  • This study aims to analyze the multicultural content of the Korean Elementary School Textbook revised in 2015. This study abstracted the framework of multicultural factors for analysis of multicultural contents from the research on "Revision Guidelines by Analysis of Multicultural Factors in Secondary Curriculum and Textbook". The analyzed textbook is the integrated winter textbooks for both the first and second grades revised curriculum in 2015. Several findings were represented as follows: first, the frequency of multicultural content displayed five times in first grade and nineteen times in second grade respectively. Second, the analyzed textbooks did not include contents directly associated with multiculturalism. Activities and experience is important in the acceptance of unfamiliar cultures Thus, multicultural contents' frequency of within textbooks is very crucial. Finally, the revised curriculum focused on activities and experiences about the theme and content in the textbook and was developed around block chassis. For teaching the textbook content, teachers must perfectly understand textbooks through teacher training. The textbooks of reflecting right values on multiculturalismIn. this respect, elementary school curriculum and textbook content should be improved by supplementary revision fitting for the growth of humanity in the multicultural era.

  • Objective : Hydrocephalus is one of the major complications following spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). However, the risk factors of the hydrocephalus after SAH are not still well known. This study was focused on verification of the causal relationships between the development of hydrocephalus and SAH. Methods : The patients who developed hydrocephalus after rupture of aneurysms were studied. To obtain prognostic factors regarding to hydrocephalus, several parameters such as age, sex, hypertension, location of aneurysm, existence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), Glasgow coma scale (GCS), Hunt-Hess SAH classification & Fisher Grade on admission and the ratio of frontal harn of lateral ventricle diameter to skull inner table diameter at this level (FH/ID) were studied retrospectively. Results : The development of hydrocephalus following SAH is multifactorial. The age, IVH, FH/ID ratio were related to hydrocephalus in analysis. There is a low clinical correlation between sex, hypertension, location of aneurysm, existence of ICH, GCS, Hunt-Hess SAH classification, Fisher Grade on admission and hydrocephalus. Conclusion : Knowledge on risk factors related to the occurrence of hydrocephalus may help guide neurosurgeons in the long-term care of patients who have experienced aneurysmal SAH.

  • Radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis are major complications for patients with cervical carcinoma following radiotherapy. In the present study, we aimed to determine the potential risk factors for the development of radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis after irradiation. A total of 1,518 patients with cervical carcinoma received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) followed by high-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy (HDRICB) in our hospital. The incidences of radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis were recorded and associations with different factors (age, time period, tumor stage) were analyzed with ${\chi}^2$ (chi-squared) and Fisher exact tests. We found that 161 and 94 patients with cervical carcinoma were diagnosed with radiation proctitis and radiation cystitis, respectively, following radiotherapy. The prevalence of Grade I-II radiation proctitis or radiation cystitis was significantly lower than that of Grade III (radiation proctitis: 3.82% vs. 6.76%, P < 0.05; radiation cystitis: 2.31% vs. 3.87%, P < 0.05) and was significantly enhanced in patients with late stage (IIIb) tumor progression compared to those in early stage (Ib, IIa) (P < 0.05). Moreover, the incidence of radiation proctitis and cystitis was not correlated with age or, time period following radiation, for each patient (P > 0.05). These observations indicate that a late stage of tumor progression is a potential risk factor for the incidence of radiation proctitis and cystitis in cervical carcinoma patients receiving radiotherapy.

  • Background: To determine rates of residual disease along with influencing factors in women with stage IA to IB1 cervical carcinoma after conization. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of medical records of 198 stage IA to IB1 cervical carcinoma patients who had undergoing cervical conization followed by primary surgical treatment during 2006-2013. Independent factors correlating with residual carcinoma in subsequent surgical specimens were analyzed by stepwise regression analysis. Results: Mean age was 48.9 years. Cone specimens demonstrated free margins in 36 women (18.8%). In case of having disease at margin, high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and carcinoma were evidenced in 58 and 97 women, respectively. Pathology of subsequent specimens revealed residual carcinoma in 78 women (39.4%), high-grade CIN or adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) in 45 (22.7%), and no residual pathology in 75 (37.9%). Age more than 35 years, postmenopausal status, having symptoms, diseases or invasive lesions at conization margins or disease on endocervical aspect, and higher stage were significantly correlated with residual cancer in surgical treatment specimens. On regression analysis, postmenopause and stage were independent factors associated with residual carcinoma. Conclusions: Patient and tumor characteristics are predictive factors for residual cancer in the studied group of women.

  • Objectives : This study was performed in order to investigate the effectiveness of electroneuronography as predicting factors for peripheral facial palsy prognosis. Methods : Data were gathered with 32 Bell's palsy patients. The grade of Bell's palsy were measured 2 times; first medical exam and 4 weeks after treatment, with Lucille Daniels's Muscle test. We converted the grade system use on five rating scale. The significance of treatment verified with paired t-test used on first medical exam and 4 weeks after treatment score and predicting factors of electroneuronography verified with simple regression test. Results : The improvement score were statistically significant different before and after treatment(p<.001). Mean axonal loss according to electroneuronography showed a statistically significant correlation in predicting peripheral facial palsy (P<0.01). Conclusion : Axonal loss as determined by electroneuronography has statistical significance as predicting factors for peripheral facial palsy prognosis.

  • This study examined the effects of peer relationships, depression, and aggression on bullying and victimization among boys and girls. The subjects were 364 3rd grade students (boys, 218; girls, 146) and 368 6th grade students (boys, 186; girls, 182), that is, a total of 732 students from three elementary schools. Data were collected on bullying, victimization, peer relationships (mutual friendship, mutual antipathy, and peer popularity), depression, and aggression (overt aggression and relationship aggression) from July 12, 2012 to July 13, 2012. These data were analyzed by means of a chi-squared analysis, t-test, and a logistic regression analysis. The results revealed that there were differences by sex in the case of direct bullying and victimization but no differences in the case of indirect bullying and victimization. Among boys, the factors influencing direct bullying were depression and overt aggression, and the factor influencing direct/indirect victimization was depression. Among girls, the factors influencing direct bullying were mutual antipathy relations and relational aggression, the factors influencing indirect victimization were mutual antipathy relations and peer popularity, the factor influencing indirect bullying was mutual antipathy relations, and the factor influencing indirect victimization was peer popularity. The results of this study showed that the factors influencing bullying and victimization are differences in sex. Finally, the implications and methodology for developing bullying prevention education programs were discussed.

  • Purpose: This study examined the factors that affect suicidal ideation among Korean adolescents according to their family type. Methods: The data of the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey was used in this study. Out of 62,276, a total of 60,077 adolescents (51,367 adolescents from two-parent families and 8,710 adolescents from single-parent families) were included in the analysis. Results: This study demonstrated that the level of suicidal ideation of the adolescents in single-parent families was significantly higher than that of the adolescents in two-parent families. The factors that affect suicidal ideation among the two-parent family adolescents were gender, grade, economic status, academic performance, smoking, drinking, physical activity, subjective health status, subjective body image, subjective happiness, stress, and depression. The factors that affect suicidal ideation among the single-parent family adolescents included gender, grade, smoking, subjective health status, subjective happiness, stress and depression. Conclusion: Single-parent family adolescents are likely to have a higher level of suicidal ideation along with higher levels of depression and stress and lower levels of subjective health and happiness, compared to single-parent family adolescents. For this higher-risk group of suicidal ideation, more thoughtful attentions and proactive policies are needed to manage their mental health and stress in school and family situations.
