Objectives: Abrupt changes in air pollution levels associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak present a unique opportunity to evaluate the effects of air pollution on influenza risk, at a time when emission sources were less active and personal hygiene practices were more rigorous. Methods: This time-series study examined the relationship between influenza cases (n=22 874) and air pollutant concentrations from 2018 to 2021, comparing the timeframes before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in and around Thailand's Khon Kaen province. Poisson generalized additive modeling was employed to estimate the relative risk of hospitalization for influenza associated with air pollutant levels. Results: Before the COVID-19 outbreak, both the average daily number of influenza hospitalizations and particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 ㎛ or less (PM2.5) concentration exceeded those later observed during the pandemic (p<0.001). In single-pollutant models, a 10 ㎍/m3 increase in PM2.5 before COVID-19 was significantly associated with increased influenza risk upon exposure to cumulative-day lags, specifically lags 0-5 and 0-6 (p<0.01). After adjustment for co-pollutants, PM2.5 demonstrated the strongest effects at lags 0 and 4, with elevated risk found across all cumulative-day lags (0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 0-4, 0-5, and 0-6) and significantly greater risk in the winter and summer at lag 0-5 (p<0.01). However, the PM2.5 level was not significantly associated with influenza risk during the COVID-19 outbreak. Conclusions: Lockdown measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic could mitigate the risk of PM2.5-induced influenza. Effective regulatory actions in the context of COVID-19 may decrease PM2.5 emissions and improve hygiene practices, thereby reducing influenza hospitalizations.
The aim of the present study is to develop an elemental approach based on the differential quadrature method for free vibration analysis of cracked thin plate structures. For this purpose, the equations of motion are established using the classical plate theory. The well-known Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM) is utilized to discretize the governing equations on each computational subdomain or element. In this method, the differential terms of a quantity field at a specific computational point should be expressed in a series form of the related quantity at all other sampling points along the domain. However, the existence of any geometric discontinuity, such as a crack, in a computational domain causes some problems in the calculation of differential terms. In order to resolve this problem, the multi-block or elemental strategy is implemented to divide such geometry into several subdomains. By constructing the appropriate continuity conditions at each interface between adjacent elements and a crack tip, the whole discretized governing equations of the structure can be established. Therefore, the free vibration analysis of a cracked thin plate will be provided via the achieved eigenvalue problem. The obtained results show a good agreement in comparison with those found by finite element method.

In this paper, the bending behavior of single-walled carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated plates is studied using various shear deformation plate theories. Several types of reinforcement material distributions, a uniform distribution (UD) and three functionally graded distributions (FG), are inspected. A generalized higher-order deformation plate theory is utilized to derive the field equations of the CNTRC laminated plates where an analytical technique based on Navier's series is utilized to solve the static problem for simply-supported boundary conditions. A detailed numerical analysis is carried out to examine the influence of carbon nanotube volume fraction, laminated composite structure, side-to-thickness, and aspect ratios on stresses and deflection of the CNTRC laminated plates.
This study was conducted to derive optimal design floods by Gamma distribution models of the annual maximum series at eight watersheds along Geum , Yeong San and Seom Jin river Systems, Design floods obtained by different methods for evaluation of parameters and for plotting positions in the Gamma distribution models were compared by the relative mean errors and graphical fit along with 95% confidence interval plotted on Gamma probability paper. The results were analyzed and summarized as follows. 1.Adequacy for the analysis of flood flow data used in this study was confirmed by the tests of Independence, Homogeneity and detection of Outliers. 2.Basic statistics and parameters were calculated by Gamma distribution models using Methods of Moments and Maximum Likelihood. 3.It was found that design floods derived by the method of maximum likelihood and Hazen plotting position formular of two parameter Gamma distribution are much closer to those of the observed data in comparison with those obtained by other methods for parameters and for plotting positions from the viewpoint of relative mean errors. 4.Reliability of derived design floods by both maximum likelihood and method of moments with two parameter Gamma distribution was acknowledged within 95% confidence interval.
Let R be an associative ring with identity and M be a left R-module. In this paper, we define modules that have the property (δ-CE) ((δ-CEE)), these are modules that have a δ-supplement (ample δ-supplements) in every cofinite extension which are generalized version of modules that have the properties (CE) and (CEE) introduced in [6] and so a generalization of Zöschinger's modules with the properties (E) and (EE) given in [23]. We investigate various properties of these modules along with examples. In particular we prove these: (1) a module M has the property (δ-CEE) if and only if every submodule of M has the property (δ-CE); (2) direct summands of a module that has the property (δ-CE) also have the property (δ-CE); (3) each factor module of a module that has the property (δ-CE) also has the property (δ-CE) under a special condition; (4) every module with composition series has the property (δ-CE); (5) over a δ-V -ring a module M has the property (δ-CE) if and only if M is cofinitely injective; (6) a ring R is δ-semiperfect if and only if every left R-module has the property (δ-CE).
Although stellar flares have a long history of observations, there are few concrete understanding about underlying physical processes and meaningful correlations with other stellar properties. Most of previous observations dealt with only a small number of sample stars, and therefore not sufficient to support generalized statistical studies. Based on one-month long MMT time-series observations of the open cluster M37, we monitored light variations of nearly 2,500 M-dwarf stars and successfully identified 606 flare events from 422 stars. This is a rare attempt to estimate true flare rates and properties among many stars of the same age and mass group. For each flare, we considered both observational and physical parameters including flare shape, duration before and after the peak, baseline magnitude before and after the peak, peak magnitudes, total energy and peak energy, etc. We find significant correlations between some of key parameters over a wide range of energy ($Er=10^{32}{\sim}10^{36}ergs$). For instance, regardless of stellar luminosities, the energy power spectrum of flares can be approximated by a power law (${\beta}=0.83-0.97$). This suggests that flares follow similar physical mechanisms for atmospheric heating and cooling among these low-mass stars. From this MMT data set, we derived an average flaring rate of $0.019 hr^{-1}$ among flare stars and $0.003 hr^{-1}$ for all M-dwarf candidates. We will report the details of our analysis and discuss physical implications.
The effect of relaxation times is studied on plane waves propagating through semiconductor half-space medium by using the eigen value approach. The bounding surface of the half-space is subjected to a heat flux with an exponentially decaying pulse and taken to be traction free. Solution of the field variables are obtained in the form of series for a general semiconductor medium. For numerical values, Silicon is considered as a semiconducting material. The results are represented graphically to assess the influences of the thermal relaxations times on the plasma, thermal, and elastic waves.
The present investigation is concerned with the effect of two temperatures on functionally graded (FG) nanobeams subjected to sinusoidal pulse heating sources. Material properties of the nanobeam are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a novel exponential distribution law in terms of the volume fractions of the metal and ceramic constituents. The upper surface of the FG nanobeam is fully ceramic whereas the lower surface is fully metal. The generalized two-temperature nonlocal theory of thermoelasticity in the context of Lord and Shulman's (LS) model is used to solve this problem. The governing equations are solved in the Laplace transformation domain. The inversion of the Laplace transformation is computed numerically using a method based on Fourier series expansion technique. Some comparisons have been shown to estimate the effects of the nonlocal parameter, the temperature discrepancy and the pulse width of the sinusoidal pulse. Additional results across the thickness of the nanobeam are presented graphically.
Under the condition of a common narrowband target signal and interference signals from several directions, the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) method using the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) for adaptive beamforming has been exploited successfully However, in the case of wideband signals, the length of the adaptive filter must be extended. As a result, the complexity of the beamformer increases, which makes real-time implementation difficult. In this paper, we improve the convergence characteristics of the adaptive filter using the transform domain normalized least mean square (NLMS) approach based on the subband GSC structure without the increase of complexity. Besides, the M-MAX algorithm, which is one of various selective coefficient updating methods, is employed in order to remarkably reduce the computational cost without decreasing the convergence quality. With the combination of these methods, we propose a computationally efficient wideband adaptive beamformer and verify its efficiency through a series of simulations.

The present paper aims at developing a method to accommodate multi-surface concrete plasticity from the point of view of a consistency concept applied to general tangent operators. The idea is based on a Taylor series expansion of the actual effective stress at the stress point corresponding to the previous accumulated true stresses plus the current increment values, initially taken to be elastic. The proposed algorithm can be generalized for any multi-surface criteria combination and has been tested here for typical cement-based materials. A few examples of application are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the multi-surface technique as used to a combination of Rankine and Drucker-Prager yield criteria.
