임상간호사의 성별, 성역할정체감에 따른 병원폭력 경험과 병원폭력에 대한 태도 (Experience of Violence and Hospital Violence Attitude according to Gender and Gender-Role Identity of Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine differences in experiences of violence and hospital violence attitude according to gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses. Methods: The quota sampling method, was used to select the research subjects. They were divided into two groups male and female nurses who worked for three general hospitals or higher level-hospitals in Incheon and Gyeongbuk. The data of 219 subjects was used for final analysis. The IBM SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the data t-test and ANOVA. Results: According to gender, the hospital violence experience of female nurses was oserved frequently when the verbal violence came from guardians, and when the physical threats came from others. For male nurses, the experiences of hospital violence was obserbed. According to gender, the hospital violence attitude revealed significant differences in female nurses that the negative attitude was higher (t=-4.69, p<.001). According to gender-role identity, the undifferentiated and femininity showed significant differences (F=4.86 p=.003). Conclusion: The differentiated strategies of coping measures and violence preventive education considering the gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses would help formulate measures for the effective management of hospital violence.

A Gender Comparative Study on South Korean Youth Internet Addiction

  • As a part of advanced technology society, South Korean youth have been accessing the Internet at a very high pace. The Internet overuse could yield addiction where may be a serious psychological disorder of this century. The literature remarks that gender could make a significant difference on internet addiction. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of gender variable on internet addiction for a sample of South Korean university students (n = 815; 312 females and 503 males). The instrument had two sections; the demographics and twenty Internet Addiction survey items based on a five level scale; "Rarely, Occasionally, Frequently, Often and Always". The results showed that general tendency among the participants appeared between "Occasionally" and "Frequently" for internet addiction. In order to test five derived study hypotheses, the researchers conducted comparative statistical tests. The t-tests revealed that gender made statistically significant differences on nineteen items where males were higher than females showing that males significantly spend more time on the Internet than females. Additionally, t-tests results showed that seventeen of the survey items showed statistically significant differences with respect to types of technology dominant environment. The researchers created two dummy variables to combine gender and technology dominant environment variables and gender and school year variables, to have a better understanding the gender effect with one-way ANOVA. The gender difference still exists following its merge to technology dominant environment showing that the gender surpasses IT related environment. When school year combines to gender, males show higher scores for certain items, especially for freshman year.

중학생의 남녀평등의식수준 (Gender-Egalitarianism in Middle School Students)

  • Purpose : In an attempt to analyse gender-egalitarianism related to the general characteristics, sexual consciousness and behavior in middle school students, this study was carried out. This study will provide data that can be used to develop sexuality education programs on the basis of gender-egalitarianism. Method : The subjects were 141 students (70 boys and 71 girls) in 4 classes that were randomly selected from among 8 classes of first graders in a coeducational middle school, in Seoul. For the evaluation of gender-egalitarianism, a Gender Egalitarianism Scale modified by the researcher was used. Results : Major findings were as follows: 1. Gender-egalitarianism was significantly higher in girls compared with boys. All of the boys and girls, had high gender-egalitarianism in the aspect of woman's ability in groups without sexual discrimination, but low gender-egalitarianism in woman's sexual conversation and style of dress. 2. Gender-egalitarianism in boys who had experienced intersexual physical contact, categorized as holding hands, embracing, kissing, and petting, was significantly higher when compared with inexperienced boys. 3. Gender-egalitarianism significantly increased as the father's education level increased as well as the father's open-mindedness. Factors influencing gender-egalitarianism was social acceptance, the mass media, the attitudes of the school teachers, and the attitudes of older and younger student in school. Conclusions : Based on these results, boys' gender-egalitarianism was lower than that of girls. Systematic education on gender-egalitarianism, combined with sexuality education, is necessary for middle school students, especially boys. In the long term, social acceptable the, mass media, school and home life should be changed for the achievement of the equality of the sexes.

아동의 양성형 성역할 정체감 예측요인 (A Study of Predictors of Children's Dual Gender Identity)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate dual gender identity, masculine gender identity, feminine gender identity, undifferentiated gender identity with related to Sex, home environments, parental child-rearing attitude of warmth, parental child-rearing attitude of control, role division of parents and determine predictors for dual gender identity. Method : Study subjects were $6^{th}$ grade of primary students with 2,118. Data was collected from Oct to Nov 2003 by using structured questionnaire. Results : ${\cdot}$ Among the children, 345 had masculine gender identity, 529 had feminine gender identity, 526 had undifferentiated gender identity, and 718 had dual gender identity. ${\cdot}$ There were significant differences in the children's sex, mother's age, father's age, mother's educational level, father's educational level, existence of mother's job, father's job, social economic status, sex of siblings, mother's job satisfaction, family structure, family atmosphere, child-rearing attitude(warmth and control), role division of parents($p{\leq}0.001$) among 4 groups. ${\cdot}$ The significant predictors for dual gender identity were children's sex (OR = 0,196, P =0.001), father's age(OR = 31.053, p = 0.020), mother's educational level(OR = 43,980, p = 0.001), father's job(OR=27.465, p = 0.001), social economic status(OR=O.941, p=0.001), sex of siblings(OR = 0.329, p = 0.005), mother's job satisfaction(OR = 0.673, p =0.001), family structure(OR = 0.887, p = 0.001), family atmosphere(OR = 23.786, p = 0.001), parental Child-rearing attitude of warmth(OR = 8.043, p = 0.001) and child-rearing attitude of control(OR = 0.666, p = 0.005), role division of parents(OR = 3.009, p = 0.001). Conclusions : These findings suggest the necessity of broad understandings about factors which influence dual gender role, and construction of combinative model. Also they suggest parent education for establishment of children's dual gender identity.

성차별경험이 정당한 세상에 대한 믿음에 미치는 영향: 성별집단자존감을 조절요인으로 (The effect of perceived gender discrimination on belief in a just world: Gender collective self-esteem as a moderator)

  • 본 연구에서는 개인자존감을 통제한 상태에서 성별집단자존감이 성차별경험과 정당한 세상에 대한 믿음(Belief in a just world; 이하 BJW)간의 관계를 조절하는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 수도권에 거주하는 300명의 일반 여성을 대상으로 성차별경험, 개인자존감, 성별집단자존감, BJW를 측정하였고, 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 개인자존감을 통제한 상태에서, 성별집단자존감이 성차별경험과 BJW간의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 성별집단자존감이 높을수록, 성차별경험이 BJW에 미치는 부정적 영향이 감소하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 성별집단자존감의 하위유형(멤버쉽, 사적, 공적, 정체성)이 각각 성차별경험과 BJW 간의 관계를 조절하는지 살펴보았는데, 그 결과, 정체성을 제외한 나머지 하위유형의 조절효과가 유의한 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 한계점, 후속연구를 위한 제언, 그리고 상담적 함의를 논의하였다.

성인초기 남녀의 성차별 메타-인식에 대한 잠재프로파일 분석과 유형별 성역할갈등, 이성과의 거리감, 성차별 논쟁에 대한 지지도 차이 (Latent Profile Analysis of Meta-Awareness of Gender Discrimination Among Korean Young Adults: Group Differences in Gender Role Conflict, Sense of Distance from the Opposite Sex, and Support for Gender Discrimination Issues)

  • 본 연구는 성별 간 갈등이 가장 극심하게 나타나는 성인초기 남녀의 성차별 메타-인식 양상을 탐색하기 위해 '여성의 남성을 향한 양가성에 대한 인식'과 '남성의 양가적 성차별에 대한 인식', '한국 사회의 성차별 실태'에 대한 지각을 측정하여 잠재프로파일 분석을 실시하고, 각 유형에 따른 성역할갈등, 이성과의 거리감, 성차별 논쟁에 대한 지지도의 차이를 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 만 18세 이상 39세 이하 남녀 330명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였고, SPSS 20.0과 Mplus 7.4 프로그램을 사용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 여성은 '성차별 둔감형 여성', '성차별 민감형 여성', '성차별 저항형 여성' 총 3가지 유형, 남성은 '성평등 인식형 남성', '역차별 인식형 남성' 총 2가지 유형이 도출되었다. 여성들은 성차별 메타-인식이 높은 유형일수록 성차별에 대한 지각과 성차별 논쟁에 대한 지지도가 높아진 반면, 남성들은 성차별 메타-인식이 높은 유형일수록 역차별에 대한 지각이 높아졌다. 남녀 모두 성차별 메타-인식 수준이 높은 유형일수록 더 높은 성역할갈등과 이성과의 거리감을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 현 한국 사회의 성별 갈등 현상에 대한 시사점과 본 연구의 제한점, 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

성 주류화의 관점에서 본 저소득 실업자에 대한 분석과 자활사업 정착을 위한 정책 제안 (An Analysis on the Low- income Unemployed and a Policy Development for the Self-supporting Program on Gender-mainstreaming Perspective)

  • In the last two decades, the welfare states have undergone the changes of restructuring towards two ways. One is a restructuring of workfare and the other is a restructuring of the gender model of welfare state. In Korea, the workfare is reflecting on the DJ Welfarism 'Productive Welfare', but the gender model has a little effect on the public policies. By the way, It is imported that has the gender perspective in approaching the self-supporting program in the public assistance representing of the DJ Welfarism. Because almost 60% of the beneficiaries of the program are women. The Gender-mainstreaming strategy criticizes for the laws, the public policies, the public programs that considered gender-neutral or gender-blinded, and then complete the equality between women and men through the modification or development of those. The approach of Gender-mainstreaming is very important strategy for not only women who are self-reliance recipient but also successful settlement of self-supporting program. Nowadays that program is not execute yet. Then we hardly have information about recipients and the results that expected from that. At this point of gender-mainstreaming, this report suggest the strategy to development and settlement of the self-supporting program in the basics of analysis for the low-income unemployed and the government policy response to unemployment. For the gender models of the self-supporting program, the most important thing is throwing the male breadwinner model and adoption the dural-earner model (the gender model) about that program. Then we must produce gender-statistics data, develop programs for public work, job replacement, job training, evaluating system, etc. with gender perspective.

보건 분야 국가 연구개발 사업에서의 성 인지성 강화 방안 (Searching for a New Policy of Gender Sensitive National R&D Projects in the field of Health)

  • 성 인지적인 연구란 연구 주체인 연구자 구성에서의 성적 불균형, 과학기술 연구결과의 수혜자들의 성적 불균형, 그리고 연구대상의 성적 불균형을 시정한 연구를 의미한다. 이 논문에서는 성 인지적인 연구란 무엇이며, 유럽 및 미국 등에서 성 인지적 연구들이 어떻게 제도화되고 있는지를 살펴보고, 이들 경험에 비추어 한국의 보건 분야 국가 연구개발사업의 성 인지성을 분석해본다. 성 인지 연구는 NIH의 "임상연구에 여성과 소수자들을 피 실험자로서 포함시키는 것에 관한 가이드라인"의 제정, 캐나다 GSBA 수단의 개발, 유럽연합 FP 프로그램의 성별영향평가를 통해 제도적인 기반을 갖추어가고 있다. 국내 국가연구개발 사업은 연구개발 사업에서 여성 연구자의 참여가 낮을 뿐만 아니라, 연구 주제에서 성 특이성들이 고려되지 못하고 있으며, 연구결과의 수혜자로서 여성의 특이성을 고려하지 않는 연구수행 등으로 성 인지성이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 성별영향평가가 제도화되고 있는 시점에서 성 인지적인 연구가 강화될 수 있도록 여러가지 제도적인 정책을 모색할 필요가 있다.

과학기술 젠더 불균형: 현황과 과제 (Gender-mainstreaming through Gender-sensitivity in Science and Technology)

  • 과학기술의 젠더 불균형을 개선하기 위한 정책적 시도가 이루어져왔음에도 불구하고 한국 과학기술계에서 여성은 여전히 과소대표되고 있다. 과학기술 젠더 불균형 개선을 위해서는 인력 구조의 측면에서만이 아니라 조직 문화, 교육 제도, 연구 환경에 걸친 다양한 분야에서 젠더 포괄성이 성공적으로 증진된 사례를 모아 분석할 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 과학기술계의 젠더 불균형을 개선하기 위해 과학기술 교육, 연구, 직업적 환경의 전반에 걸쳐 시도된 국외의 성공적 사례들을 수집하였다. 논문의 주된 논의는 다음과 같다. 우선 성공적인 젠더 다양성 증진 사례들이 과학기술계의 제도적, 문화적 환경에 대한 성인지(gender-sensitivity)적 관점에 기반을 두고 있음을 논의하고자 한다. 다음으로 성인지 관점에서 출발한 젠더 불균형 개선 시도들이 일부 여성과학기술자들의 지위 향상을 넘어 과학기술의 개선에 기여할 수 있음을 논의할 것이다. 마지막으로 본 논문은 한국의 과학기술 젠더 불균형 개선을 위한 방안을 제시할 것이다.

WID, GAD or Somewhere Else? A critical analysis of gender in Korea's international education and development

  • Over the past few decades, gender equality has been considered one of the fundamental principles and a significant crosscutting issue in international development. However, beyond applying 'gender equality' as a policy buzzword, there has been a lack of critical reviews on how generally 'gender equality in education' is understood and constructed in Korea's development programs and projects. In this regard, this paper explores the use of vocabularies and semantic meanings of gender equality in the Korean Government's Academic Cooperation Program and its 52 projects. By applying mixed contents analysis as a method, the research resulted in several findings: first, the policy papers recently highlighted Korea's directions on gender mainstreaming and gender-sensitive approaches in international development. Second, 'integrating women and girls' into education institutions was emphasized in various projects; third, the term women rather than gender were used in the texts, highlighting their position as a 'marginalized group.' Lastly, there was a lack of evidence of projects dealing with changing gender-based power relations. The constructed gendered relations and powers were identified throughout projects, usually acting as barriers to project activities. However, they were only identified, not challenged, by the program. In conclusion, whilst Korean international development and educational development discourse actively embrace Women in Development (WID) and Gender and Development (GAD) in their programs, it is time to consider the issue of gender equality from different standpoints, such as identity, rights, and capabilities and a more active engagement with Korea's domestic issues in gender discourse and practices is also needed.
