  • An efficient screening method was developed for rapid selection of a few overproducers of itaconic acid (IA) among the great many mutants derived from mother strains of Aspergillus terreus. For this purpose, an attempt was made to reveal the relationships of the growth rate and sporulation of each mutant on PDA solid medium with its IA productivity in the final liquid production-culture. As a result, it was possible to classify the mutated strains into 5 groups (from [A] to [E] group) according to theirmorphologies (i.e., growth rate and sporulation extent) on the PDA slants. Notably, most of the high-yielding mutants of IA were observed to belong to [A]group which had the properties of the highest growth rate and sporulation among the 5 groups, whereas the mutant groups of [C], [D] and [E] with the contrasting morphological features showed significant reductions in their IA productivities. From these results, it was concluded that the probability of selecting IA overproducing mutants could be remarkably enhanced when the mutated colonies showing faster growth rates are firstly selected on the PDA plate, and then further screening process is performed on the basis of the sporulation extents of the mutants selected. Consequently, through the application of the strategy developed in this study, costs and time involvedin the labor-intensive task of strain improvement could be reduced to a great extent, because the time-consuming liquid culture processes did not need to performed for the unfavorable mutants belonging to the groups other than group [A].

  • Purpose: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapid progressive, life-threatening disease. Many organisms have been identified for causative pathogens of necrotizing fasciitis. And necrotizing fasciitis caused by Vibrio vulnificus is a matter of grace concern in Southwest seashore of Korea recently. But concrete analysis between these pathogens was not executed yet. Methods: Sixty necrotizing fasciitis patients were included in this study. We divided the patients into 2 groups: Group A was the case which Vibrio vulnificus was cultured for causative pathogen of necrotizing fasciitis, and Group B was the case of other organisms. And we analysed each group for treatment, progression and prognosis. Results: There was no significant difference between two groups in total hospital stay but there was a great difference in ICU stay and progression to septic shock. Also, there was a great difference in mortality within 48 hours but there was no difference in mortality of 48 hours after hospital visit. Conclusion: This indicates that intial management of necrotizing fasciitis cased by Vibrio vulnificus is the key of treatment. So initial medical management with early surgical intervention is necessary for necrotizing fasciitis.

  • Transition metal-based organometallic complexes have shown great talents as a catalyst in various reactions. Designing organic molecules and coordinating them to such active centers have been a promising route to control the catalytic natures. Metallocene, which has transition metal atoms sandwiched by aromatic rings, is one of the representative systems for organometallic catalysts. Group 4-based metallocene catalysts have been most commonly used for the production of polyolefins, which have great world-wide markets in the real life. Graphenes and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were composed of extended $sp^2$ carbon networks, showing high electron mobility as well as have extremely large steric bulkiness relative to metal centers. We were inspired by these characteristics of such carbon-based nano-materials and assumed that they could intimately interact with active centers of metallocene catalysts. We examined this hypothesis and, recently, reported that CNTs dramatically changed catalytic natures of group 4-based catalysts when they formed hybrid systems with such catalysts. In conclusion, we produced hybrid materials composed of group-4 based metallocenes, $Cp_2ZrCl_2$ and $Cp_2TiCl_2$, and carbon-based nano-materials such as RGO and MWCNT. Such hybrids were generated via simple adsorption between Cp rings of metallocenes and graphitic surfaces of graphene/CNT. The hybrids showed interesting catalytic behaviors for ethylene polymerizations. Resulting PEs had significantly increased Mw relative to those produced from free metallocene-based catalytic systems, which are not adsorbed on carbon-based nano-materials. UHMWPEs with extremely high Mw were obtained at low Tp.

  • The main purpose of this thesis was to provide a basis to investigate the effectiveness of regular exercises on basic physical fitness for middle school students. 40 second graders from a middle school were chosen randomly and divided into 4 groups-wrestling group, basketball group, jogging group, and control group. The first three groups have been trained 4 times per week for 18 weeks after class to be compared with the comparison group. Pre and post measurements of physical fitness of the subjects were processed by means of the SPSS program. The average and the standard deviation of the measurements of each group were covered with the ANOVA test, according to the periods and the types of training. Duncan's Multiple Range Test was performed to identify the significance of the relationship between training period and improvement in basic sports ability. The conclusions as follows; 1. In the 50 meter sprint, only the wrestling group showed statistical significance, while the other groups showed gradual progress in general. 2. In the standing long jump, there is no group that showed any improvement. 3. In the forward flexion of the trunk, no significance was to be found. 4. In 30-second sit-ups, the wrestling group showed statistical significance. The wrestling group made greater progress than the other groups, and the basketball group and the jogging group also showed rather great progress. 5. In push-ups, statistical significance was found in the groups of wrestling, basketball, and jogging. And the wrestling group came in first, the basketball group second, and the jogging group third on the progress level. 6. In the distance run, the jogging group showed statistical significance and the jogging group made considerable progress. Steady improvement was to be found in the groups of wrestling and basketball.

  • This paper analyzes that the global positioning system (GPS) receiver differential code bias (DCB) has effect on the estimation the ionosphere total electron content (TEC). The data from nine permanent GPS sites of the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) were used for the estimation of the receiver DCB before (Trimble 4000 SSi) and after (Trimble NetRS) the receiver replacement, using the singular value decomposition method. The results showed that the estimated mean value of the receiver DCB varied from 0.11 ns (nanosecond) to 7.54 ns before the receiver replacement, but the receiver DCBs shoed large values than 20 ns except some stations after the replacement. The receiver DCB showed a relatively large difference by types of the receivers, and, as a result, it had a great effect on the estimation the ionosphere TEC using GPS.

  • The two correlation times previously obtained in our coupled $^{13}C$ relaxation measurement for the methyl group in 2,6-dichlorotoluene may be used as a criterion for evaluating the reorientation dynamics of an internal rotor. We numerically tested an extended diffusion model and the Smoluchowski diffusion equation to see how the rotational inertial effect and jump character contribute to the internal correlation time ratio of the internal rotor. We also analytically solved the general jump model with three different rate constants in a sixfold symmetric potential barrier. By assuming that the internal rotation of the methyl group in 2,6-dichlorotoluene can be described in terms of jumps among sixfold harmonic potential wells, we can conclude that the jump model satisfactorily reproduce the experimental data and the rate for sixfold jump is at least 1.53 times as great as that of a threefold jump.

  • The Indian Oak Tasar silkworm, Antheraea proylei J. is a beneficial insect with great economic importance in India for its silk production. In this study, six populations of Antheraea proylei and A. frithi Moore (as an out group) were subjected to inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) marker analysis in order to assess its genetic diversity. Fifteen ISSR primers produced 91 markers among different breeds of A. proylei and A. frithi of which 89 are polymorphic, generating 97.8% polymorphism. The dendrogram constructed using the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) and cluster analysis made using Nei's genetic distance resulted in the formation of one major group containing four sub-groups separating the breeds. This result suggests that ISSR amplification is potentially useful for molecular characterization of oak tasar silkworm genotypes.

  • A great many species of fish congregate in schools, reducing the risk of being eaten by predators and giving one of the considerable survival advantages for fishes. Such a fish school is self-organized only due to individual behaviors for matching the speed and direction with the neighboring fishes. It is interesting to simulate these fish school by small robots, because we can understand how the group structure emerges from the interaction among neighboring individuals. We use a nice simulator for Khepera robot presented by Oliver Michel. It is shown that the Khepera simulator is easily applied to fish school due to the algorithm introduced by I Aoki. The simulator includes sensor noise so appropriately that the simulator can be transferred easily to the real environment. The results of simulation are given as follows: (1) The stability as a group is shown by plotting mean deviations from the center of group ...
