The widespread use of thin shell structures has created a need for a systematic method of analysis which can adequately account for arbitrary geometric form. Therefore, the stress analysis of thin shell has been one of the more challenging areas of structural mechanics. The analysis of axisymmetric spherical shell is almost an every day occurrence in many industrial applications. A reliable and accurate finite element analysis procedure for such structures was needed. In general, the shell structures designed according to quasi-static analysis may fail under conditions of dynamic loading. For a more realistic prediction on the load carrying capacity of these shell, in addition to the dynamic effect, consideration should also include other factors such as nonlinearities in both material and geometry since these factors, in different manner, may also affect the magnitude of this capacity. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the dynamic characteristics of spherical Shell. For these purpose, the spherical shell subjected to uniformly distributed step load was analyzed for its large displacements elasto-viscoplastic dynamic response. The results for the dynamic characteristics of spherical shell in the cases under various conditions of base-radius/central height(a/H) and thickness/shell radius(t/R) were summarized as follows: 1. The dynamic characteristics with a/H, 1) As the a/H increases, the amplitude of displacement increased. 2) The values of displacement Dynamic Magnification Factor (DMF) range from 2.9 to 6.3 in the crown of shell and the values of factor in the mid-point of shell range from 1.8 to 2.6. 3) As the a/H increases, the values of DMF in the crown of shell is decreased rapidly but the values of DMF in mid-point of shell is increased gradually. 4) The values of DMF of hoop-stresses range from 3.6 to 6.8 in the crown of shell and the values of factor in the mid-point of shell range from 2.3 to 2.6, the values of DMF of stress were larger than that of displacement. 2. The dynamic characteristics with t/R, 1) With the decrease of thickness of shell decreses, the amplitude of the displacement and the period increased. 2) The values of DMF of the displacement were range from 2.8 to 3.6 in the crown of shell and the values of factor in the mid-point of shell were range from 2.1 to 2.2.

The purpose of this study is to investigated the elution behavior of platinoid metal acetylacetonates, which is the key to elucidate their retention mechanism and optimize their RPLC separation conditions. The retention data of four platinoid metal acetylacetonates have been measured on four different columns in methanol-water and acetonitrile-water systems. The retention of uncharged platinoid metal acetylacetonates is interpreted by solvophobic effect. The retention of platinoid metal acetylacetonates is also greatly influenced by the geometric structure of the complexes. The square planar chelates, $Pd(acac)_2$, $Pt(acac)_2$, are retained longer than the octahedral chelates, $Rh(acac)_3$, $Ir(acac)_3$. It is likely due to that square planar chelates show greater interaction with nonpolar stationary phase than octahedral chelates. The results of van't Hoff plots have shown that platinoid metal acetylacetonates is operated on the same retention mechanism in the temperature range of $25{\sim}45^{\circ}C$. The study of the retention mechanism by the enthalpy-entropy compensation phenomenon has indicated that the retention mechanism of octahedral chelates and square planar chelates do not vary with the composition change of methanol-water mobile phase, respectively. In acetonitrile-water mobile phase, however, the retention mechanism is observed to be more complicated. Optimum condition for the separation of four platinoid metal acetylacetonates is found to be 40% methanol, polymeric C18 column, and $45^{\circ}C$.
A difficulty encountered in engineering seismic mapping is that reflection events from shallow discontinuities are commonly overlapped with coherent noise such as air wave, direct waves, head waves, and high-amplitude surface waves. Here, the radial trace transform, a simple geometric re-mapping of a trace gather (x-t domain) to another trace gather (v-t domain), is applied to investigate the rejection effect of coherent linear noises. Two different types of data sets were selected as a representative database: good-quality data for intermediate sounding (hundreds of meters) in a sedimentary basin and very noisy data for shallow (${\leq}50m$) mapping of the weathered zone and bedrock surface. Results obtained with cascaded application of the radial transform and low-cut filtering proved to be as good as, or better than, those produced using f-k filtering, and were especially effective for air wave and direct wave. This simple transform enables better understanding of the characteristics of various types of noise in the RT domain, and can be generally applied to overcoming diffractions and back-scatterings caused by joints, fractures, and faults commonly that are encountered in geotechnical problems.

Statement of problem. Higher fracture rates were reported for Branemark implants placed in the maxilla and for 3.75 mm diameter implants installed in the posterior region. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fracture of a fixture by finite element analysis and to compare different diameter of fixtures according to the level of alveolar bone resorption. Material and Methods. The single implant and prosthesis was modeled in accordance with the geometric designs for the 3i implant systems. Models were processed by the software programs HyperMesh and ANSA. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed for; (1) a regular titanium implant 3.75 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length (2) a regular titanium implant 4.0 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length (3) a wide titanium implant 5.0 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length each with a cementation type abutment and titanium alloy screw. The abutment screws were subjected to a tightening torque of 30 Ncm. The amount of preload was hypothesized as 650 N, and round and flat type prostheses were 12 mm in diameter, 9 mm in height were loaded to 600 N. Four loading offset points (0, 2, 4, and 6 mm from the center of the implants) were evaluated. To evaluate fixture fracture by alveolar bone resorption, we investigated the stress distribution of the fixtures according to different alveola. bone loss levels (0, 1.5, 3.5, and 5.0 mm of alveolar bone loss). Using these 12 models (four degrees of bone loss and three implant diameters), the effects of load-ing offset, the effect of alveolar bone resorption and the size of fixtures were evaluated. The PAM-CRASH 2G simulation software was used for analysis of stress. The PAM-VIEW and HyperView programs were used for post processing. Results. The results from our experiment are as follows: 1. Preload maintains implant-abutment joint stability within a limited offset point against occlusal force. 2. Von Mises stress of the implant, abutment screw, abutment, and bone was decreased with in-creasing of the implant diameter. 3. With severe advancing of alveolar bone resorption, fracture of the 3.75 and the 4.0 mm diameter implant was possible. 4. With increasing of bending stress by loading offset, fracture of the abutment screw was possible.
The lethal concentration(LC50) of several micropollutants for three species of the fish Paralichthys olivaceus, Mugil cephalus and Sebastes schlegeli were determined by acute toxicity tests. For the determination of definitive test concentrations, the fish were exposed to three test material concentrations spaced at order-of-magnitude intervals based on a logarithmic ratio in range finding tests. LC50 was determined by five concentrations of test material in a geometric progression by means of range finding tests. The 96hr-LC50 values(mg/l) were estimated by the graphical interpolation of probability-logarithm transformations. These indicated that the order of sensitivities to three kind of micropollutants was Mugil cephalus > Paralichthys olivaceus > Sebastes schlegeli.
The low dose radiation is done for a long period, thus researchers have to know the exact dose distribution for the irradiated mouse. This research has been conducted in order to find out methods in transmitting an exact dose to mouse in a mouse irradiation experiment carried out using $^{137}Cs$ irradiation equipment installed in the DIRAMS (Dongnam Institution of Radiological & Medical Sciences) research center. We developed a single mouse housing cage and shelf with adjustable geometric factors such as distance and angle from collimator. The measurement of irradiated dose showed a maximal 42% difference of absorbed dose from the desired dose in the conventional irradiation system, whereas only 6% difference of the absorbed dose was measured in the self-developed mouse apartment system. In addition, multi mice housing showed much difference of the absorbed dose in between head and body, compared to single mouse housing in the conventional irradiation system. This research may allow further research about biological effect assessment for the low dose irradiation using the self-developed mouse apartment to provide more exact doses which it tries to transmit, and to have more reliability for the biological analysis results.

In this paper, beam finite elements with higher-order derivatives' continuity are formulated and evaluated for various boundary conditions. All the beam elements are based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. These higher-order beam elements are often required to analyze structures by using newly developed higher-order beam theories and/or non-classical beam theories based on nonlocal elasticity. It is however rare to assess the performance of such elements in terms of boundary and loading conditions. To this end, two higher-order beam elements are formulated, in which $C^2$ and $C^3$ continuities of the deflection are enforced, respectively. Three different boundary conditions are then applied to solve beam structures, such as cantilever, simply-support and clamped-hinge conditions. In addition to conventional Euler-Bernoulli beam boundary conditions, the effect of higher-order boundary conditions is investigated. Depending on the boundary conditions, the oscillatory behavior of deflections is observed. Especially the geometric boundary conditions are problematic, which trigger unstable solutions when higher-order deflections are prescribed. It is expected that the results obtained herein serve as a guideline for higher-order derivatives' continuous finite elements.

For a seismic design or performance evaluation of a structure, an experimental investigation on a scale model of the structure or numerical analysis based on the finite element model is considered. Regarding the numerical analysis, a three-dimensional finite element analysis is performed if a high accuracy of the results is required, while a sensitivity or fragility analysis which uses huge seismic ground motions leads to the use of a lumped-mass stick model. The conventional modeling technique to build the lumped-mass stick model calculates the amount of the lumped mass by considering the geometric shape of the structure, like a tributary area. However, the eigenvalues of the conventional model obtained through such a calculation are normally not the same as those of the actual structure. In order to overcome such a deficiency, in this study, a new lumped mass stick model is proposed. The model is named the "frequency adaptive-lumped-mass stick model." It provides the same eigenvalues and similar dynamic responses as the actual structure. A non-prismatic column is considered as an example, and its natural frequencies as well as the dynamic performance of the new lumped model are compared to those of the full-finite element model. To investigate the damping effect on the new model, 1% to 5% of the critical damping ratio is applied to the model and the corresponding results are also compared to those of the finite element model.
The phase changes of 1-palmitoyl-$d_{31}$-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (POPC_$d_{31}$) bilayers distorted by an antimicrobial peptide, a magainin 2 or an aurein 3.3 were investigated by using $^2H$ solid-state NMR (SSNMR) spectroscopy. From the theoretical simulation of the experimental $^2H$ solid-state NMR spectra the geometric structure constants and the lateral diffusion coefficients were obtained in the peptide-lipid mixture phases. Within five days of the peptide action on the lipid bilayers only the distorted alignment of the bilayers were measured but after 100 days an elliptic toroidal pore structure and an inverted hexagonal phase were formed in the presence of magainin 2 and aurein 3.3, respectively. In order to investigate the effect of an anionic lipid molecule on the actions of two peptides on the lipid bilayer, the same experiments were performed on the POPC_$d_{31}$/1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylglycerol (POPG) bilayer and the significant differences in the actions of two peptides on two bilayers of POPC_$d_{31}$ and POPC_$d_{31}$/POPG were measured.

PURPOSES : This research investigates traffic noise characteristics as change the transverse rumble strips shape from rectangular to cylinder at toll plaza of highway. METHODS : The traffic noise was investigated at two different places at toll plaza of highway. One is modified grooving, another is employed cylinder shape of TRS instead of rectangular shape of TRS. A measurement of traffic noise was conducted at same location and time period. The traffic volume information was gotten from office of highway office and vehicle speed was measured by speed measuring device. The traffic noise measurement was conducted from 13:00 to 23:00 and by pass-by method. Also, the traffic noise was measured behind noise barrier. Various distance from noise barrier(7.5m, 30m, 50m) and different heights(1.2m, 3m, and 5m) were parameter for measurement of traffic noise in this study. RESULTS : The class 1 vehicle was contributed from traffic volume which was increased 1,500. However, the distribution of traffic speed didn't change compare to previous investigated period. From this study, It was found that the external traffic noise was changed as function of geometric shape of TRS. The external noise from modified grooving was less than 1.2dB(A) of the current TRS. A difference of traffic noise was 20dB(A) before and after barrier. It came from a noise barrier effect as reduction of traffic noise. According to investigate a traffic noise distribution near barrier, there is similar noise characteristic as function of height at 7.5m distance from noise barrier. Also, There is no different traffic noise between 30m and 50m from source of the noise of sound barrier. CONCLUSIONS : Based on this traffic noise investigation result, there is a clear characteristic difference as changed TRS shape. The traffic noise was reduced by changed TRS shape. Specially, traffic noise was decreased although the traffic volume was increase for same investigation time and period. It is implied that cylinder type of TRS significantly reduces the traffic noise. The specification of various TRS will be studied in the future.
