In the discipline of design science, the integration of cognitive, semantic, and affective elements is crucial in the conception and development of a product. Affective components in IT artefacts have attracted researchers' attention, but little attention has been given to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This research was conducted to identify emotions in web-based GIS, and determine design influences on the emotions using Kansei engineering (KE). In the evaluation procedure, ten web-based GIS were used as specimens, and 20 Kansei words were used as emotional descriptors in the Kansei checklist. 50 participants were asked to rate their emotional responses towards the specimens on the Kansei checklist. Principal Component Analysis was used to discover the semantic structure of Kansei, in which dynamism and spaciousness were identified. Significant Kansei concepts were identified using Factor Analysis, in which dynamic & well-organized, refreshing, spacious, professional, and nautical-look were identified. Partial Least Square analysis has assisted the research in discovering the significant design influence to the Kansei. These findings provide designers and other stakeholders with valuable knowledge for strategizing future web-based GIS designs that incorporate user emotions.

A lot of the data currently measured is measured based on indicators, but since the height value of the measurement point is not used as basic data, difficulties arise when trying to use it in a three-dimensional geographic information system. Various methods can be used to create polygons by drawing points on the surface using topographic information or extracting the height value of each measurement point on the surface in order to display large quantities on the surface. Among the various types of data expression methods, this study attempts a data construction and display method to improve visualization performance of time series measurement data expressed on the surface, and examines its procedures and strengths and weaknesses.

For predictive flooded area susceptibility mapping, this study applied and verified probability model and the frequency ratio using a geographic information system (GIS) and frequency raio. Flooded areas were identified in the study area of field surveys, For predictive flooded area susceptibility mapping, this study applied and verified probability model and the frequency ratio using a geographic information system (GIS) and frequency raio. Flooded areas were identified in the study area of field surveys, and maps of the topography, geology, landcover and green infrastructure were constructed for a spatial database. The factors that influence flooded areas occurrence, such as slope gradient, slope, aspect and curvature of topography and distance from darinage, were calculated from the topographic database. Lithology and distance from fault were extracted and calculated from the geology database. The frequency ratio coefficient is overlaid for flooded areas susceptibility mapping as each factor's ratings. Then the flooded areas susceptibility map was verified and compared using the existing flooded areas. As the verification results, the frequency ratio model showed 82% in prediction accuracy. The method can be used to reduce hazards associated with flooded areas and to plan land use.

Geographic Information System(GIS) is useful to preserve cultural heritage and land use management using both spatial information management technique and spatial analysis function in cultural heritage management. The purpose of this study is to build a database of pottery and kiln sites in South Korea, to analyze site locations and finally to make prediction model. The locations of 1,200 sites are put into GIS database. Such factor elevation, slope angle, aspect, horizontal/vertical distance from the nearest water are analyzed. Each factor was statistically analyzed on GIS and represented to rank 1-5. Pottery/kiln can be predicted by the spatial analysis function in overlay methods. As a result of this study, preliminary application of prediction model shows that the high potential area is between the slope and alluvial plain. Field survey in the Sungbuk-dong in Daejeon city supports the preliminary result. More data can make improve efficient prediction model in unknown areas.

Recently, due to applicability increase of vector data based digital map for geographic information and evolution of geographic measurement techniques, large volumed GIS(geographic information service) services having high resolution and large volumed data are flowing actively. This paper proposed an efficient vector map compression technique using the SEC(spatial energy compaction) based on classified bins for the vector map having 1cm detail and hugh range. We encoded polygon and polyline that are the main objects to express geographic information in the vector map. First, we classified 3 types of bins and allocated the number of bits for each bin using adjacencies among the objects. and then about each classified bin, energy compaction and or pre-defined VLC(variable length coding) were performed according to characteristics of classified bins. Finally, for same target map, while a vector simplification algorithm had about 13%, compression ratio in 1m resolution we confirmed our method having more than 80% encoding efficiencies about original vector map in the 1cm resolution. Also it has not only higher compression ratio but also faster computing speed than present SEC based compression algorithm through experimental results. Moreover, our algorithm presented much more high performances about accuracy and computing power than vector approximation algorithm on same data volume sizes.

The purpose of this study is to present a method for quantitative analysis of flooding at the flood plain in an ungauged area using satellite rainfall and global geographic data. For this, flooding of the Tumen/Namyang area in the Duman-gang(Riv.) was simulated and the flood conditions were quantitatively analyzed. The IMERG data, a rainfall data derived from satellite images, was used as rainfall data. The GRM model was applied to the watershed runoff simulation, and the G2D model was applied to the flooding simulation of the Tumen/Namyang area. Flood event caused by Typhoon Lionrock in August 2016 was applied. Recorded peak discharge of the Tumen/Namyang region was used to verify the runoff simulation results. To verify the result of the inundation simulation, the flood situation collected through field survey and satellite image data before and after the flood were used. The peak flow rates by the runoff simulation and flood record were 7,639㎥/s and 7,630㎥/s, respectively, with a relative error of about 0.1%. In the flood simulation, the results were similar to the flooding ranges identified in the survey data and satellite images. And the changes of flooding depth and flooding time in the flood plain in Tumen/Namyang area could also be assessed. The methods and results of this study will be useful for the quantitative assessment of floods in the ungauged areas.

The purpose of this study was to find the method of spatial analysis using GIS that would best reflect the characteristics of study area. The purpose was successfully achieved. In order to carry out multicriteria decision analysis of the study results, the spatial analysis process reflecting the characteristics of study area was examined through stages of evaluation criteria standardization and evaluation indicator weighting decision. In the stage of evaluation criteria standardization, the characteristics of study area could be reflected through the adjustment of critical when converting a real value to a general value. In the stage of evaluation indicator weighting determination, the characteristics of the study area were reflected using the present condition of land use. The results of evaluating the grades of development-potential regions by reflecting characteristics of study area showed high correlativity between already developed region and new developing region. Such results show that, in spatial analysis, by combining expert questionnaire survey and literature survey, this method which reflects the characteristics of an area is very reasonable.

Recent rapid urban expansion and crowding of various industrial facilities has affected the features of a significant part of downtown area, resulting in areas having buildings with a wide range of height and the foothills. To compute a velocity pressure exposure coefficient, namely the design wind speed factor, this study defines ground surface roughness by utilizing concentration analysis for the height of each building. After obtaining spatial data by extracting a building layer from digital maps, the study area was partitioned for the concentration analysis and to allow investigation of the frequency distribution of building heights. Concentration analysis by building height was determined with the Variation-to-Means Ratio (VMR) and Poisson distribution analysis using a buildings distribution chart, with statistical significance determined using Chi-square verification. Applying geographic information systems (GIS) with the architectural information made it possible to estimate a velocity pressure exposure coefficient factor more quantitatively and objectively, by including geographic features, as compared to current methods. Thus, this method is expected to eliminate inaccuracies that arise when building designers calculate the velocity pressure exposure coefficient in subjective way, and to help increase the wind resistance of buildings in a more logical and cost-effective way.
When analyzing geographical phenomena, two properties need to be considered. One is the spatial dependence structure and the other is a variation or an uncertainty inhibited in a geographic space. Two problems are encountered due to the properties. Firstly, spatial dependence structure, which is conceptualized as spatial autocorrelation, generates heterogeneous geographic landscape in a spatial process. Secondly, generic statistics, although suitable for dealing with stochastic uncertainty, tacitly ignores location information im plicit in spatial data. GIS is a versatile tool for manipulating locational information, while spatial statistics are suitable for investigating spatial uncertainty. Therefore, integrating spatial statistics to GIS is considered as a plausible strategy for appropriately understanding geographic phenomena of interest. Geographic hot-spot analysis is a key tool for identifying abnormal locations in many domains (e.g., criminology, epidemiology, etc.) and is one of the most prominent applications by utilizing the integration strategy. The article aims at reviewing spatial statistical perspective for analyzing spatial processes in the framework of GIS by carrying out empirical analysis. Illustrated is the analysis procedure of using spatial scan statistic for detecting clusters in the framework of GIS. The empirical analysis targets for identifying spatial clusters of breast cancer incidents in Erie and Niagara counties, New York.

This study gropes for historical geographic approach to regional research in view of new regional geography. A geographical methodology in regional geography pursues the dialectics of concrete totalities. Regional researches think that social processes interact with the uniqueness of regional characteristics and that region is a historical unit which changes dynamically. Time in regional changes is understood in terms of a dialectics of continuity and break. Transition from feudalism to capitalism is the important period which is captured continuity and break simultaneously. Research objects in this research are money, market and city. Money symbolizes transition to capitalism, and market and city have the importance in transition from feudalism to capitalism In Korea, historical geographic approach to money, market and city both in the era of opening ports and in the Japanese colonial times in Korea are important objects in regional geography. Colonial urban research in view of money and market from the era of opening ports to the Japanese colonial times in Korea is a theme which includes a dialectic of concrete totalities in historical geographic approach in regional geography.
