  • This study examined the relative effect of participative and assigned goal-setting on team performance quantity and trend. Participants were 30 college students. They were divided into 15 pairs considering individual typing speed. Members in each pair were randomly assigned to the two experimental conditions. Participants were asked to type materials for 19 days. The dependent variable was the number of words typed. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in performance quantity between the two conditions. However, the average percentage of goal accomplishment under participative goal-setting condition was higher than that under assigned goal-setting condition. Also, the results showed that the difference in trend between two conditions was statistically significant.

  • The effects of goal setting in the context of Multiple Criteria Making (MCDM) are classified into two types : internal and external. In the internal models, the impact of the changed goal is limited only to the other goals in MCDM model. By contrast, in the external models, the impact is limited to the factors not included in the MCDM model. In fact, most real world examples of goal setting have the nature of mixed models. To assist in the goal setting process, the framework named Goal Setting Support (GSS) is developed. The GSS helps decision-makers for mixed models to 1) make internal trade-offs in a way that guarantees non-dominancy after the trade-ofs, and 2) evaluate achieved goals systematically. The GSS can be used in creating Decision Support Systems that will allow interactive goal setting.

  • The purpose of this article is to introduce a useful methodology of effective goal-setting for the team-level units. As a way to overcome some common symptoms in terms of Strategic Performance Evaluation System such as lack of knowledge on goal-setting, disconnection of process, problem of judging the degree of difficulty about objectives, limits of staff departments evaluation, fairness and authority of evaluators, weakness in coaching technique, and quantity or figure-oriented evaluation, to name a few, and to seek a more plausible goal-setting methodology, the author suggests a persuasive goal-setting concept: VAR(Value-Added Results). VAR, as the end-results, is the team contributions that add value to the organization, and it results from the team's activities. In addition to these goal-setting technique based on the concept of value-added results, several aspects should be improved for Strategic Performance Evaluation System to be implemented more effectively. They are: 1) shift from MBO to MP & D(Managing Performance & Development), 2) impartial exercise of evaluation authority as a organizational public assets, 3) reinforcement of maternal leadership and servantship instead of paternal leadership, 4) utilization of IT-based evaluation system.

  • Based on King's goal attainment theory, this research deals with applying nursing intervention of mutual goal settings to gastrectomy patients. It tests the effects of nursing intervention, according to the patients' health locus of control, suggested as external boundary criteria for the theory by employing a quasi-experimental design which consists of a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control and experimental groups. The subjects of this research were 62 gastrectomy patients hospitalized at Y medical center and the experimental and control groups consisted of 31 subjects. The experimental group received nursing intervention at the mutual goal setting of 5 times from the day before the surgery to the 5th day after the surgery, while the control group received only routine nursing care. Recovery indicators of both groups were measured and compared. Measurement variables included patients' characteristics, health locus of control, forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second, peak expiratory flow, bowel movement recovery, mobility recovery, level of pain, patients' stress and patients' satisfaction. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical package and the hypotheses were tested by ANOVA and ANCOVA. Results of the analyses are summarized as follows : 1) Internal health locus of control had higher effects of the nursing intervention of mutual goal setting than external health locus of control on pulmonary ventilatory functions of forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second, and peak expiratory flow. 2) There was no statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the bowel movement recovery between the internal and external health locus of control. 3) There was no statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the mobility recovery between the internal and external health locus of control. 4) There was no statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the level of pain between the internal and external health locus of control. 5) There was no statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the level of stress between the internal and external health locus of control. 6) There was a statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the level of satisfaction with provision of nursing information between the internal and external health locus of control, and there was no statistically significant difference in the effects of nursing intervention of mutual goal setting on the level of satisfaction with outcome of nursing between the internal and external locus of control. On the basis of the research results, the following are recommended : 1) Repeated research on responses to health locus of control is necessary. 2) Not only the effectiveness of nursing intervention in acute recovery periods, but also the long term effects are to be investigated. 3) The development of instruments is needed to accurately measure mutual goal setting regarding postoperative deep breath, coughing, early ambulation, etc. so that the relationship among the postoperative recovery indicators may be explored. 4) It is required that an instrument be developed to measure perception which facilitates goal attainment in the interactive setting between patients and nurses.

  • The issue of this research is to verify the influence of effort that university students putting and employment goal setting regarding employment preparation behavior. And which behavior affects to the employment goal achievement. This research could surely find that it is positive to employment goal setting. But employment goal setting is not enough to get a actual job. So we should manage job counseling program, and methodical subjects which is directly connected to employment. And also we have to enlarge the opportunity to experience actual job to help graduate students to get a job.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a self-management program using goal setting for patients after a stroke. The program was based on a theory-based Goal setting and Action Planning framework (G-AP), and the effectiveness of the program was examined. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The experimental group (n=30) received the self-management program using goal setting based on the G-AP over 7 weeks. The education was delivered individually with a specifically designed stroke workbook. The control group (n=30) received only patient information leaflets about stroke. Results: There were significant differences between the two groups. Stroke knowledge, self-efficacy, and health behavior compliance were significantly higher (all p<.001), and hospital anxiety (p<.001) and depression (p<.001) were significantly lower in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: This self-management program using goal setting based on a G-AP was found to be useful and beneficial for patients in stroke rehabilitation settings.

  • The objective of this paper is to design a Goal Alternatives Disposition System having three main subsystems for setting, evaluating and selecting goal alternatives. For setting of goal alternatives, System Alternatives Tree(SAT) structure will be developed, which has a computation algorithm for setting decision alternatives by the concept of System Priority Number(SPN). For evaluating and selecting of goal alternatives; First, Normative and Exploratory Priority Indices which consider technical performance to the goal, cost and feasibility are developed respectively. Second, Integrated Priority Index is built up to determine the total priority of the Goal Alternatives Disposition(GAD) system. For the design and verification of the GAD system, technological forecasting structure theory, systems engineering methodology will be used.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of goal-setting on Eco-driving behaviors. An additional purpose was to examine whether setting goals on target behaviors has spread effects on non-target Eco-driving behaviors. Three office workers who drive regularly participated in this study. An AB multiple baseline design was adopted. After baseline (A), participants set goals on two or three target behaviors(e.g., over speeding, put the gears in neutral, extreme acceleration) (B). Results showed that goal-setting was effective in increasing the targeted Eco-driving behaviors. In Addition, most of the non-target Eco-driving behaviors(e.g., extreme break, extreme acceleration) increased.
