasing grid ratio, and decreased by phantom thickness, and slightly decreased by high tube voltage. 4. The grid of 5:1 and 10:1 ratio are adequate to the phantom of 10cm and 15cm thickness, respectively.

  • Grids can improve the diagnostic quality of chest radiography by trapping the greater part of scattered radiation thus providing more detailed. chest radiographic images. It is most effective mathod of reduce the scatter ratio but must increase the expour factor. The benefit of use of grid is improve the contrast and the loss is increase of patient dose. In chest radiography especially hard quality high voltage radiography it will have to be considered to select the optimum grid with view point of benefit and loss. In this experiment, author got some result of characteristics about 4 different grids with film method. 1. There was no difference the scatter ratio in case of no grid and the scatter ratio was about 60%. 2. 16 : 1 grid was excellent of scatter reduction factor in high voltage chest radiography, next was 10 : 1, CROSS, MICRO FINE grid have low scatter reduction rate compare to 16:1, 10:1 grid. 3. The bucky factor of CROSS grid in accordance of kVp was find out the highest in 4 grids, on the contraly 10 : 1 grid was profitable to the exposure does. 4. With careful consideration in the point of scatter reducion rate and bucky factor, author suggest the 10 : 1 linear grid on the use of chest radiography in $80{\sim}120\;kVp$, 16 : 1 grid in $120{\sim}140\;kVp$.

  • With the introduction of the D.R system, the grid with high removal rate of scattered radiation is selected and used without considering the grid performance evaluation. Despite the high removal rate of scattered radiation belonging to high grid ratio, it is also possible to see the cut-off phenomenon in which the primary ray involved in the formation of image could be removed as well. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for researches on the usefulness of using the grid by presenting the appropriate grid ratio in the D.R system through the measurement of image in grid such as non-grid, 6:1, 8:1, 10:1, 12:1. The equipments used for this study were radiation generator with grid in 12:1, 10:1, 8:1, 6:1, indirect-type detector, and acryl phantom. As the study for image evaluation, this study measured the SNR, PSNR, MSE, and Entropy. In the results of this study, the PSNR was the highest in 6:1 and the lowest in 8:1. The SNR was high in 6:1 and 8:1, and the lowest in 12:1. In case of Entropy, it was high in 8:1 and 10:1, and the lowest in 12:1. Therefore, when the grid is used, it would be more proper to choose the grid in 8:1 or 10:1 with less loss in information content of primary ray rather than the high grid ratio showing the increased patient exposure dose.

  • It is well recognized that improving capacity of positive grid in battery is one of key factors for controlling the expected long lift-time of Battery Energy Storage System(B.E.S.S). Thus it is really important to characterized material properties of positive grid which are mainly affected by fabrication process. In this study, two kinds of positive grids, which were fabricated by gravity casting and die-casting technique were used. Micro-structural observation and tensile test were conducted to investigate the effect of fabrication process of positive grid. Ultrasonic measurement based on pulse-echo method and ultrasonic C-scan technique also performed to correlate ultrasonic velocity with porosity ratio in positive grid. It was found that the porosity ratio of grid fabricated by gravity casting technique increased significantly compared to the grid fabricated by die-casting technique. It was also shown that ulrasonic technique is effective to evaluate the porosity ratio in positive grid.

  • This study attempts to propose an appropriate method of using digital medical imaging equipments, by studying the effects of automatic exposure control(AEC), grid ratio and the change of radiography distance on the patient dose and detertor acquisition dose during the procedure of acquiring image through a digital medical imaging detector. The change of dose following the change of grid ratio's exposure and radiography distance was measured, by using an abdominal phantom organized with tissue equivalent materials in an amorphous silicon thin film transistor detecter installed with AWC. The case to use grid ratio 12 : 1, focal distance 180cm to radiography distance 110cm in AEC, the patient dose increased rather when we used grid ration 10 : 1, focal distance 110cm. When AEC was not used, the dose necessary for image acquisition decreased as the grid ratio became higher and the distance became further. but detector acquisition dose was not reduced when in applied AEC. When purchasing digiral medical imaging equipments, optional items such as AEC and grid shall be accurately selected to satisfy the use of the equipments. Radiography error made by radiation technologist and unnenessary patient dose can be reduced by selecting equipments with a radiography distance marker equipment when it did not apply AEC. These equipments can also be helpful in maintaining high imaging quality, one of the merits of digital detectors.

  • This paper introduces a simple grid-voltage-sensorless control scheme for single-phase power factor correction (PFC) boost converters. The grid voltage waveform is obtained based on the dc output voltage, the switching duty ratio, and a phase-lead compensator. In addition, the duty ratio feedback is utilized to obtain the unity input power factor and the zero harmonic current. The proposed control scheme is designed and mathematically analyzed based on a small-signal model of PFC boost converters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, several simulations and experiments are carried out in two applications: an industrial power system with a 60 Hz grid frequency and a commercial aircraft application with a 400 Hz grid frequency.

  • Purpose: This paper proposes a density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model to reduce the computation time for large datasets without significant prediction accuracy loss. Methods: The proposed method utilizes the concept of the grid with centroid to reduce the number of reference data points so that the required computation time is much reduced. Since the grid generation process in this paper is based on quantiles of original variables, the proposed method can fully reflect the density information of the original reference data set. Results: Using five real-life datasets, the proposed k-NN regression model is compared with the original k-NN regression model. The results show that the proposed density adaptive grid-based k-NN regression model is superior to the original k-NN regression in terms of data reduction ratio and time efficiency ratio, and provides a similar prediction error if the appropriate number of grids is selected. Conclusion: The proposed density adaptive grid algorithm for the k-NN regression model is a simple and effective model which can help avoid a large loss of prediction accuracy with faster execution speed and fewer memory requirements during the testing phase.
