A novel method to depurate β-lactam antibiotic residues by administration of a broad-spectrum β-lactamase enzyme in fish tissues

  • As a novel strategy to remove ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotic residues from fish tissues, utilization of ${\beta}$-lactamase, enzyme that normally degrades ${\beta}$-lactam structure-containing drugs, was explored. The enzyme (TEM-52) selectively degraded ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotics but was completely inactive against tetracycline-, quinolone-, macrolide-, or aminoglycoside-structured antibacterials. After simultaneous administration of the enzyme with cefazolin (a ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotic) to the carp, significantly lowered tissue cefazolin levels were observed. It was confirmed that the enzyme successfully reached the general circulation after intraperitoneal administration, as the carp serum obtained after enzyme injection could also degrade cefazolin ex vivo. These results suggest that antibiotics-degrading enzymes can be good candidates for antibiotic residue depuration.

우리나라에서 계절별 일교차의 분포 특성과 그 원인 (Characteristics of Seasonal Mean Diurnal Temperature Range and Their Causes over South Korea)

  • Characteristics of seasonal mean diurnal temperature range (DTR) and their causes over South Korea are investigated using the 60 stations data of Korea Meteorological Administration from 1976 to 2005. In general, the seasonal mean DTR is greatest during spring (in inland area) and least during summer (urban and coastal area). The spatial and seasonal variations of DTR are closely linked with the land surface conditions (especially vegetation activity and soil moisture) and atmospheric conditions (cloud amount, precipitation, local circulation). The seasonal mean DTR shows a decreasing trend at the major urban areas and at the north-eastern part of South Korea. Whereas, it shows an increasing trend at the central area of the southern part. Decreasing and increasing trends of DTR are more significant during summer and fall, and during spring and winter. The decrease (increase) of DTR is mainly caused by the stronger increase of daily minimum (maximum) temperature than daily maximum (minimum) temperature. The negative effects of precipitation and cloud amount on the DTR are greater during spring and at the inland area than during winter and at the coastal area. And the effect of daytime precipitation on the DTR is greater than that of nighttime precipitation.

  • Objective : Oriental medical treatment may be possible or effective in patients with facial palsy and hearing disturbance caused by traumatic disorder Methods : The authors observed objectively improvement state of patient that treated by acupuncture, herbal medicine Results : 1. A Facial nerve travel long and narrow bone canal in temporal bone. so slow progressive palsy is caused by nerve swelling and impedimental blood circulation in bone canal, if bruise happens. 2. A patient with traumatic facial palsy, acupuncture, herbal medicine(Igigeopung-tang, Boicyangwitang etc.), electro acupuncture are effective to improving symptoms. 3. Despite acupuncture treatment is taken, hearing disturbance is not improved. 4. In general, everyone consider surgical operation first of all, in the case of having traumatic facial palsy. Though this case, the author are thought that can attempt access of Oriental medical treatment without doing surgical operation.

기후변화에 따른 북극해 빙해역 변화 (Projected Sea-ice Changes in the Arctic Sea under Global Warming)

  • This study examines changes in the Arctic sea ice associated with global warming by analyzing the climate coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) provided in the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. We selected nine models for better performance under 20th century climate conditions based on two different criteria, and then estimated the changes in sea ice extent under global warming conditions. Under projected 21st century climate conditions, all models, with the exception of the GISS-AOM model, project a reduction in sea ice extent in all seasons. The mean reduction in summer (-63%) is almost four times larger than that in winter (-16%), resulting an enhancement of seasonal variations in sea ice extent. The difference between the models, however, becomes larger under the 21st century climate conditions than under 20th century conditions, thus limiting the reliability of sea-ice projections derived from the current CGCMs.

기후변화에 따른 우리나라 특산식물의 잠재적 분포적지 변화 예측 - 모데미풀을 중심으로 - (Projecting Climate Change Impact on the Potential Distribution of Endemic Plants (Megaleranthis saniculifolia) in Korea)

  • The importance of the genetic value of native plants has been raised recently after the adoption of Nagoya Protocol. In this stream, this research focused on the future distribution of Megaleranthis saniculifolia which has been evolved and adapted to Korean natural environment and classified as an endemic endangered species by IUCN. The distribution of the species in future are projected based on 'present potential distribution area' by adopting SRES (Special Report on Emission Scenarios) A1B climate change scenario using 6 types of GCM (General Circulation Model). The major results of the research are as follows : habitats of Megaleranthis saniculifolia. (1) will be reduced by 44% nation wide; (2) in Chungcheongngnam Do and Jeollanam Do will be the most affected; and (3) in high altitude in Chungcheongbuk Do, Gyunggi Do and Gangwon Do will be relatively less affected.

FAO-AquaCrop을 이용한 기후변화가 벼 증발산량 및 수확량에 미치는 영향 모의 (Simulating Evapotranspiration and Yield Responses of Rice to Climate Change using FAO-AquaCrop)

  • The impacts of climate change on yield and evapotranspiration of rice have been modeled using AquaCrop model developed by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Climate change scenario downscaled by Mesoscale Model 5 (MM5) regional model from ECHO-G General Circulation Model (GCM) outputs by Korea Meteorological Research Institute (METRI) was used in this study. Monthly average climate data for baseline (1971-2000) and three time periods (2020s, 2050s and 2080s) were used as inputs to the AquaCrop model. The results showed that the evapotranspiration after transplanting was projected to increase by 4 % (2020s), 8 % (2050s) and 14 % (2080s), respectively, from the baseline value of 464 mm. The potential rice yield was 6.4 t/ha and water productivity was 1.4 kg/$m^3$ for the baseline. The potential rice yield was projected to increase by 23 % (2020s), 55 % (2050s), and 98 % (2080s), respectively, by the increased photosynthesis along with the $CO_2$ concentration increases. The water productivity was projected to increase by 19 % (2020s), 44 % (2050s), and 75 % (2080s), respectively.

환각성 약물범죄와 경호안전상의 대응방안 (Measures against Security Safety and Hallucinogenic Drug Crimes)

  • Troublesome problems are being caused by hallucinogenic drugs which come not only from illegal narcotics but also from unprohibited general drug-kinds such as cough-remedy agents of textromerupan, namely, Lamina, Rubi-king and the likes. Abuse and misuse of narcotics permeated into and threatens mental health of socially-known peoples, actor, actress, talents and businessmen as well. This study especially dealt with problems related with Mesampetamin, Rurajaepam, Texstrometropan and Karisofrodol which affects mental behaviour, and considered counter-measures through analysis and developed appropriate system of goods circulation for guidance to be complied by the medicine professionalists. The guidance sought here is recommended to the government ministries for further enforcement of crack-down of the drug crimes. Arquesa in method is recommend as a method of identifying behaviors and facial expressions of abusers and misusers of narcotics at the spot in place. This study is directed to curtailing hallucinogenic drugs use for absolute preventive security by detecting out black dealers of narcotics supplying to the abusers and misusers. There is a need of special education program to cut off the flow of narcotics or drugs crimes into official security force as well as private security personnel. This study introduced a priority and emphasis of real augmentation to theory and practice of the modern scientific security which can protect the mental health of the guarded persons as well especially in the light of security safety curriculum at the school.

흉부수술 환자에서의 CPK 와 LDH I soenzyme 의 변화 (Comparison of serum isoenzyme levels of CPK and LDH in patients ungergoing thoracic operations)

  • A analysis of CPK & LDH Isoenzyme was done on the consecutive patients undergoing thoracic operations from July 1982 to October 1982 in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital. Eighteen patients were analysed by three groups, such as open heart surgery [group A], major thoracic operation [group B] , minor thoracic operation group [group C]. In all patients serial determination of total level and Isoenzyme of CPK, LDH wad done on preoperative operative and up to 8th post-operative day, The results obtained are as follows. 1. The average value of serum CPK before the operation was 61 IU/L. The value of serum CPK was increased following the operation mainly MM portion and reached to the maximal level of 536107 IU/L in A group 1200191 IU/L in B group, 306150 IU/L in C group on the first postoperative day. The enzyme activity was gradually decreased thereafter and returned to the normal range on the 3rd or 4th day after the operation. 2. The average value of serum LDH before the operation was found to be 83 IU/L. The value was increased during the operation and reached to the maximal level of 481108 IU/L in group A, 14827 I U/L in group B, 10035 IU/L in group C on the second day after the operation. The enzyme activity was gradually decreased thereafter and returned to the normal range on the seventh day after the operation. The enzyme activity was dependent to the duration of operation, severity of muscle damage, type of thoracotomy, effect of extracorporeal circulation, state of disease.

좌심방 점액종 2례 보고 (Left atrial myxoma: 2 cases report)

  • The primary cardiac tumor was considered as a form of disease with poor prognosis in the past and it was hardly diagnosed before post mortem autopsy. But recent development of diagnostic procedure and the cardiac surgery using extracorporeal circulation increased the accuracy of diagnosis and the opportunity of successful treatment. The authors present two cases of left atrial myxoma which experienced during recent 4 years between 1979 and 1982. A 33 year old woman admitted with severe shortness of breath, generalized edema, ascites and the evidence of hepatopathy resulted from right sided heart failure. Preoperatively, the patient was treated with conservative medication to improve general condition for a few days. The tumor mass was removed successfully under the cardiopulmonary bypass. She, however, died of myocardial dysfunction showing low blood pressure. The tumor mass weighed 22gm and measured 5.2x4.5x3.6 cm in size. A 60 year old man admitted with shortness of breath on exertion and an episode of fainting. Following the removal of tumor mass under the cardiovascular bypass, the clinical course was satisfactory with no complication. The tumor mass weighed 105gm and measured 9x4x5 cm in size.

바이오에탄올 연료에 대한 FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle)용 연료펌프모터의 내구성에 관한 연구 (A Study of Fuel Pump Durability on the Bio-ethanol for FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) System)

  • FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) is the vehicle that can be used liberally from gasoline to E100(Ethanol 100%) for fuel. Recently, interest in the bio-fuel is increased by the environmental factors like exhaustion of the fossil fuel and ruduction of greenhouse gases. For the reason, adopting of FFV is activated in the world including North and South America. In general, bio-ethanol has highly corrosive substance in compare with gasoline. In the part of fuel system, corrosion can make a safety problem in case of fuel leakage and engine starting problem. So the fuel system of FFV have to be made of high corrosion-resistant materials. This study examined the effect of bio-ethanol on the durability properties according to component materials in FFV fuel pump motor and regulator using the High Temperature Fuel Circulation Test.
