  • For old-age makeups, makeup artists first make a mold cast of an actor's face using plaster and then sculpt wrinkles in clay on the plaster mold. After finishing the clay sculpture, its negative plaster mold is fabricated and silicone skin patches are finally made for application to the actor's face. This process takes a few days and is tedious for actors and makeup artists. With recent advances in 3D printing and scanning technology, it is becoming easier to scan and fabricate 3D faces. This paper presents a new pipeline composed of facial scanning, interactive wrinkle modeling, and mold printing stages to easily and efficiently fabricate silicone masks for old-age makeups without the use of plaster and clay. An intuitive sketch interface based on a normal map is proposed for the creation of wrinkles in real time, even with a high-resolution face model. Then the geometry of the final wrinkles is reconstructed using a depth map and the negative mold of the wrinkled face is printed. We also show that the presented pipeline can fabricate a silicone mask more conveniently than the traditional one that consists of pouring silicone into the prepared negative mold and then overlapping the mold with the original positive one.

  • In this paper we investigate an analytical approach for noise properties and geometric structure in Computed Radiography(CR) images of industrial steel-tubes. Over thirty diverse radiographic images are sampled from industrial radiography measurements according to radiation intensity. Each image consists of three regions; background, thickness and inner-tube. Among these the region of inner-tube is selected for the object of analysis. Geometric structure which includes the noise generation is analyzed by the statistical and functional methodology. The analysis is carried on spacially and line by line. It verifies the geometrical transfigure from the circle configuration of steel-tube and noise variation. The estimation of fitting function and its error are the geometric factors. The statistics such as standard deviation, mean and signal-to-noise ratio are noise parameters for discrimination. These factors are considered under the intensity variation which is the penetrative strength of radiation. The analysing results show that the original geometry of circle is preserved in the form of elliptic or short/long diameter circle, and the noise deviation has increased inverse proportional to the radiation intensity.

  • RF (radio-frequency) probes of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance are one of the important factors and should be designed and built properly depending upon the geometry of the samples and the information. In general there are two kinds of rf probes : one encircles the sample while the other is placed on the surface of the sample. However, in case that the samples on human internal organs have a tube shape, the two kinds of rf probes, as specified above, are usually unsuitable for the internal imaging due to the degradation of signal-to-noise ratios (SNR's). In this case a probe should be positioned as close to the area as possible by putting the probe in the tubelike sample to improve filling factor In the present study inside-out probes have been constructed in the three different shapes such as an anti-solenoidal, a saddle and a dual surface types. RF-field distributions have also been calculated depending upon the geometrical changes of anti-solenoid probes. Moreover, the performance of the inside-out probes has been checked by measuring SNR's of the images acquired. The inside-out probes constructed in this study produced better SWR's and rf-field uniformity in the area close to the probes in comparing with any other commercial probes. There is a high feasibility that the constructed probes in the present study are applicable to the diagnosis of human bodies.

  • A numerical model was developed to predict the stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge in open channels with nonuniform cross section or compound open-channels. The governing equation is the one-dimensional momentum equation based on assumptions of the steady and uniform flow conditions in the longitudinal direction and the uniform water surface elevation in a cross section. Vegetative drag force term was included in governing equation in order to reflect the effect of floodplain vegetation on the flow characteristics. Finite element method was applied to obtain the numerical solution of the governing equation. Stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge for a given water surface are calculated based on input data, such as the cross sectional geometry, Manning's roughness coefficient, vegetative information and longitudinal slope of channel bed. The developed model was verified by comparing the calculated results with the observed data and the results of Darby and Thorne's(1996) model and the nonlinear k-$\epsilon$ model. The verified model was applied to estimate the upstream boundary conditions in two-dimensional flow model. The numerical results using laterally distributed unit discharge were compared with those obtained using uniformly distributed unit discharge in two-dimensional flow model.

  • Since the discovery of fullerenes as a class of nanostructure compounds, many potential applications have been suggested for their unusual structures and properties. The isolated pentagon rule (IPR) states that all pentagonal carbon rings are isolated in the most stable fullerene. Fullerenes $C_n$ are a class of spherical carbon allotrope group with unique properties. Electron transfer between fullerenes and other molecules is thought to involve the transfer of electrons between the molecules surrounding the fullerene cage. One class of electron transfer molecules is the methanofullerene derivatives ([6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), 4-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-[6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$-butyric acid methyl ester (p-EHO-PCBM), and 4-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-[6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$-butyric acid (p-EHO-PCBA), 10-12). It has been determined that $C_{60}$ does not obey IPR. Supramolecular complexes 1-9 and 10-12 are shown to possess a previously unreported host.guest interaction for electron transfer processes. The unsaturated, cis-geometry, thiocrown ethers, (1-9) (described as [X-UT-Y], where X and Y indicate the numbers of carbon and sulfur atoms, respectively), are a group of crown ethers that display interesting physiochemical properties in the light of their conformational restriction compared with a corresponding saturated system, as well as the sizes of their cavities. Topological indices have been successfully used to construct mathematical methods that relate structural data to various chemical and physical properties. To establish a good relationship between the structures of 1-9 with 10-12, a new index is introduced, ${\mu}_{cs}$. This index is the ratio of the sum of the number of carbon atoms ($n_c$) and the number of sulfur atoms ($n_s$) to the product of these two numbers for 1-9. In this study, the relationships between this index and oxidation potential ($^{ox}E_1$) of 1-9, as well as the first to third free energies of electron transfer (${\Delta}G_{et(n)}$, for n = 1-3, which is given by the Rehm-Weller equation) between 1-9 and PCBM, p-EHO-PCBM, and p-EHO-PCBA (10-12) as [X-UT-Y]@R(where R is the adduct PCBM, p-EHO-PCBM, and p-EHO-PCBA group) (13-15) supramolecular complexes are presented and investigated.

  • In this research we present a novel method which combines and visualizes the design model and the FDM-based simulation result of solidification. Moreover we employ VR displays and visualize stereoscopic images to provide an effective analysis environment. First we reconstruct the solidification simulation result to a rectangular mesh model using a conventional simulation software. Then each point color of the reconstructed model represents a temperature value of its position. Next we map the two models by finding the nearest point of the reconstructed model for each point of the design model and then assign the point color of the design model as that of the reconstructed model. Before this mapping we apply mesh subdivision because the design model is composed of minimum number of points and that makes the point distribution of the design model not uniform compared with the reconstructed model. In this process the original shape is preserved in the manner that points are added to the mesh edge which length is longer than a predefined threshold value. The implemented system visualizes the solidification simulation data on the design model, which allows the user to understand the object geometry precisely. The immersive and realistic working environment constructed with use of VR display can support the user to discover the defect occurrence faster and more effectively.

  • Purpose of this study was a development of an image processing algorithm to recognize paprika and acquire it's 3D coordinates from stereo images to precisely control an end-effector of a paprika auto harvester. First, H and S threshold was set using HSI histogram analyze for extracting ROI(region of interest) from raw paprika cultivation images. Next, fundamental matrix of a stereo camera system was calculated to process matching between extracted ROI of corresponding images. Epipolar lines were acquired using F matrix, and $11{\times}11$ mask was used to compare pixels on the line. Distance between extracted corresponding points were calibrated using 3D coordinates of a calibration board. Non linear regression analyze was used to prove relation between each pixel disparity of corresponding points and depth(Z). Finally, the program could calculate horizontal(X), vertical(Y) directional coordinates using stereo camera's geometry. Horizontal directional coordinate's average error was 5.3mm, vertical was 18.8mm, depth was 5.4mm. Most of the error was occurred at 400~450mm of depth and distorted regions of image.

  • The extreme floods recently are have been attributed global warming, The development of a canal tunnel to prevent floods by making a bypass or undercurrent to flood discharge in a major flooding area is required because urban flooding in heavy rainfall occurs frequently, increasing the impermeability according to lack of capacity in sewage to urbanization by the existing urban basin. In this study, a numerical simulation was performed to support design standards for a multi-purpose waterway tunnel combined road tunnel of canal tunnel. The numerical simulation showed that the size of the friction loss occurring in the tunnel section of the same channel occurred more than the theoretically calculated frictional loss derived from the numerical simulations. This is probably due to the additional frictional loss caused by the change in the flow structure due to the geometry of the pipe when the shape of the channel is non-circular. The increase in friction loss was more pronounced in the laminar flow than in the turbulent flow. Depending on the shape of the conduit, the friction loss should be adjusted for accurate flow calculations. This result can provide the basin information about the design of flood by a pass conduit.

  • Current roads were designed and constructed based on the design criteria and thus those were overly simplified drivers' needs. The road criteria do not suggest the desirable range of the design values but suggest the minimum requirements for the road design. Therefore, a completed road design based on the design criteria does not always guarantee the best design in terms of safety and it sometimes violates drivers' expectation. Therefore, the ROSSAV(ROad Safety Survey and Analysis Vehicle) is being developed by the KICT to evaluate road safety and increase driving safety. In this paper, the image capture system was described in detail. The image capture system is consisted of two front view cameras, two side down-looking cameras and a synchronization device. Two front view cameras were used to take a picture of road and road facilities at the driver's viewpoint. Also, two side down-looking cameras were used to capture road surface image to extract lane markings. A synchronization device were used to generate image capturing signal at the fixed distance spacing huck as every 10m. The front view images could be used to calculate and measure highway geometry such as shoulder width because every image is saved with it's locational information. And also the side down looking images could be used to extract median lane mark which representing road alignement efficiently.

  • Recently, lots of interests have been concentrated on the scrubber system that abates waste gases produced from semiconductor manufacturing processes. An effective design of the thermal decomposition reactor inside a scrubber system is significantly important since it is directly related to the removal performance of pollutants and overall stabilities. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was conducted to figure out the thermal and flow characteristics inside the reactor of wet scrubber. In order to verify the numerical method, the temperature at several monitoring points was compared to that of experimental results. Average error rates of 1.27~2.27% between both the results were achieved, and numerical results of the temperature distribution were in good agreement with the experimental data. By using the validated numerical method, the effect of the reactor geometry on the heat transfer rate was also taken into consideration. From the result, it was observed that the flow and temperature uniformity were significantly improved. Overall, our current study could provide useful information to identify the fluid behavior and thermal performance for various scrubber systems.
