  • To extend the potential benefits of error, the current study examined factors that affect students' error perception in the classroom. An experimental design was used to measure relations of classroom goal structure, feedback, and social relationships on students' perception of error. A total of 316 fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade elementary students participated as part of their regular class curriculum. Self-reported questionnaires were administered to measure students' perception of errors and relationships with teacher and peers, and then students were manipulated by classroom goal structure and feedback. Multiple regression analysis results suggested that students' perception of learning from error was affected mostly by relationships with peers, followed by relationships with teacher and the type of feedback. Students' perception of risk taking for error was also affected by relationships with peers and teacher, followed by the classroom goal structure. However, classroom goal structure and feedback did not affect their perception of thinking about error to improve their learning as well as error strain. These results imply how the classroom climate should be structured to improve perception of errors to improve student's learning.

  • The rescue methods for the marine casualties are limited due to the characteristics of operation environment of the vessel. Especially the most of marine accidents have been occurred at the bow structure of ship. Moreover the failure of bow structure may lead to catastrophic mishaps. In this paper, the extents of damage of a bow structure fracture subject to collision accident was investigated by using numerical method. The computer simulation approach by using Finite Element Method was employed to accomplish this goal. A finite element model, a 3D model of ship, has been utilized to evaluate damage of bow structure according to collision scenario. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that the plastic deformation occurred at the bow structure. Also it was shown that the collision angle clearly plays a role in determining amount of damage of ship structures.

  • In the fabrication of dry adhesive structure, increasing contact-points or contact-area is the primary goal because the adhesive force grows in proportion to the contact-area. The simplest way to extend the contact surface is the fabrication by using soft materials. However, the column-array structure could confront the matting phenomenon which columns are stuck together. Therefore, we need a novel design to reduce the effective stiffness with adequate stiff materials like a gecko's setae. In this study, we propose a novel design for the dry adhesive structure. Moreover, we analyzed whether the adhesive structure conforms the rough surface sufficiently through finite element method adopted the non-bonding interaction as the body force. Also, we fabricated the novel structures via UV lithography and some techniques. In addition, we examined the adhesive force of the novel structures.

  • The main goal of this study is on developing a proper brand-new data of national base map and Data Based(DB) model for new information technology environments. To achieve this goal, we generated a brand-new Hybrid spatial information model which is specialized in the spatio-temporal map structure, the framework map for information integration, and the multiple-layered topology structure. The DB structure was designed to reflect the change of objections by adding a new dimension of 'time' in the spartial information, while the infrastructure was able to connect/converge with other information by giving the unique ID and multi-scale fusion map structure. Furthermore, the topology and multi visualization structure, including indoor and basement information, were designed to overcome limitations of expressing in 2 dimension map. The result from the performance test, which was based on the Hybrid spatial information model, confirms the possibility in advanced national base map and conducted DB model through implementing various information and spatiotemporal connections.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the teacher's discourse structure in the process of solving mathematics problems based on the communication between teachers and students. To achieve this goal, we observed a semester class by a teacher with experience who practiced a teaching method that creates mathematical meanings based on students' participation in class. In order to solve problems based on the participation of students in each class, the similarities between the processes of creating the structure of the discourse were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the teacher was able to focus on the goal in the process of starting a discourse, and in the process of developing the discourse, the problem was solved by focusing on understanding the problem. In the process of arranging the discourse, the problem-solving process and the core of the result is summarized. Based on the possibility of generalization of the teacher discourse structure, it will be able to provide practical help in the process of implementing a teaching method that solves mathematics problems by communicating with students in the future.

  • The discovery of biochemical and cellular functions of unannotated gene products begins with a database search of proteins with structure/sequence homologues based on known genes. Very recently, a number of frontier groups in structural biology proposed a new paradigm to predict biological functions of an unknown protein on the basis of its three-dimensional structure on a genomic scale. Structural proteomics (genomics), a research area for structure-based functional discovery, aims to complete the protein-folding universe of all gene products in a cell. It would lead us to a complete understanding of a living organism from protein structure. Two major complementary experimental techniques, X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy, combined with recently developed high throughput methods have played a central role in structural proteomics research; however, an integration of these methodologies together with comparative modeling and electron microscopy would speed up the goal for completing a full dictionary of protein folding space in the near future.

  • We view Weyl structures as generalizations of Riemannian metrics and study the critical points of geometric functional which involve scalar curvature, defined on the space of Weyl structures on a closed 4-manifold. The main goal here is to provide a framework to analyze critical Weyl structures by defining functionals, discussing function spaces and writing down basic formulas for the equations of critical points.

  • Deep reasoning procedures are model-based, inferring single or multiple causes and/or timing relations from the knowledge of behavior of component models and their causal structure. The overall goal of this paper is to develop an automated deep reasoning methodology that exploits deep knowledge of structure and behavior of a system. We have proceeded by building a software environment that uses such knowledge to reason from advanced symbolic simulation techniques introduced by Chi and Zeigler. Such reasoning system has been implemented and tested on several examples in the domain of performance evaluation, and event-based control.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that realizes cooperative behavior by construction of autonomous mobile robot system. Each robot is able to sense other robots and obstacles, and it has the rule of behavior to achieve the goal of the system. In this paper, to improve performance of the whole system, we use Genetic Programming based on Natural Selection. Genetic Programming's chromosome is a program of tree structure and it's major operators are crossover and mutation. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme from the several examples.

  • In this paper, multiphase dynamic optimization of machine structure is presented. The final goal is to obtain ( i ) light weight, and ( ii ) rigidity statically and dynamically. The entire optimization process is carried out in two steps. In the first step, multiple optimization problem with two objective functions is treated using Pareto genetic algorithm. Two objective functions are weight of the structure, and static compliance. In the second step, maximum receptance is minimized using genetic algorithm. The method is applied to a simplified milling machine.
