  • Smart-farm has been spreading across Korea to improve the labor efficiency and productivity of greenhouse crops. Although notable improvements have been made in the monitoring technologies and environmental-controlling systems in greenhouses, only a few simple decision-support systems are available for predicting the optimum environmental conditions for crop growth. In this study, a tomato growth model (GreenTom), which was developed by Seoul National University in 1997, was calibrated and validated to examine if the model can be used as a decision-supporting system. The original GreenTom model was not able to simulate artificial defoliation, which resulted in overestimation of the leaf area index in the late growth. Thus, an algorithm for simulating the artificial defoliation was developed and added to the original model. The node development, leaf growth, stem growth, fruit growth, and leaf area index were generally well simulated by the modified model indicating that the model could be used effectively in the decision-making of smart greenhouse.

  • The paper presents the future transportation policy based on the smart highway project in korea. The backgrounds and the principal findings in this study were obtained through domestic and overseas literature surveys. The domestic and overseas transportation policies were also compared and analyzed using various case studies. As a result, the future transportation policy in Korea was concluded within the limit conducted in this paper. Research results demonstrated that the future transportation policy should be reflected and accompanied by various social developments. The social benefits from the future transportation policy should also be distribute equally to social individuals, rather than small limited groups. That is, the recent global slogan of green growth is an example of a future transportation policy since it is for all social individuals, not for a limited small group.

  • In this study, the trend in green technology was observed and the domain of the green technology area that will be actively studied in the future was found by establishing knowledge map in green technology area and comparing and analyzing green technology information in Korea and overseas in time series. For the purpose of this study, network analysis was conducted for the keyword of green technology information provided by green technology information portal site (www.gtnet.go.kr) operated by Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information. Network analysis was conducted using keyword, and change of study subject was found by dividing the analysis result into periods. In the result of network analysis on top 100 keywords from total English keyword, it was found that renewable energy related areas such as solar energy and biomass had high centrality. When the main keyword trend by year was studied, centrality of solar cell, nanotechnology, smart grid, and fuel cell were found to increase, showing that research and development in generation and use of renewable energy are actively made.

  • Thermal environment of city is getting worse due to severe urban heat island caused by climate change and urbanization. Green roof improves the urban thermal environment and save the cooling energy in buildings. This study presented a green roof combined with a storage system that stores rain-water and supplies water through a wick and evaluated the temperature reduction effect as surface temperature and amount of evapotranspiration. For about a week, the surface temperature using a infrared thermal imager and the evapotranspiration by recording change of module weight were measured at intervals of 30 minutes from sunrise to sunset. The results show that the mean surface temperature of the green roof was 15.4 degrees lower than that of the non-green roof from 12:00 P.M. to 14:00 P.M. There was no significant difference between mean surface temperature of green roof with and without storage system immediately after rain, but more than a week after rain, there was a difference with average of 2.49 degrees and maximum of 4.72 degrees. The difference in daily amount of evapotranspiration was measured to be 1.66 times on average. As drought stress increased over time, the difference in daily amount of evapotranspiration and surface temperature between with/without storage system increased simultaneously. The results of the study show a more excellent cooling effect of green roof combined with the rainwater storage system.

  • Green cloud computing refers to the green ambient benefits that information technology services delivered over the Internet can offer for the society. The green meaning environment friendly and cloud computing is a traditional symbol for the Internet and a type of service provider. Cloud computing has drastically increased the number of datacenters and the energy consumption of data centers and that has become a critical issue which is extremely important in green ambience. These days the cloud data center needs high energy resources that leads to high operational cost and also maximizes CO2 - carbon footprint that pollutes the ambience which is not to be considered as green ambience. So we need to provide a way that leads us to green ambience. Cloud computing for the green ambience should be designed in a way which will utilize less energy resources and to minimize the CO2 -carbon footprint, known as green cloud. In this paper we discuss various elements of Clouds which contributes to minimize the total energy consumption and the carbon emission so as to enable green ambience through green cloud computing.

  • A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a device that can be obtained electricity from a variety of organic through the catalytic reaction of the microorganism. The MFC can be applied to various fields, and research is required to promote the performance of the microbial fuel cell for commercialization. The lower performance of an MFC is due to oxygen reduction at the cathode and the longer time of microbial degradation at anode. The MFC amount of power is sufficient but, in consideration of many factors, as a renewable energy, now commonly power density as compared to Nafion117 it is an ion exchange membrane used is PP (Poly Propylene) from 80 to about 11 fold higher, while reducing the cost to process wastewater is changed to a microporous non-woven fabric of a low cost, it may be energy-friendly environment to generate electricity. All waste, in that it can act as a bait for microorganisms, sustainability of the microbial fuel cell is limitless. The latest research on the optimization and performance of the operating parameters are surveyed and through the SSaM-GG(Smart, Shared, and Mutual- Green Growth) or GG-SSaM(Green Growth - Smart, Shared, and Mutual) as the concept of sustainable development in MFC, the middle indices are developed in this study.

  • Environmental concern has become the focus of various studies, academic research, company policies, and government policies. A business sector, which has seen a high level of urgency in environmental empowerment are small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These are an economic sector, which is imbedded in society and has become one of the largest economic sectors in Indonesia. Therefore, this study analyzes the relationship between green human resource management (GHRM), workplace green behavior (WGB) and green innovation (GI), and increasing firm performance (FP). This study is using quantitative research methods. The data is obtained through distributing questionnaires to 180 culinary SMEs employees from cafes and modern food restaurant in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Indonesia. The data is then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Smart-PLS. The results of this study show that GHRM has significant positive effect on workplace green behavior and firm performance, while workplace green behavior also has significant positive effect on green innovation and firm performance. In addition, green innovation has significant positive effect on firm performance. This study contributes to provide and extends the literature related to building green SMEs, which is empirically demonstrated to be able to improve company performance.

  • Recently, the environment contamination problem and energy saving are the social issues. So, the Green IT based Smart Grid was suggested. The smart grid will let rates fluctuate even more dynamically, depending on conditions using energy. Thus, green IT includes the dimensions of environmental sustainability and the economics of energy efficiency. The smart controller in which it is controlled by DR in order to manage the energy consumption by using AMI is needed in order to apply its technology to the real life. In this paper, DR_WTIM of the IEEE1451.5 base which has the DR function for connecting to AMI of the wireless base is developed. By using this apparatus for the power control system, the energy saving effect is shown. Moreover, by using the IEEE1451.5 technology, the problem of energy consumption is solved in order to apply to power controller designed for efficient use energy.
