Study on the Brittle Crack Arrest Property for 9% Ni Steel by Duplex ESSO test (Duplex ESSO 시험법에 의한 9% Ni강 취성 균열정지 특성 연구)

  • A brittle fracture is one of the source of structural damage and can bring a fatal accident. The inner shell of LNG storage tank should be designed and applied to construction by ensure that no brittle crack will occur under -162℃ condition. In point of view of fracture mechanics brittle fracture in the structure could be referred as crack initiation and crack arrest. It should be designed no crack initiation. However, in the unlikely event of a brittle fracture occurring, a back-up function of arresting the brittle crack should be included for the design. In this paper investigated the characteristics of 9% Ni steel thick plates of having a capability of arresting brittle cracks under the thickness of 33 mm, 37mm, 40 mm. First, charpy test has performed to evaluate the fundamental brittle impact fracture property of 9% Ni steel under the temperature of 24℃, -162℃ and -196℃. In addition, Duplex ESSO tests were also performed under -196℃ to evaluate the capability of crack arrest for 9% Ni steel. From the experiments results, it was confirmed that all the thickness of 9% Ni steel plates exhibits sufficient brittle crack arrest fracture toughness for the application of LNG storage tank as a inner shell.

THE NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF HYDROGEN DIFFUSION FOR THE HYDROGEN LEAKAGE IN TUNNEL (터널 내 수소연료 자동차의 수소 누설로 인한 수소 확산에 대한 수치해석 연구)

  • In the present study, a numerical simulation for the diffusion of hydrogen leakage of FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle) in a tunnel was performed to aid the assessment of risk in case of leakage accident. The temporal and spatial distributions of the hydrogen concentration around FCV are predicted from the present numerical analyses. Flammable region of 4-74% and explosive region of 18-59% hydrogen by volume was identified from the present results. Factors influencing the diffusion of the hydrogen jet were examined to evaluate the effectiveness of tunnel ventilation system for relieving the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The distribution of the concentration of the leaked hydrogen for various cases can be used as a database in various applications for the hydrogen safety.

  • 안전사고 발생 위험요소가 산재한 사업장 내에서의 이상 징후를 파악할 수 있는 안전관리 시스템의 구축이 필요하다. 또한 사람이 직접 안전관리를 하는 것이 어려운 장소와 사업장 환경의 변화가 중요한 경우까지 고려하고, 실시간으로 정보를 관리하고 대처할 수 있는 방법이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 유해가스 누출에 열악한 작업환경에서 인명보호 및 안전사고 예방을 위한 작업자 중심 사고 예방을 위한 다중센서 BLE 디바이스개발과 스마트폰 서비스를 연계방법에 대한 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 AQ, AP, Motion, SmartPhone App, Server로 구성하였다.

  • In the nuclear power plant, steel or polymer liner plates are adopted to prohibit inner concrete surface contacting with gas or liquid materials. If there is an accident, the plate will be damaged, and concrete shall have final responsibility to safety requirements. In this paper, an experimental research was carried out to investigate the effects of construction joint and wet and loading condition on the permeability of concrete. The test results showed that leakage rate is decreased much more at the following cases than the others : (a)wet condition, (b)without a construction joint case, and (c)case subjected to external loads. It was noted that more reinforcement is required at the latter case.

  • This study evaluated the effect of the accidents caused by fire, explosion, and toxic gas release by using SuperChems, quantitative hazardous material release modeling software, which estimates the potential area of damage. According to the loss severity, the appropriate risk management principles can be applied. Risk management is divided into the two methods which are risk control and risk financing. Risk control includes risk avoidance, risk spreading and diversification, and risk reduction. Risk financing includes risk retention and risk transfer. The results of this study can help the related company determine the appropriate reserve fund and the amount to be insured against the third party losses according to the estimated loss severity.

  • This paper deals with the development and feasible study of the train to pedestrian protection airbag. The concept of the airbag system is to protect the pedestrian like as workers on railroad. The airbag system includes cushions, gas generators, a housing, sliding fixture, anti-bouncing airbag, and a leg protection bumper. Those things were designed and fabricated. The performance of the airbag system was evaluated in the sense of the static deployment test, drop test, dynamic motion test and field(train level) test. The deployment logic, TTF(Time to fire), and the inner pressure of the cushion were also investigated for the airbag.

  • The owner of metallic structures has a burden of responsibility for the protection of corrosion and the prevention against big accident such as gas explosion or collapse of bridge and building and so on. So, he has been spent the money and the time for corrosion monitoring and analysis of measuring data. Therefore, KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) has developed the real-time wireless remote corrosion monitoring system using by TRS(Trunked Radio System). The results of development for corrosion monitoring system are described briefly. Especially, the interfacing technology between the server and rectifier introduced in this paper.

  • This study is quantitatively assessing of safety about dispenser of hydrogen station because it is hydrogen energy to efficient safety use. The large leakage of hydrogen gas is the most important accident among others occurrence possibility in hydrogen station. It had written FT by top event and calculated unavailability, m-cutsets, leakage frequency, etc with FTA after each base event collect reliability data by reliability data handbook, THERP-HRA and estimation of the engineering.

  • A Cost-Benefit Analysis which would help us to make optical decisions among safety investment alternatives, calculating and comparing costs and benefits for facilities in chemical plants. As well as offering the related information in the decision makings for safety improvement, it promotes on-site safety activities and the efficiency of safety investments The developed Cost-Benefit Analysis will eventually contribute to our efforts in economically justifying the safety investments in chemical plants.
