This study presents the structural analysis of car a seat frame by the finite element method. The load-deformation characteristics of seat frame are simulated according to the test requirements by FMVSS. Three dimensional modeling technique is applied to the components of the seat frame. The shell, solid , gap and rigid elements are employed to model the car seat frame assembly. Numerical results show that the recliner and kunckle plate are identified as the possible weak part of frame, and the results are well consistent with the experimental static load test. The current analysis model can provide useful informations to design a new car seat and can reduce the overall design cost and time.
Use of composite steel construction with precast hollow core slabs is now popular in the UK, but the present knowledge in shear capacity of the headed shear studs for this type of composite construction is very limited. Currently, all the information is based on the results obtained from experimental push-off tests. A finite element model to simulate the behaviour of headed stud shear connection in composite beam with precast hollow core slabs is described. The model is based on finite element method and takes into account the linear and non-linear behaviour of all the materials. The model has been validated against the test results, for which the accuracy of the model used is demonstrated. Parametric studies showing the effect of the change in transverse gap size, transverse reinforcement diameter and in-situ concrete strength on the shear connection capacity are presented.
This paper presents a 3D shape optimization algorithm for electromagnetic devices using the design sensitivity analysis with finite element method. The structural deformation analysis based on the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress is used for mesh renewing. The design sensitivity and adjoint variable formulae are derived for the 3D nonlinear finite element method with edge element. The proposed algorithm is applied to the shape optimization of 3D electromagnet to get a uniform flux density at the air gap.
This paper deals with an optimal angle error reduction method of magnetic position sensor using hall effect elements. The angle detection simulation for the magnetic position sensor is performed by 3 dimensional finite element method and Taguchi method, one of the design of experiments. The magnetic position sensor is required to generate ideal sine and cosine waveforms from its hall effect elements according to rotation angle for precise angle information. However, the output signals are easy to include harmonics due to uneven magnetic field distribution from permanent magnet in the air-gap in the vicinity of hall effect elements. For the Taguchi method, three design parameters related to position of hall effect elements and shape of back yoke are selected. The characteristics of optimal magnetic position sensor are compared with those of original one in terms of simulation as well as experiment. Finally, the performances of the motor adopting original model and optimal model are represented for the purpose of verification of motor performance due to signals from magnetic position sensor.

In recent year, column member is used for square hollow section(5.H.5) and beam member is used for H-section. But 5.H.5 column has vulnerability because of low flexural stiffness between column and beam connection joints. To reinforce this vulnerability, 5.H.5 column filled with concrete and concrete slab connection compounded with H-beam is developed in many ways. In this paper, modelling of predicting behavior of various types of connections is studied using finite element method. k order to simulate the actual behavior, a three-dimensional modelling is used. A simple efficient contact algorithm with a new gap element is employed to simulate the interaction between 5.H.5 column and concrete, The modelling result$ are compared with the experimental results.
The Synchronous reluctance motor is a sinewave ac motor and it has cylindrical surfaces on both sides of the air gap. The stator is a conventional polyphase ac stator, while the rotor has internal flux barriers shaped to maximize the ratio of d-axis to g-axis reactance. This paper presents the finite element analysis and parameter measurement of the synchronous reluctance motor(SRM). The model motor is a 3-phase SRM with the segmental rotor and its rating is 0.175kw. The torque characteristic is analysed by finite element method and compared with that from measurement.
Natural frequencies of immersed square sections decrease due to a contribution of added mass to the movement of square sections. In this study, natural frequencies of square sections are obtained as a function of gap size between the square section and a rigid square wall using the finite element method. Additionally, they are used to extract the added mass effect on translational and rotation motions. Published information and studies on the translational and torsional vibration of square beams are also examined for practical use. D coupling of a square section is also investigated for multiple square sections. The suggested added mass estimation can be applicable to the spent fuel storage design of a pressurized light water modulated nuclear power plant.
Piezoelectric composite laminates are a powerful material system that offers vast options to improve structural behavior. Successful design of piezoelectric adaptive structures and testing of control laws call for highly accurate, reliable and numerically efficient numerical tools. This paper puts focus onto linear and geometrically nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of smart structures made of such a material system. For this purpose, highly efficient linear 3-node and 4-node finite shell elements are proposed. Both elements employ the Mindlin-Reissner kinematics. The shear locking effect is treated by the discrete shear gap (DSG) technique with the 3-node element and by the assumed natural strain (ANS) approach with the 4-node element. Geometrically nonlinear effects are considered using the co-rotational approach. Static and dynamic examples involving actuator and sensor function of piezoelectric layers are considered.
A full-bead of multi-layer-steel engine head gasket, taking charge of the dynamic sealing of combustion chamber, is susceptible to fatigue failure. The fatigue durability of full-bead was assessed with the finite element analysis results and the high-cycle multi-axial fatigue theory. The assessment aimed to reveal the effects of the forming parameters and dimensions of full-bead. The results show that the selection of embossing parameters producing less deformation of bead plate is beneficial for the improvement of durability while the flatting has marginal influence. The fatigue durability also improves with the increase in the width of full-bead and the radial length of bore-side flat region. However, the dimensional effects are limited due to the occurrence of snap-through.
PURPOSE. A novel retentive type of implant prosthesis that does not require the use of cement or screw holes has been introduced; however, there are few reports examining the biomechanical aspects of this novel implant. This study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical features of cementless fixation (CLF) implant prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The test groups of three variations of CLF implant prostheses and a control group of conventional cement-retained (CR) prosthesis were designed three-dimensionally for finite element analysis. The test groups were divided according to the abutment shape and the relining strategy on the inner surface of the implant crown as follows; resin-air hole-full (RAF), resin-air hole (RA), and resin-no air hole (RNA). The von Mises stress and principal stress were used to evaluate the stress values and distributions of the implant components. Contact open values were calculated to analyze the gap formation of the contact surfaces at the abutment-resin and abutment-implant interfaces. The micro-strain values were evaluated for the surrounding bone. RESULTS. Values reflecting the maximum stress on the abutment were as follows (in MPa): RAF, 25.6; RA, 23.4; RNA, 20.0; and CR, 15.8. The value of gap formation was measured from 0.88 to 1.19 ㎛ at the abutment-resin interface and 24.4 to 24.7 ㎛ at the abutment-implant interface. The strain distribution was similar in all cases. CONCLUSION. CLF had no disadvantages in terms of the biomechanical features compared with conventional CR implant prosthesis and could be successfully applied for implant prosthesis.
