  • This research examined the effects of user experience in driving simulation game between using general monitor and 3D virtual reality device, Oculus Rift DK2. We compared the difference of user experience such as presence, flow and arousal by gaming environment. We also tested the effects of virtual reality on driving attitude, emotional pleasure and satisfaction. 100 beginner drivers with a driver's license participated in the experiment of two modes of gaming environment. As a result, all the three user experiences were proved to be significantly higher in VR game play than general monitor game. Also driving attitude, emotional pleasure and satisfaction showed a significant difference in virtual reality. This study makes a theoretical and practical contribution to the application of the next virtual reality game with a special function.

  • The interaction between users and games is an important factor in game development. In this paper, we consider Leaderboard UI in shooting game and study user's performance level according to presence or frequency of providing Leaderboard UI. For this research, we developed a third person shooting game and conducted experiments for 80 college students. The results of the experiments were analyzed using statistical significance using the T-test method. Finally, in order to improve user's performance level, we conclude that the user's gaming experience is a bigger factor than the presence or frequency of providing Leaderboard, causing a significant difference.

  • Several game developers or publishers adopt open innovation strategies to reduce R&D costs and increase user loyalty about their games. User communities play an important role in increasing users' interests in the game because they can share game information and skills in user communities. In this regard, this study explored key antecedents of game user participation intention in user community. We developed a research model by integrating perceived risk into theory of planned action. The theoretical model was tested by using survey data collected from 110 "Suddenattack" game users. Partial least squares (PLS) was utilized to analysis the research model. The findings of this study indicate that both perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment play an important role in forming attitude toward community. However, contrast to our expectations, perceived risk has no signifiant effect on perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, attitude toward community and participation intention. While attention toward community significantly influences community participation intention, social norms are not significantly related to it. The analysis results help game developers or publishers establish effective strategies and policies to increase user participation intention in user community.

  • As Korean online game market is saturated, Korean online game companies are trying to push into North American market. In order to succeed in foreign markets, understanding of user characteristics in that country is most important. In this study, investigation on user characteristics has been performed using user DB from A online game and B online game. They are currently in service by M company in America. Connection time, payment, and royalty are analyzed as a results. Based on the analysis, several advance strategies into North America are suggested. This results could be very useful for Korean MMORPG company to try to push into North America.

  • Currently mobile phones possess the new features including the control interface provided with an ease, an intuition, and a variety and the display ensured for wide area. Mobile phones mounted with the touch screen release actively due to such strengths. This is the mega trend of the development of the latest mobile game. Mobile games set to the past keypad input system have changed for adaptation in the input environment and the progressive development. Consequently it is necessary to research for 'Touch User Interface(TUI)' of mobile games fixed into input environment by "Touch screen". This study have concreted the application method of touch game through the comparison analysis with the past game and implemented touch mobile game based on usability for ten touch mobile game titles released from the inside and outside of the country in oder to apply the touch interface fixed in the game to the hand-hold device with the function of touch interface. The result of this study have two implications. First it enhances the playability and diversity of game genre restricted by reason of the limitation of the past keypad input device. Second, it utilizes the basis for the standard of the interface of the touch mobile game by genre.

  • The paradigm of game development changes with technological trends. If the system can analyze and determine undefined inputs, users' input choices are not restricted. Therefore, game scenarios can have multifarious flows depending upon the user's input data. In this paper, we propose a method of including an output plan in the game system that is based on the user's input but is not restricted to predefined choices. We have implemented an experimental game on the Android platform by combining network communication and APIs. The game interface works as follows: first, the user's input data is transmitted to the server using HTTP protocol; then, the server carries out an analysis on the input data; and finally, the server returns the decision result to the game device. The game can provide users a scenario that corresponds to the decision results. In this paper, we used an image file for the user's input data format. The server calculates similarities between the user's image file and reference images obtained from the Naver Image Search API and then returns determination results. We have confirmed the value of integrating the game development framework with other computing technologies demonstrating the potential of the proposed methods for application to various future game interfaces.

  • In this paper, we suggest a game system that can support network modules for multi-platform based video games, and built a system that can convert from a single-user game to multi-user game. In this system, we bring in an initial delay buffering scheme on clients to handle any periods of latency occurring from the load fluctuation in a network, when a real-time game is played, and shows that stable play for a game is achieved as the result of the scheme. This paper also presents a retransmission algorithm based on the history of game commands to handle drawbacks of UDP mechanism. And, we evaluate the network delay and packet loss using the simulation tool NS2, and shows the case of 0.3 second buffer delay is the most suitable for recovery.

  • Recently, various ways are being explored for enhancing the fun of computer games and lengthening the life cycle of them. This paper proposes the more active game environment by reflecting the decision that is made by collecting and analyzing user's behavioral data. The game results and traveling information of user is using for dynamic map creation. For experiment of the proposed method, we created games using the XNA Framework and confirmed the game environment which changing properly according to the user's game play.

  • In this paper, we address the problem of bandwidth sharing among multiple primary users and multiple secondary users in a cognitive radio network. In cognitive radio networks, effective spectrum assignment for primary and secondary users is a challenge due to the available broad range of radio frequency spectrum as well as the requisition of harmonious coexistence of both users. To handle this problem, firstly, Bertrand game model is used to analyze a spectrum pricing in which multiple primary users emulate with each other to acquire maximal profit. After that, we employ Cournot game to model the spectrum sharing of secondary users to obtain optimal profit for each user also. Simulation results show that our scheme obtains optimal solution at Nash equilibrium.

  • This letter considers the problem of resource sharing among a relay and multiple user nodes in cooperative transmission networks. We formulate this problem as a sellers' market competition and use a noncooperative game to jointly consider the benefits of the relay and the users. We also develop a distributed algorithm to search the Nash equilibrium, the solution of the game. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed game can stimulate cooperative diversity among the selfish user nodes and coordinate resource allocation among the user nodes effectively.
