Solutions of Radiative Transfer for Nongray Gases within a 3-D Cylindrical Enclosure

  • In multi-dimensional systems, various solution schemes for radiative transfer are suggested but the applicabilities and accuracies of these schemes have not yet fully tested due to the lack of reference solutions especially for nongray gases. In this paper we present some precise radiative transfer solutions for a black walled 3-dimensional cylindrical system filled with nongray gases having uniform temperature and concentration. The ray-tracing method with the $T_N$ quadrature set and the SNB model are used to obtain the radiative transfer solutions by the nongray gases. The solutions presented in this paper are proved to be quite accurate and can be regarded as the reference solutions for the radiative transfer by nongray gases.

이산화탄소-수증기 혼합가스에 대한 파장별 회색가스가중합법에서 회색가스재조합에 대한 연구 (Study on Regrouping of Gray Gases in spectral WSGGM for Arbitrary Mixtures of CO2 and H2O Gases)

  • The WSGG-based narrow band model was employed to solve the radiative transfer equations along isothermal and non-isothermal paths through $CO_2-H_2O-N_2$ gas mixtures at 1 atm. When the WSGGM is applied for arbitrary gas mixtures by considering the multiplication property of transmissivity in overlapping bands, the number of gray gases is significantly increased. To reduce the computation time, three different regrouping methods for the gray gases are tested in obtaining the mean absorption coefficient for each gray gas group. Among them, the regrouping method by minimizing the regrouping error shows the best results. For the isothermal media, 10 gray gases show fairly good agreement with the results by statistical narrow band(SNB) model which are regarded as reference solutions. For non-isothermal media, 20 gray gases show good agreement with reference solutions.

산지별 천연가스들의 열 물성치 및 연소 정보 검토 (Study on the Thermodynamic Properties and Combustion Information of Natural Gases from Various Producing Districts)

  • The diversification of import districts of natural gas is trying to prepare an increase in the demand and price. The interchangeability of natural gases should be examined prior to supply to gas appliances, although compositional differences among natural gases are not large. The object of this study is to investigate numerically the thermodynamic and transport properties as well as information on combustion of 6 natural gases. Comparing the properties of BOG1 with those of standard gas, the maximum differences of heating value, Wobbe index, air-fuel ratio, and specific heat are 10%, 4%, 10% and 5.54%, respectively. That is, the BOG1 is required careful application. However, all gases except for BOG1 show the similar properties with standard gas. Finally, the combustion information such as flame temperature and burning velocity are examined. These results will provide the useful information related to the interchangeability of various natural gases in practical combustion appliances.

The Exchange of Reduced Sulfur Gases Across the Atmosphere-Teerrestrial Biosphere Interface

  • In this review, the significance of terrestrial ecosystems in the global sulfur budget has been reviewed based on the currently available databases covering the topic. In the section 1, we describe our current understanding of natural sulfur cycle in relation to most well-known natural reservoir, oceanic environment. The sections 2 and 3 provide the fundamental pictures of the rerrestrial sulfur cycle with respect to the relative importance of its individe the fundamental pictures of the terrestrial sulfur cycle with respect to the section 3, previously reported flux values for several major sulfur gases are presented for each reservoir and are intercompared to derive representative fluxes for the respective environment. In the section 4, source mechanisms for volatile sulfur species are dealt for both microscale and macroscale processes leading to their productions. In the section 5, environmental factors controlling the exchange of biogenic sulfur gases across the air-surface have been discussed. In the section 6, environmental fate of sulfur gases released into the atmosphere has been described. Finally in tie section 7, as concluding remarksm we discuss directions and suggestions to overcome various limitations encountered from previous measurement investigations of natural sulfur cycle in diverse natural ecological systems.

PERMEATION OF PURE AND MIXED GASES THROUGH COMPOSITE MEMBRANES PREPARED BY PLASMA POLYMERLZATION OF FLUOROCARBONS

  • The permeation, solution and diffusion of simple gases ($He, H_2, O_2, N_2$ and CH$_4$) and condensible vapers($CO_2, SO_2, C_2H_4$ and $C_3H_8$), and the mixed gases ($O_2/N_2$ mixtures and $CO_2/CH_4$ mixtures) through composite membrane was studied. Composit membranes were made by deposition of aromatic fluorocarbons onto polymer substrams of porous Celgard in a microwave discharge. In the both cases of simple gases and condensible vapors, as the kinetic molecular diameter of the permeant molecules increased, the permeability decreased. However, when the kinetic molecular dimemr are similar, the condensible vapors showed higher permeabilities than that of permanent gases. The vapor solubility increased with increasing critical temperature of the vapors. However, in the case of propane, despite its high critical temperature, it showed lower solubility than other vapors. The vapor diffusivity decreased with increasing kinetic diameter of the molecule. Compared to conventional polymers, the plasma polymers showed much lower values for vapor diffusivities. The pressure of the permeant did not affect the permeability. The permeability was also not affected by the composition in cases of mixed gases.

포항 지역 지하수에 분포하는 탄화수소 가스의 지화학 (Geochemistry of the hydrocarbon gases in the Pohang Area)

  • 포항 지역의 지하수에 녹아있는 수용성 탄화수소 가스의 지화학적 특성을 파악하기 위해서 지하수를 채취하여 지하수의 성분, 추출된 가스의 함량, 탄화수소 가스의 성분 및 탄소 동위원소 분석을 실시하였다. 지하수들로부터 추출된 총 가스의 함량은 최소 27.0 ml/l, 최대 50.1 ml/l이다. 추출된 가스 중 탄화수소 성분은 메탄 $(CH_4)$이 27 ppm에서 376,420 ppm까지 나타났고 에탄 $(C_2H_6)$ 성분도 일부 시료에서 19 ppm에서 127 ppm까지 검출되었다. 지하수로부터 추출된 총 가스의 함량은 대수층 및 주변 지질에 따른 변화는 없었던 반면, 총 탄화수소의 함량은 대수층 및 주변 지질과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 대수층이 제3기층이거나 제3기 퇴적층의 두께가 두꺼운 곳에서 시추된 공의 지하수에서 탄화 수소 가스의 함량이 높은 경향을 보인다 지하수에 녹아있는 탄화수소의 함량과 지하수의 총 고형물 (T-solids)성분이 비례하는 것으로 보아 탄화수소 성분은 제3기층의 지층수에 녹아있었던 것으로 생각한다. 지하수에서 추출된 총 탄화수소 가스 중 메탄 성분은 $99.9\%$ 이상을 차지하고, 메탄 가스의 탄소 동위원소 비 $({\delta}C^{13})$$-73.1\%_{\circ}$에서 $-43.22\%_{\circ}$ 까지의 범위를 나타내는 것으로 보아 포항 지역 수용성 가스는 저온, 무산소 환경에서 메탄 생성 박테리아의 작용에 의해서 생성된 생물기원 가스로 해석된다.

등가가스를 이용한 부분예혼합 가스기기의 호환성 판정법 (Estimation Method of the Interchangeability Using Equivalent Gases in a Partial Premixed Gas Appliance)

  • 본 연구는 등가가스를 이용하여 다양한 조성의 천연가스에 대한 부분예혼합 가스기기의 호환성 판정법을 실험을 통하여 검토 제시하였다. 본 판정법을 위해, 가정용 가스레인지를 이용 등가가스와 천연가스의 화염을 비교 하였으며, 화염의 부상 및 불완전연소에 대해 측정을 하여 KS 규격과 비교하였다. 그 결과, 등가가스와 천연가스의 화염은 화염길이, 화염색, 화염모양 등의 차이가 거의 없었다. 또한 화염의 부상 발생은 웨버지수 51 MJ/$m^3$ 이상에서 안정함을 보였으며, 불완전 연소지수의 경우, 웨버지수 56.3 MJ/$m^3$에서 CO 농도가 95~100 ppm 정도를 보여주었다. 결과적으로 천연가스에 대한 화염의 부상과 불완전연소에 대해 호환 범위를 웨버지수 51~56.3 MJ/$m^3$로 제안하였으며, 이 범위 내의 천연가스는 국내 가정용 부분예혼합 가스기기에 대해 호환 가능하다는 의미이다.

한반도 배경대기 중 온실기체의 농도 변동 특성 분석 (Analysis of Variation Characteristics of Greenhouse Gases in the Background Atmosphere Measured at Gosan, Jeju)

  • Increase of the greenhouse gases emissions during last century has led remarkable changes in our environment and climate system. Continuous monitoring of atmospheric constituents over the world is positively necessary to understand these changes around us. The concentrations of greenhouse gases ($CO_2,\;CH_4,\;N_2O,\;CFCs$) have been continuously measured at Global Climate Change Monitoring station in Gosan, Jeju since January, 2002. In this study, the variation characteristics of greenhouse gases as well as their annual, seasonal and diurnal trend using the data from January, 2002 to December, 2005 were analyzed. The raw data which was used in the analysis were validated with the methods recommended by WDCGG (World Data Center for Greenhouse Gases). The concentration of $CO_2$ was increasing continuously by 2.1 ppm/year, while $CH_4$ did not show any increasing or decreasing trend clearly for 4 years. The concentration of $N_2O$ was slightly increasing and CFCs were decreasing except CFC-12 which has longer lifetime compared with other CFCs. The variations of the greenhouse gases at Gosan were shown to be consistent with the global trend. But the concentration level of $CO_2$ in Korea was more or less higher than abroad.

공기보다 가벼운 가스 사용시설의 폭발위험장소 설정방안에 대한 연구 (A Study on Classification of Explosion Hazardous Area for Facilities using Lighter-than-Air Gases)

  • There have been controversies over whether explosion hazardous area(EHA) should be classified for facilities which use lighter-than-air gases such as city gas, hydrogen and ammonia. Two view points are confronting each other: an economic piont of view that these gases are lighter than air and disperse rapidly, hence do not form EHA upon release into the atmosphere, and a safety point of view that they are also inflammable gases, hence can form EHA although the extent is limited compared to heavy gases. But various standards such as KS, IEC, API, NFPA do not exclude light gases when classifying EHA and present examples of EHA for light gas facilities. This study calculates EHA using the hypothetical volume in the IEC code where the hole sizes required for the calculation were selected according to various nominal pipe sizes in such a way to conform to the EHA data in the API code and HSL. Then, 25 leakage scenarios were suggested for 5 different pipe sizes and 5 operating pressures that cover typical operating conditions of light gas facilities. The EHA for the minimum leakage scenario(25 mm pipe, 0.01MPa pressure) was found to correspond to a hypothetical volume larger than 0.1 $m^3$(medium-level ventilation). This confirms the validity of classifying EHA for facilities using lighter-than-air gases. Finally, a computer program called HACPL was developed for easy use by light gas facilities that classifies EHA according to operating pressures and pipe sizes.

파스콘 트로프의 연기유독성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Toxic Gases and Smoke Hazard of PASCON Trough)

  • 본 연구는 파스콘 트로프의 화재시 발생되는 연기의 유독성 평가를 위해 KS F 2271에 의한 연기유해성 시험 및 NES 713방법에 의해 연소가스를 분석하고, 독성지수를 확인해 봄으로서 연소시 인체에 미치는 영향을 간접적으로 확인해 보고자 한다. 실험결과 파스콘 트로프는 KS F 2271인 건축물의 내장재료 및 구조의 난연성 시험기준에 적합한 것을 확인하였다. NES 713 방법에 의한 파스콘 제품에서 발생하는 연소가스는 이산화탄소와 일산화탄소가 전부임을 알 수 있으며, 연소가스의 독성지수는 0.944로 나타났다. 이러한 수치는 제품의 연소시 발생되는 연소가스를 30분 이상 노출되어야 위험한 농도에 이룰 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 난연성능 요구시 연기유독성 평가나 연기의 발생량을 규제하지 않고 있는 국내의 실정에 비추어 볼 때 파스콘 제품의 연소가스 독성지수는 비교적 낮은 수치이다.
