  • Any relative deformation between the cutting tool and the workpiece at machining point results directly in geometric and dimensional errors. The sources of relative deformations between the cutting tool and the workpiece at the contact point may be due to vibration, thermal deformation and cutting forces. In this paper, geometric error prediction of workpiece in turning has been investigated. To reach this goal, turning experiments are carried out according to selected cutting conditions. The variable cutting conditions are cutting speed, depth of cut and feed rate. The results will be useful as a guidance to select cutting conditions to improve the geometrical accuracy.

  • The horizontal geo-location accuracy of KOMPSAT-2, without GCPs (Ground Control Points) is 80 meters CE90 for monoscopic image of up to 26 degrees off-nadir angle, after processing including POD (Precise Orbit Determination), PAD(Precise Attitude Determination) and AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem) sensor calibration. In case of multiple stereo images, without GCPs, the vertical geometric accuracy is less than 22.4 meters LE 90 and the horizontal geometric accuracy is less than 25.4 meters. There are two types of sensor model for KOMPSAT-2, direct sensor model and Rational Function Model (RFM). In general, a sensor model relates object coordinates to image coordinates The major objective of this investigation is to check and verify the geometrical performance when initial KOMPSAT-2 images are employed and briefly introduce the sensor model of KOMPSAT-2.

  • As the KOMPSAT-1 satellite can roll tilt up to $\pm$45$^{\circ}$, we have analyzed some EOC images taken at different tilt angles fur this study. The required ground coordinates for bundle adjustment and geometric accuracy, are read from the digital map produced by the National Geography Institution, at a scale of 1:5, 000. These are the steps taken for the tilting angle of KOMPSAT-1 satellite to be present in the evaluation of the accuracy of the geometric of each different stereo image data: Firstly, as the tilting angle is different in each image, the satellite dynamic characteristic must be determined by the sensor modeling. Then the best sensor modeling equation is determined. The result of this research, the difference between the RMSE values of individual stereo images is due more the quality of image and ground coordinates than to the tilt angle. The bundle adjustment using three KOMPSAT-1 stereo pairs, first degree of polynomials for modeling the satellite position were sufficient.

  • A geometric error of machine parts is one of the most important factors that affect the accuracy of positioning, generating and measuring for precision machinery. It is known that the thermal deformation of a workpiece during surface grinding is the most important in the geometric error of ground surface. This paper experimentally describes the grinding characteristics of creep-feed grinding. The wheels have 6 slotted pieces in order to compare the grinding temperature with the geometric.

  • The nominal radiometric calibration equation and additional five algorithms are applied in the infrared channel radiometric calibration for the COMS (Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite) MI (Meteorological Imager). The processing end time of the radiometric calibration is directly related with the start time of geometric calibration processing since the geometric calibration processing is followed by that of the radiometric calibration. This paper describes comparison and analysis results for geometric calibration processing using two types of the radiometric calibration results, outputs from only the nominal radiometric calibration equation and outputs from the complete one (the nominal radiometric calibration equation with additional five algorithms), to propose a method with the earlier start time of the geometric calibration processing. Experimental results show that both of radiometric calibration results, from the nominal radiometric calibration equation with a fast processing speed and from the complete one with accurate radiometric values, can be used in the geometric calibration as the appropriate inputs because those processing results satisfied the requirements of geometric calibration processing accuracy. Thus the radiometric calibration results from the nominal radiometric calibration equation can be used to improve geometric calibration processing time.

  • Improvement of measuring accuracy is an essential part of quality control manufacturing process. The OMM is less than the CMM in measure accuracy but the OMM system is more efficient, easier to use than other measurement system. About 40~70% of the machine tool errors are induced by the thermal errors. Therefore, a key requirement for improving the measuring accuracy is to reduce the geometric and thermal errors. Thermal errors are measured by a ball bar system and predicted by the thermal error modeling. Furthermore, using the pre-defined thermal error map approach compensates the geometric accuracy of the OMM. Appropriate experiments are performed using ball-bar system, temperature measuring devices and touch-type probe. Compensated results are compared with those obtained using CMM to verify the proposed methods.

  • This paper proposes an error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injection molding parts. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Measuring data can not lead to get accurate geometric model, including errors of physical parts and measuring machines. Measuring data include errors which can be classified into two types. One is molding error in product, the other is measuring error. Measuring error includes optical error of laser scanner, deformation by probe forces of CMM and machine error. It is important to compensate these in reverse engineering. Least square method(LSM) provides the cloud data with a geometry compensation, improving accuracy of geometry. Also, the functional shape of a part and design concept can be reconstructed by error compensation using geometry information.

  • In this paper, we present our implementation of the direct camera model (image to ground) for SPOT5 and use it to assess the geometric accuracy of SPOT5 imagery. Our assessment confirms the location accuracy of SPOT5 imagery (without use of GCPs) is less than 50m. We further introduce a few attitude parameters to refine the camera model with GCPs. The model is applied to two SPOT5 supermode images, one near vertical, incidence angle of 3 degrees, and one far oblique, incidence angle of 27 degrees. The results show that accuracy (rms of check points) of about one pixel (2.5m) can be achieved with about 4 GCPs by using only 3 parameters to correct the yaw, pitch and roll of the satellite.

  • This study is focused on the analysis of road extracting accuracy from the high resolution IKONOS satellite image data. A geometric correction of the image is performed using the RFM and interpretation with the screen digitizing is also performed for extracting the roads information. For the evaluation of road extracting accuracy, the road locations and the road widths are compared with the national digital map. The comparison results shows that the road boundary and the size of road width are able to extract with the geometric accuracy of $\pm$3.4m and $\pm$1.1m.
