As tunnel becomes longer and larger, TBM has become one of the most popular methods of excavatio in rock. This paper describes the degree of operation the degree of availability and penetration rate of TBM and TBE applied in Namsan roadway tunnelling site. Net penetration rate was 1.62m/hr for TBM and 0.72m/hr for TBE. Net penetration rate showed no direct relation to daily advance or penetration time, but the lower bound of penetration rate could be obtained from the relation with daily advance. For both of TBM and TBE, the degree of operation and the degree of availability were 33.8% and 68.6% respectively. Life time of normal cutter was $310m^3$ for TBM and $194m^3$ for TBE, while that of center and gauge cutter was about $50m^3$. When the two machines were compared, TBM showed 80% higher penetration rate, and 40% shorter life time of cutter.
This paper presents the results of deformation measurement and numerical analysis carried out to study the behaviour of the rock mass around large underground oil storage caverns. Displacements during excavation have been monitored using borehole extensometers which had been installed before the excavation of caverns proceeded. Numerical analysis has been carried out to examine the three-dimensional behaviour of rock and the face advance effect. The input parameters for this analysis were determined from the results of laboratory and field tests. The deformation modulus of the rock mass was determined from plate loading test at the site and in-situ stresses were measured from the overcoring method with USBM deformation gauge. The results from this study gave a clear picture for three-dimensional behaviour of the rock mass, hence would be used for the optimum design.

In this paper, three dimensional magnetostatic fields are analysed using tetrahedral edge elements, magnetic vector potential and modified formulation of weighted residual method. If we define unknown variables in mesh edges, some conditions, such as Coulomb gauge condition in magnetic vector potential are naturally satisfied. So with less memory space, we can obtain more accurate solutions than the method where unknown variables are defined at nodes. Reliability and utility of this method are verified in two examples.

A structure gauge assessment is needed to ensure that a railway vehicle can run safely along a length of track without coming unacceptably close to lineside structures or equipment, or to vehicles running on adjacent tracks. This apparently straightforward question is in reality very complicated. The amount of space required for the safe passage of a railway vehicle is significantly greater than its static body profile for a number of reasons as follows: as the vehicle runs along the track, the track input excites the vehicle and it moves on its suspension. On curved track its geometric position leads to curve overthrows. A number of different approaches have been used to answer this question and some are described and specially applied to urban train by computer simulation in this paper. The program used for calculating the kinematic and swept envelope is the VAMPIRE made in U.K.
When merging various datasets the perennial problem of relative weighting arises. In case of two datasets an iterative algorithm has been developed recently that allows the rigorous determination of optimal variance components of type repro-BIQUUE even for large amounts of data, along with the estimation of the joint parameters. Here we shall present this new algorithm, and show its versatility in an example that will entail the merging of two regional geoid estimates (derived from EGM 96 and CHAMP) in terms of certain series expansions which have been proven previously to belong to the most efficient ones (e.g., wavelets, Hardy's multi-quadrics, etc.). Future attempts will be devoted to the sequential merging of altimeter and tide gauge data.
Most J-T (Joule-Thomson) refrigerators use a Giaque-Hampson type heat exchanger due to its excellent thermal performance and compactness. The cryoprobe (cryosurgical probe) treating prostate cancer usually has a dimension of 17 gauge (1.6 mm diameter), so it does not have enough space to bear a Giaque-Hampson type heat exchanger. In this paper, the triplet heat exchanger is adopted as the heat exchanger of cryoprobe, and the performance is investigated with an experimental test. The result shows that the triplet heat exchanger can be substituted for Giaque-Hampson type heat exchanger in the application of cryosurgery.

Steel bars have been widely used as the primary reinforcement for Precast Segmental Concrete Lining for TBM Tunnels. Previously, studies have been carried out to gauge the potential for steel fiber reinforcement to replace the use of steel bar reinforcements in the segmental lining to reduce the amount of the steel bar reinforcement. Steel fiber reinforcements have been investigated and widely applied to SFRC TBM linings to improve the constructability of SFRC TBM linings worldwide. However, the steel fiber reinforcement often caused punctures to the water membranes inside tunnel lining and had long-term durability deterioration issues caused by steel corrosion, as well as cosmetic problems. Therefore, this paper sought to gauge the potential of synthetic fiber reinforcements, which have proven to be very attractive substitutes for steel fiber reinforcements. This study analyzed the performance of both steel and synthetic fiber reinforcements in segmental linings and evaluated the applicability of the fiber reinforcements to the TBM Precast Concrete Segmental Linings of TBM tunnels. As a conclusion, this study demonstrates that the potential use of steel and synthetic fibers in various combination, can substitute the rebar reinforcement in the concrete mix for segmental concrete linings.

Background: Shoulder joint injection is currently performed under fluoroscopic or computed tomography scan guidance. We performed this study to determine if an ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval would have clinical usefulness. Methods: A total of 17 volunteers [12 women, 5 men; mean age 28 yr (23-32 yr)] received shoulder joint injection under multilinear ultrasound (5-10 MHz). Volunteers were positioned supinely on a table with their arm in a neutral position. The anterior shoulder region of the patient was sterilized using povidone iodine. A 24 gauge needle was introduced and directly visualized in real time as it passed obliquely from the skin surface to the inferior space of the biceps tendon. If there was little or no resistance to the injection, a contrast media (omnipaque) was injected and checked fluoroscopically. Results: Ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval was successful in all cases. The average time taken for the procedure was $27.5{\pm}16.5sec$. The vertical distance from skin to the inferior space of the biceps tendon was $1.6{\pm}0.4cm$ and the distance of needle from the skin to the inferior space of biceps tendon was $2.8{\pm}0.6cm$. The procedure was well tolerated by all volunteers. Conclusions: Ultrasound guided shoulder joint injection through rotator cuff interval is an effective, rapid, and easy-to-perform injection technique. Ultrasound guided injection enables exact needle placement and avoids the use of both ionizing radiation and iodinated contrast material.
To construct a coronal force-free magnetic field, we must impose the boundary normal current density (or three components of magnetic field) as well as the boundary normal field at the photosphere as boundary conditions. The only method that is known to implement these boundary conditions exactly is the method devised by Grad and Rubin (1958). However, the Grad-Rubin method and all its variations (including the fluxon method) suffer from convergence problems. The magnetofrictional method and its variations are more robust than the Grad-Rubin method in that they at least produce a certain solution irrespective of whether the global solution is compatible with the imposed boundary conditions. More than often, the influence of the boundary conditions does not reach beyond one or two grid planes next to the boundary. We have found that the 2D solenoidal gauge condition for vector potentials allows us to implement the required boundary conditions easily and effectively. The 2D solenoidal condition is translated into one scalar function. Thus, we need two scalar functions to describe the magnetic field. This description is quite similar to the Chandrasekhar-Kendall representation, but there is a significant difference between them. In the latter, the toroidal field has both Laplacian and divergence terms while in ours, it has only a 2D Laplacian term. The toroidal current density is also expressed by a 2D Laplacian. Thus, the implementation of boundary normal field and current are straightforward and their effect can permeate through the whole computational domain. In this paper, we will give detailed math involved in this formulation and discuss possible lateral and top boundary conditions and their meanings.
The purpose of this study was to investigate applicability of NIOSH lifting equation(NLE) to analysis of workload for patient transferring. In principle, the NLE is not applied to analyzing workload of patient transferring, because 1) the task is generally performed by two or more persons; 2) unlike ordinary objects, human body of patients is basically unstable load with their location of the center of mass significantly varying during lifting activity; and 3) the task is done in a restricted work space. This study was conducted through comparison of NIOSH lifting indexes(LIs) and L5/S1 compressive forces by 3DSSPP for patient transferring tasks performed by 2~6 persons. The results showed that LIs are linearly correlated with L5/S1 compressive forces with correlation coefficient of 0.92, which resulted in a significant simple linear regression equation for LIs and L5/S1 compressive forces. Consequently, it was concluded that the NLE is applicable to transferring patient only with slight modification. Based on the results, instead of 1.0 originally used by NIOSH, the LI of 1.5 was proposed as a gauge to estimate whether or not the task needs corrective action to reduce risk for developing lifting-related low back pain.
