  • The local horizintal flux of tidal energy is characterized by the surface density $\omega$ = $\rho$ g h ζ u ($\rho$ - sea water density, g - gravitation, h - depth, ζ - tidal surface elevation, u - vertically averaged tidal current velocity vector). In general the flux vector $\omega$ comprises active and reactive components whose relation determines the local structure of a tidal wave.(omitted)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of special configuration for wayfinding in general hospitals. To that end, the study categorizes four different hospitals, according to the type of their wayfinding systems. It aims at utilizing the result of the analysis for wayfinding system in general hospitals by applying three elements of analysis methods', perpetual access, depth, and intelligibility. The study result shows as follows: First, there is no difference in special hierarchy when hospitals are analyzed and divided by halls and streets. It means that outpatient departments are located by spatial function and characteristics rather than form of spatial configuration. Second, we found that fewer direction changes are conducive to easier circulation in terms of wayfinding, when we analyzed spatial depth from the main entrances to the outpatient departments. Third, regarding intelligibility, intelligibility of Chungang University Hospital ranked highest. Kunkook University Hospital, Dongkook University Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively. It means that difficulty level of wayfinding is not decided by the characteristics of special configuration such as hospital hall and hospital streets but depends on location planning. The difficulty level of wayfinding mainly relies on location planning.

  • A rainfall simulation and forecasting technique that can generate daily rainfall sequences conditional on multi-model ensemble GCMs is developed and applied to data in Korea for the major rainy season. The GCM forecasts are provided by APEC climate center. A Weather State Based Downscaling Model (WSDM) is used to map teleconnections from ocean-atmosphere data or key state variables from numerical integrations of Ocean-Atmosphere General Circulation Models to simulate daily sequences at multiple rain gauges. The method presented is general and is applied to the wet season which is JJA(June-July-August) data in Korea. The sequences of weather states identified by the EM algorithm are shown to correspond to dominant synoptic-scale features of rainfall generating mechanisms. Application of the methodology to seasonal rainfall forecasts using empirical teleconnections and GCM derived climate forecast are discussed.

  • A canonical correlation analysis(CCA)-based method is proposed for prediction of future climate change which combines information from ensembles of atmosphere-ocean general circulation models(AOGCMs) and observed climate values. This paper focuses on predictions of future climate on a regional scale which are of potential economic values. The proposed method is obtained by coupling the classical CCA with empirical orthogonal functions(EOF) for dimension reduction. Furthermore, we generate a distribution of climate responses, so that extreme events as well as a general feature such as long tails and unimodality can be revealed through the distribution. Results from real data examples demonstrate the promising empirical properties of the proposed approaches.

  • In summary, we have demonstrated soft lithographic application of HA (or polysaccharides in general) by means of ${\mu}CP$ and molding and constructed well-defined patterns of proteins and cells of various substrates including glass, silicon dioxides, poly(HEMA), polystyrene culture dishes, and biodegradable PLGA. These results suggest that HA could be used as a general platform on hydrophilic substrates.

Water Masses and Flow Fields of the Southern Ocean Measured by Autonomous Profiling Floats (Argo floats)

  • Using data from Argo floats collected in the Southern Ocean, we describe water mass prop erties and flow fields at intermediate levels (1000m and 2000m levels). Water mass properties from Argo floats, which are consistent with those from previous hydrographic surveys, reflect the movement of the floats well even without quality control on the Argo data. Since the flow fields from the Argo floats do not cover the entire Southern Ocean, we could not obtain a general circulation pattern, especially at the 2000m level. We, however, can confirm the general eastward tendency due to ACC largely following the topography.

  • The aim of this study is to propose the desirable plan of the diagnostic radiology department in general hospital. The main contents and results of this study are as follows. 1. By investigating and analyzing the activities and circulation of the patients and staffs in diagnostic radiology department, the activity model of the department was extracted. 2. The types of operating system of the department were extracted and activity model by the operating systems were made. 3. The types of the plan of the department were classified into three types, such as confusing-corridor type, separated-corridor type and contract type. 4. After dividing them into eight types in detail, the merits and demerits of each type were analyzed. 5. Among those types contact types were evaluated best in comparison with the other types in terms of efficiency of staff's work, access of patients to staffs and reduction of staffs movement.

  • With the change of funeral customs, funeral facilities in general hospitals are prevailing in recent years. In order to cope with this change, many funeral facilities are built in hospitals in significant sizes. Architectural considerations for funeral facilities are to be developed. In this research, based on the case analysis of the funeral facilities which are in operation, characteristics of spatial composition in those facilities are analyzed from the viewpoint of users and the result is organized in to a set of proposed guidelines for their space design. The analysis includes definition and classification of functional space, plan type, circulation and spatial atmosphere.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest reasonable composition and layout of a nurse station and attached spaces-which are central sector of patient caring in the inpatient department- in the view of funtional efficiency. The method of this study is examining other studies and case study of inpatient department in general hospitals. through this research we find out the plan type of inpatient department and layout of nurse station and attached spaces in the view of 'the efficiency of circulation' and 'the easiness of observation' . It is also found out that the nursing delivery system effects to the composition and layout of nurse station attached spaces. Therefore, the efficient design of inpatient department by this study can accomplish 'patient-focused' medical environment and aid to develop their health.

Simulation Assessment of GCM Model in Case of Daily Precipitation and Temperature (일 강우량 및 기온 자료의 모의를 위한 GCM 모형의 평가)

  • General Ciculation Model (GCM) 모형에 대한 평가를 본 연구에서 수행한다. 모형의 적용을 위해서는 국지적 일 강우량 및 기온자료를 이용한다. 31개의 GCM 모의를 통해 도출되는 결과가 성능 평가에서 활용되었다. 일 최대, 최소 기온와 강우량이 파키스탄 지역을 대상으로 모의되었다. 모의를 위해서는 Gridded 데이터가 적용되었으며 각각 Asian Precipitation-Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Toward Evaluation, Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature, Princeton Global Meteorological Forcing, Climate Prediction Centre에 해당된다. GCM의 순위를 결정하기 위해서는 Symmetrical Uncertainty 방법이 이용된다. 결과를 통해서 Gridded 데이터의 종류에 따라 가장 높은 효율을 나타내는 GCM의 공간 분포가 달라진다는 점을 확인하였다. 이러한 특성은 기온과 강우량 자료 모두에서 확인된다. 기온의 경우에는 Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Australia-MK3-6-0과 Max Planck Institute-ESM-LR이 우수한 결과를 모의하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 강우량의 경우에는 EC-Earth와 MIROC가 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 파키스탄 지역에서의 기온 및 강우량 자료의 합리적 반영을 위해서는 ACCESS1-3, CESM1-BGC, CMCC-CM, HadGEM2-CC, HadGEM2-ES, MIRCO5와 같은 6개 GCM을 이용하였을 때 다양한 기상 인자를 고려한 모의가 가능한 것으로 평가된다.
