  • Most of process data control have been designed under the assumption that there are independence between observed data. However, it has been difficult to apply the traditional method to realtime data because they are autocorrelated, and they are not normally distributed. And the more, they have fluctuating means. Already the control method for these data was proposed by Markov Modulated Gaussian Process. Therefore, this study take into account MMGP's traits especially for the MMGP's autocorrelation.

  • In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution of stochastic fractional neutral differential equations with Gaussian noise or Lévy noise by using the Picard-Lindelöf successive approximation scheme. Further stability results of nonlinear stochastic fractional dynamical system with Gaussian and Lévy noises are established. Examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • The stability of general pulse-width modulation system with Gaussian random disturbance was discussed . General system is divided into nonlinear and linear elements using the conventional describing function method. The concept of the equivalent admittance was used to find the transfer characteristic of the nonlinear element of the system. In this paper the self-sustained oscillation condition in the autonomous system was derived and the results was analyzed with computer simulation.

  • In the present work, the effect of PDF selection and intermittency on the result of the numerical simulation are examined by the simulation of a turbulent methane-air jet diffusion flame. As to the PDFs, beta-function and clipped Gaussian are considered. Results for the pure mixing jet are compared with experimental results. Then, the turbulent flame is calculated for the same conditions and the results obtained for the several models are compared. It is found that the clipped Gaussian distribution coupled with consideration of intermittency recovers the experimental data very well. As to the reacting flow results, the main overall properties of the turbulent jet diffusion flame such as maximum flame temperature are less affected by the choice of the PDF. Flame height and NO emissions, on the contrary, appear to be significantly influenced.

  • A new methodology for discrete non-Gaussian probability density estimation is investigated in this paper based on a dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) and kernel functions. The estimator consists of a DBN in which the transition distribution is represented with kernel functions. The estimator parameters are determined through a recursive learning algorithm according to the maximum likelihood (ML) scheme. A discrete-type Poisson distribution is generated in a simulation experiment to evaluate the proposed method. In addition, an unknown probability density generated by nonlinear transformation of a Poisson random variable is simulated. Computer simulations numerically demonstrate that the method successfully estimates the unknown probability distribution function (PDF).

  • Due to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), images are often corrupted. In recent days, Bayesian estimation techniques to recover noisy images in the wavelet domain have been studied. The probability density function (PDF) of an image in wavelet domain can be described using highly-sharp head and long-tailed shapes. If a priori probability density function having the above properties would be applied well adaptively, better results could be obtained. There were some frequently proposed PDFs such as Gaussian, Laplace distributions, and so on. These functions model the wavelet coefficients satisfactorily and have its own of characteristics. In this paper, mixture distributions of Gaussian and Laplace distribution are proposed, which attempt to corporate these distributions' merits. Such mixture model will be used to remove the noise in images by adopting Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) estimation method. With respect to visual quality, numerical performance and computational complexity, the proposed technique gained better results.

  • Bagai et al. (1989) proposed a distribution-free test for stochastic ordering in the competing risk model, and recently Murakami (2009) utilized a standard saddlepoint approximation to provide tail probabilities for the Bagai statistic under finite sample sizes. In the present paper, we consider the Gaussian-polynomial approximation proposed in Ha and Provost (2007) and compare it to the saddlepoint approximation in terms of approximating the percentiles of the Bagai statistic. We make numerical comparisons of these approximations for moderate sample sizes as was done in Murakami (2009). From the numerical results, it was observed that the Gaussianpolynomial approximation provides comparable or greater accuracy in the tail probabilities than the saddlepoint approximation. Unlike saddlepoint approximation, the Gaussian-polynomial approximation provides a simple explicit representation of the approximated density function. We also discuss the details of computations.

  • Since structural systems may fail in any one of several failure modes, computation of system reliability is always difficult. A method using numerical quadrature for computing structural system reliability with either one or more than one failure mode is presented in this paper. Statistically correlated safety margin equations are transformed into a group of uncorrelated variables and the joint density function of these uncorrelated variables can be generated by using the Maximum Entropy Method. Structural system reliability is then obtained by integrating the joint density function with the transformed safety domain enclosed within a set of linear equations. The Gaussian numerical integration method is introduced in order to improve computational accuracy. This method can be used to evaluate structural system reliability for Gaussian or non-Gaussian variables with either linear or nonlinear safety boundaries. It is also valid for implicit safety margins such as computer programs. Both the theory and the examples show that this method is simple in concept and easy to implement.
