  • Geometric correction is a critical step to remove geometric distortions in satellite images. For correct geometric correction, Ground Control Points (GCPs) have to be chosen carefully to guarantee the quality of corrected satellite images. In this paper, we present an automatic approach for geometric correction by constructing GCP Chip database (GCP DB) that is a collection of pieces of images with geometric information. The GCP DB is constructed by exploiting Landsat's nadir-viewing property and the constructed GCP DB is combined with a simple block matching algorithm for efficient GCP matching. This approach reduces time and energy for tedious manual geometric correction and promotes usage of Landsat images.

  • The purpose of this study is to create an interactive tool Geometry Player for geometric explorations. In designing this software, we referred to van Hiele's geometric learning theory of and Duval's cognitive comprehension theory of geometric figures. With Geometry Player, it is easy to construct and manipulate dynamic geometric figures. Teachers can easily present the dynamic process of geometric figures in class, and students can use it as a leaning tool to construct geometric concepts by themselves. It is hoped that Geometry Player can be a useful assistant for teachers and a nice partner for students. A brief introduction to Geometry Player and some application examples are included in this paper.

  • The mainly used technique to correct satellite images with geometric distortion is to develop a mathematical relationship between pixels on the image and corresponding points on the ground. Polynomial models with various transformations have been designed for defining the relationship between two coordinate systems. GCP based geometric correction has peformed overall plane to plane mapping. In the overall plane mapping, overall structure of a scene is considered, but local variation is discarded. The Region with highly variant height is rectified with distortion on overall plane mapping. To consider locally variable region in satellite image, TIN-based rectification on a satellite image is proposed in this paper. This paper describes the relationship between GCP distribution and rectification model through experimental result and analysis about each rectification model. We can choose a geometric correction model as the structural characteristic of a satellite image and the acquired GCP distribution.

  • To extract value-added products which are important in scientific area and practical life, e.g. digital elevation models, ortho-rectified images and geometric corrected images, Satellite Technology Research Center at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed a satellite image processing software called "Valadd-Pro". In this paper, "Valadd-Pro" software is briefly introduced and its main components such as precise geometric correction, ortho-rectification and digital elevation model extraction component are described. The performance of "Valadd-Pro" software was assessed on 10m resolution 6000 $\times$ 6000 SPOT panchromatic images (60km $\times$ 60km) using ground control points from GPS measurements. The height accuracy was measured by comparing our results with 100m resolution $DTEDs^{1)}$ produced by USGS and 60m resolution DEMs generated from digitized contours produced by National Geography Institute. Also, to show the superior performance of "Valadd-Pro" software, we compared the performance with that of commonly used PCI$\circledR$ commercial software. Based on the results, the geometric correction of "Valadd-Pro" software needs fewer ground control points than that of PCI$\circledR$ software and the ortho-rectification of "Valadd-Pro" software shows similar performance to that of PCI$\circledR$ software. In the digital elevation model extraction, "Valadd-Pro" software is two times more accurate and four times faster than PCI$\circledR$ software.ccurate and four times faster than PCI$\circledR$ software.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of dynamic software in solving high school analytic geometry problems compared with traditional algebraic approach. Three high school students who have revealed high performance in mathematics were involved in this study. It was considered that they mastered the basic concepts of equations of plane figure and curves of secondary degree. The research questions for the study were the followings: 1) In what degree students understand relationship between geometric approach and algebraic approach in solving geometry problems? 2) What are the difficulties students encounter in the process of using the dynamic software? 3) In what degree the constructions of geometric figures help students to understand the mathematical concepts? 4) What are the effects of dynamic software in constructing analytic geometry concepts? 5) In what degree students have developed the images of algebraic concepts? According to the results of the study, it was revealed that mathematical connections between geometric approach and algebraic approach was complementary. And the students revealed more rely on the algebraic expression over geometric figures in the process of solving geometry problems. The conceptual images of algebraic expression were not developed fully, and they blamed it upon the current college entrance examination system.

  • Numerous digital image analysis techniques have been developed with regard to transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with the help of programming. DigitalMicrograph (DM, Gatan Inc., USA), which is installed on most TEMs as operational software, includes a script language to develop customized software for image analysis. Based on the DM script language, this work provides a script source listing for quantitative strain measurements based on a geometric phase analysis.

  • This study was designed to develop investigation- and exploration- activities on Euclidean geometry with an exploratory type software, Geometer's Sketchpad, and to gain insights into the geometric reasoning abilities of college students working with the software. A package of Euclidean geometric activities with GSP was developed and four college students worked on the several activities with GSP and their geometric reasoning process were analyzed. Results indicated that GSP helped students solve problems in the several ways: to make conjectures and discover theorems by providing precise construction and measurement; to discover their proofs by providing the visual images and its manipulation; and to make students easily apply "what-if"strategies and expand and deepen their activities. Students' geometric reasoning was highly depended on analytic methods and their abilities with synthetic methods were shown very limited.

  • Methods of geometric correction for the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer imagery of NOAA satellites were developed and applied to the software for image processing of meteorological satellite data. The software for finding the earth location of each scan position and the software for gridding on original imagery were dedigned. On the assumption of circular orbits and the spherical earth, the methods developed were sufficiently accurate in the purpose of most meteorological data analyses.

  • This research is devoted to investigate Omar Khayyām's geometric solution for the cubic equation using conic sections in the Medieval Islam as a useful alternative connecting logic geometry with analytic geometry at a secondary school. We also introduce Omar Khayyām's 25 cases classification of the cubic equation with all positive coefficients. Moreover we study 6 cases with 4 terms of 25 cubic equations and in particular we reinterpret geometric methods of solving in 2015 secondary Mathematics curriculum and visualize them by means of dynamic geometry software.

  • Using a geometric computer program achieve learning effects as handling various function and has advantage to overcome the environment of classroom through providing an inquiring surroundings in the figure learning at an elementary school. There are many software for drawing the geometric. But currently most is focus on how to use the softwares without contents. So, It is necessary to develope a geometric software adapted cognitive development of primary schoolchildren. This study is aim to analyze elementary mathematic curriculum based on Van Heiles theory, to develope the software(Geometry for Kids : GeoKids) considering cognitive level of the primary schoolchildren. This software is developed to substitute a ruler and a compass considering cognitive level of the primary schoolchildren. Using mouse, GeoKids software help a child to draw easily lines and circles and this software notice another lines and circle automatically for a more accurate drawing figures. Children can use practically this software in connection with subjects of elementary mathematic curriculum.
