  • A simulated wastewater containing the dye Rhodamine B (RhB) was electrolytically treated using a three-dimensional electrode reactor equipped with granular activated carbon (GAC) as particle electrode. The effect of type of packing material (GAC, ACF, Nonwoven fabric fiber coated with activated carbon), amounts of GAC packing (25-100 g), current (0.5-3 A) and electrolyte concentration (0.5-3 g/l) was evaluated. Experimental results showed that performance for RhB decolorization of the 3 three-dimensional electrodes lie in: GAC > Nonwoven fabric fiber > ACF. When considered RhB decolorization, oxidants concentration and electric power, optimum GAC dosage was 50 g. Generated concentration of 3 oxidants ($ClO_2$, free Cl, $H_2O_2$) was increased with increase of applied current, however optimum current for RhB degradation was 2.5 A. The oxidants concentration was increased with increase of NaCl concentration and optimum NaCl dosage for RhB degradation was 1.5 g/l.

  • Increased temperature adversely affects the reliability of a device. So, package material should have high thermal diffusion, i.e., high thermal conductivity. And, there are several other physical properties of polymeric materials that are important to microelectronics packaging, some of which are a low dielectric constant, a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and a high flexural strength. In this study, to get practical maximum packing fraction of AIN (granular type) filled EMC, the properties such as the spiral flow, thermal conductivity, CTE, and water resistance of AIN-filled EMC (65-vol%) were evaluated according to the size of AIN and the filler-size distribution. Also, physical properties of AIN filled EMC above 65-vol% were evaluated according to increasing AIN content at the point of maximum packing fraction (highly loading condition). The high loading conditions of EMC were set $D_L/D_S$=12 and $X_S$=0.25 like as filler of sphere shape and the AIN filled EMC in this conditions can be obtained satisfactory fluidity up to 70-vol%. As a result, the AIN filled EMC (70-vol%) at high loading condition showed improved thermal conductivity (about 6 W/m-K), dielectric constant (2.0~3.0), CTE(less than 14 ppm/$^{\circ}C$) and water resistance. So, the AIN filled EMC (70-vol%) at high loading condition meets the requirement fur advanced microelectronic packaging materials.

  • Through baking process on an interlayer, known as hole transporting layer, varying baking temperature up to 300 degree, which is considered as extremely high for polymer light emitting device (PLED) system, we found interesting relationship between packing density and morphology affecting device performance. Granular morphology shows that as temperature increases, grain size is getting smaller to pack closely and make interlayer harden. Such denser interlayer has temperature dependency of its own mobility, even without clear evidence of degradation of material itself. Its fact proven in a single film also reflects on multilayered PLED's performance like IVL, efficiency, lifetime. It's found that, especially, to enhance lifetime is related with thermal stability of interlayer and its mobility dependency to meet better charge balance. Therefore, it gives us understanding not only baking effect of interlayer, but also material & device designing guide to enhance lifetime.

  • A first systematic approach on new and simple preparation method of spherical granules in the system using organic granulating solution was carried out. Mixer granulation required narrow range of moisture content but gentle action of tumbling in the mixer and capilary forces were adequate to compact the porous mass and also were highly effective to produce granules close to sphere. Where the granules by massing and screening provided the more open structure, its pore distribution lied between 71 and 16 .mu.m by above 50% and on the contrary, that of the mixer granulated granules showed only below 25%. Increase in retention time in the mixer decreased the intragranular porosity of granules produced, and in comparison with granular particles produced by conventional wet granulation, those from the mixer granulation had the advantages of flow properties, packing characteristics and definite spherocity. They also had extremely low friability resulting in few fines.

  • Storm runoff from road contains significant loads of particulate and dissolved solids, organic constituents and metal elements. Micro particle is important when considering pollution mitigation because pollutant metal and organics have similar behavior with particles. The objective of this research is to evaluate the hydrodynamic filter separator performance for road storm runoff treatment. A various types of media such as perlite, granular activated carbon, zeolite were used for column test packing media and filter separator, and to determine the removal efficiency with various surface loading rate. As the results of column test, the highest SS removal efficiency was using mixed media(granular activated carbon, zeolite and perlite), and granular activated carbon mixed with zeolite has higher heavy metal removal efficiency than perlite. In laboratory scale hydrodynamic filter separator study, the operation ranges of surface loading rates were from 192 to 1,469 $m^3/m^2/day$. The estimated overall removal efficiencies of hydrodynamic filter separator for typical storm runoff were SS 48.1%, BOD 31.9%, COD 32.6%, TN 15.5%, and TP 17.3%, respectively. For the case of heavy metals, overall removal efficiencies were Fe 26.0%, Cu 19.4%, Cr 25.7, Zn 16.6%, and Pb 15.0%, respectively. The most appropriate medium for hydrodynamic filter separator was perlite mixed with granular activated carbon to treatment of road storm runoff.

  • We demonstrate here that an improvement in precursor film density (green density) leads to a great enhancement in the photovoltaic performance of CuInSe2 (CISe) thin film solar cells fabricated with Cu-In nanoparticle precursor films via chemical solution deposition. A cold-isostatic pressing (CIP) technique was applied to uniformly compress the precursor film over the entire surface (measuring 3~4 cm2) and was found to increase its relative density (particle packing density) by ca. 20%, which resulted in an appreciable improvement in the microstructural features of the sintered CISe film in terms of lower porosity, reduced grain boundaries, and a more uniform surface morphology. The low-bandgap (Eg=1.0 eV) CISe PV devices with the CIP-treated film exhibited greatly enhanced open-circuit voltage (VOC, from 0.265 V to 0.413 V) and fill factor (FF, from 0.34 to 0.55), as compared to the control devices. As a consequence, an almost 3-fold increase in the average power conversion efficiency, 3.0 to 8.2% (with the highest value of 9.02%), was realized without an anti-reflection coating. A diode analysis revealed that the enhanced VOC and FF were essentially attributed to the reduced reverse saturation current density (j0) and diode ideality factor (n). This is associated with the suppressed recombination, likely due to the reduction in recombination sites such as grain/air surfaces (pores), inter-granular interfaces, and defective CISe/CdS junctions in the CIP-treated device. From the temperature dependences of VOC, it was confirmed that the CIP-treated devices suffer less from interface recombination.

  • In this study,we conducted an injection molding analysis of metal powder materials for the development of flanges, which are necessary adapters for optical communication. The metal powder injection molding process is a technique for producing an injection molded article having a complicated shape by mixing ceramic or stainless powder and binders. It is used to produce products which require complex processing technology or for which the productivity is low. The purpose of this study is to minimize the manufacturing processing of products which are manufactured through existing mechanical processing procedures. For the injection molding analysis, we mixed stainless STS316 metal powder with binders at a ratio of 6 to 4 to make molding materials consisting of granular pellets. Then, three-dimensional modeling and meshing were carried out to obtain the optimal injection molding analysis conditions(molding temperature, melting temperature, injection time, injection temperature, injection pressure, packing time and cooling time). As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the inlet became available 13.29 seconds after the first injection. Also, as the flowing and packing in the melt through the sprue, runner and gate were stable, it is expected that good molds can be manufactured.

  • Transient behavior of biofilter/photo-catalytic reactor system was observed to eliminate both hydrogen sulfide and toluene from waste air at its four sampling ports. The biofilter was packed with a equivolume mixture of granular activated carbon(GAC) and compost as packing media on which Thiobacillus sp. IW and Burkholderia cepacia G4 were inoculated and were fixed. The biofilter/photo-catalytic reactor system was run for eight stages of operation under various operating conditions. As a result the removal efficiencies of hydrogen sulfide and toluene began to decrease from 100% after the inlet loads of hydrogen sulfide and toluene surpassed ca. 100 $S-g/m^{3}/h$ and $161g/m^{3}/h$, respectively, and were rapidly decreased to 60% after the inlet loads of hydrogen sulfide and toluene were increased to 200 $S-g/m^{3}/h$ and $644g/m^{3}/h$, respectively.
