This study is to explore geosites considering the geological characteristics in Gochang-gun and to investigate a possibility of being designated as the national geopark of Korea. In this study, the geosites within Gochang-gun are explored through literature search and field work. The results indicate that seven of the geosites in the Seonunsan area are relevant as potential national geopark, including Jinheunggul, Dosolam Maebulsang, Youngmungul, Nakjodae and Cheonmabong, Byungbawi, spherulitic rhyolite, and Dolmen site. In addition, there are other areas that have valus in terms of geological and educational aspect, including Hajeon mud flat and Myoungsasipri beach. The results of study imply that if various educational programs for the geotourism are properly developed, the Gochang-gun area has potential to be designated as the national geopark of Korea.
The purposes of this study were to classify the objectives in elementary science for the 2007 revised national curriculum in accordance with Bloom's Revised Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, and to compare the classified data of 2007 revised curriculum with 7th national curriculum from a view of creative objectives. For the purpose, the frame and manuel was developed to classify the objectives. In this study, elementary science instructional objectives of third- to forth-grade level were classified through the frame. The finding of this study revealed that the objectives, stated in elementary science for the 2007 revised national curriculum, are biased to the 'conceptional knowledge', 'factual knowledge' and the 'understand' cognitive process dimension. And the remaining dimension of the Bloom's revised taxonomy is very scanty. Comparing with 7th national curriculum, the 2007 revised national curriculum's objectives system has not conspicuous improvement in creativity area. It was suggested to improve present objectives system, because of give learners more experience to opportunity about creativity.
Developing countries face numerous challenges in the process of building science, technology, and research capacity; in particular, the formation and accumulation of skilled S&T workforce. The lack of organized and sustainable higher education options (Master and Doctoral programs), nonexistent or low-quality academic programs, and the absence of research-oriented study options are some of the strong contributors for talented students to emigrate to developed countries. At the same time, the consolidation of a global knowledge economy, the internationalization of higher education, and the competition to attract foreign talent in industrialized countries present challenges for underdeveloped nations to retain their already scarce skilled human resources. In this context, student mobility has been used as a policy mechanism to cope with S&T workforce shortages in S&T laggard nations. It has also enabled opportunities for international cooperation to play a key role. While significant literature has been devoted to studying the gains of developed nations with the arrival and potential migration of the mobilized students, few scholarly inquiries have addressed the benefits and losses experienced by their countries of origin. More importantly, limited research can be found on policy options and policy implications for developing countries to deal with the dilemmas presented by the brain-drain/brain-circulation debate. The goal of this article is to study empirical evidence of an international cooperation initiative for student mobility between the Republic of Korea and Guatemala (implemented during 2009-2015). The paper analyzes this particular international cooperation experience from the perspective of the different actors involved and attempts to draw policy implications and policy options for developing countries to deal with potential risks and gains derived from international mobility for their S&T capacity building.
For years, poor research and working conditions in the field of science and engineering in Korea led to the migration of gifted students to seek a better academic environment. The primary reason for such a phenomenon is the lack of a coherent education system for gifted students. With the support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, Hanyang University launched an exploring project to introduce an Honors Program, aiming to provide specialized and systematic learning opportunities as well as supporting greater academic achievements for gifted students at university-level. Students admitted to this program were selected not by conventional standards but by competency-based selection process, assessed through an in-depth interview. The specific goal of this program is to prepare gifted and talented students not only for an academic pioneer with the highest caliber in the field of science, but also for a global leader equipped with a creative view as well as integrity and a convergent mind. Distinctive features of this program include emphasis on fundamental science and consilience, problem solving skills, first-hand education, interpersonal skills, and global communication skills as well as individualization of the learning experience, among many others. This paper provides a short glimpse of the focus and methodology Honors Program in Hanyang University offers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate effective teaching and learning method for teaching decision-making on Socio-Scientific-Issues(SSI) in science classroom. So we carried out new teaching and learning trial for decision-making about Global Warming issues. Our new trial focused on self-directed and cooperative learning in decision-making about SSI. And our participants were science gifted or science high-achieved students in middle school. We analysed students' written decision-making of the last process in our new trial. We can find our instruction made progress in informed decision-making, structure of argumentation, reflective thinking stage, using the scientific information and understanding of the nature of science. As a result, self-directed and cooperative learning in decision-making on SSI leads students to the meaningful decision-making scientifically.

The purpose of this study is to investigate relationships among gifted students' perceived parental behavior of their parents, self-esteem, and emotional intelligence. The sample includes 91 6th-11th grade gifted students enrolled at a gifted program in a University. The surveys, administered in March, 2012, assess self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and the parental behavior of the parents of gifted students. Data were collected and analyzed by the researchers, using SPSS 18.0. The results are as follows: 1) Each of the 10 item's mean score is over 4.0, and the total mean scores on self-esteem is 4.36 out of 5 (SD=.546), showing positive responses. 2) The mean scores of two aspects of emotional intelligence were close to 4, showing positive perception. 3) The mean scores on perception of a father's and a mother's behavior are at 3.89 and 4.10, respectively; the three factors of perception among fathers (care, trust, and respect) are close to 4.0, while care (3.57) was somewhat low; the perception among mothers is at 4.31 (care), 4.20 (lesson), 4.01 (respect), and 3.96 (trust), showing statistical differences between fathers and mothers. 4) The correlation existed between self-esteem and emotional intelligence, between self-esteem and the four aspects of parental behavior, and between emotional intelligence and parental behavior. 5) Regression analyses showed that respect (${\beta}$=.422, p<.001) among fathers, and trust (${\beta}$=.450, p<.001) among mothers affected students' self-esteem; lessons (${\beta}$=.414, p<.001) and trust (${\beta}$=.280, p<.01) among fathers and lessons (${\beta}$=.450, p<.001) and respect (${\beta}$=.331, p<.01) among mothers affected students' emotional intelligence. The implication of this study, limitation, and future study ideas are suggested at the end of this paper.
We investigated the cognitive frame of high school students and inservice high school science teachers about effective teaching method, and we also explored how they understood about the teaching methods suggested by the 2009 revised Science Curriculum. Data were collected from 275 high school science teachers and 275 high school students. We analyzed data in terms of the words and the cognitive frame using the Semantic Network Analysis. The results were as follows. First, the teachers perceived that an activity oriented class was the effective science class that helped improve students' problem-solving abilities and their inquiry skills. The students had the cognitive frame that their teacher had to present relevant and enough teaching materials to students, and that they should also receive assistance from teachers in science class to better prepare for college entrance exam. Second, both students and teachers retained the cognitive frame about the efficient science class that was not reflected 2009 revised Science Curriculum exactly. Especially, neither groups connected the elements of 'convergence' as well as 'integration' embedded across science subject areas to their cognitive frame nor cognized the fact that many science learning contents were closed related to one another. Therefore, various professional development opportunities should be offered so that teachers succinctly comprehend the essential features and the intents of the 2009 revised Science Curriculum and thereby implement it in their science lessons effectively.

Today, sports are becoming increasingly important for national development, with all countries raising the strategic goal of becoming a sports powerhouse. Among them, martial arts, which are active in China as the main stage among East Asian martial arts, have a long history and are meaningful, and the promotion of internationalization of martial arts is also important. In this study, major problems faced in the process of promoting martial arts internationalization in East Asia were analyzed in depth. Currently, the theoretical system of martial arts is inconsistent and insufficient, there is a big difference in cultural background from region to region, there is a lack of talent for internationalization, and innovative promotion methods are not yet mature. Based on the major problems encountered in the internationalization of each martial arts, we will analyze the internationalization strategy, establish a martial arts theory system, accept the diversity of martial arts culture, and supplement the internationalization talent supply mechanism to propose a martial arts internationalization promotion method. The future succession and development of Chinese martial arts on the global stage and the promotion of internationalization of the value of Chinese martial arts have important theoretical values and practical significance.
In Japan accumulating intellectual assets by enhancing science and technology is the only way to survive the global competition. To enhance science and technology, it is important to improve science literacy the public and to foster human resources for science and technology, Therefore, MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) is now working with various projects. One of the projects for attaining the purpose is Science Literacy Enhancement Initiative. This initiative is a brand-new package of several projects to enhance math and science education in high and middle schools including (1) Super Science High school (SSHs) and (2) Science Partnership Program. The purpose of this study was to investigate concretely about the situation of promotion of SSHs paying attention to three high schools (TAKASAKI high school, HORIOKA high school and RITUMEIKAN high school) specified as SSHs. Furthermore, some suggestions about gifted education were discussed.
From the perspective of science gifted education, the successful intelligence theory is a means to understand how the gifted education curriculum reflects the characteristics of science gifted students. The purpose of this study is to investigate if the successful intelligence is fully reflected in the teaching materials of two gifted education centers (GECDOE: Gifted Education Center affiliated with District Office of Education, GSEIU: Gifted Science Education Institute attached to University). For this study, we selectively used 143 (GECDOE) and 134 questions (GSEIU) from the teaching materials of two gifted education centers. Those questions is analyzed through the semantic network analysis method. The results are as follow. First, the teaching materials of two gifted education centers are not evenly reflected in the successful intelligence, such as analytical ability, creative ability, and practical ability. Second, the teaching materials of two gifted education centers intensively demands analytical ability for students such as 'identify problem', 'represent and organize information', and 'additional prompts for analytical thinking'. Third, the teaching materials of two gifted education centers are presented to students without linking each frame of successful intelligence to one another. As the gifted students are quick to learn and show a preference for more complex thinking, it is necessary to develop teaching materials to experience the various abilities and promote integrated thinking according to the level of the gifted students. In this respect, this study is expected to be used as useful information for developing teaching materials to support customized education for gifted students.
