The previous researches of gambling have been rather focused on the legal gambling industry and gambling addiction and ignored the issue of illegal gambling. But, illegal gambling in Korea has been continuously growing in its volume and the numbers of the relevant mental and social problems such as gambling addiction, crimes, suicides, and etc. have been increasing rapidly. The present study investigated the psychological characteristics of illegal gamblers with comparing gamblers who never experienced illegal gambling (NE), who experienced illegal gambling but participate mainly in legal gambling (EIG), and who participate mainly in illegal gambling (MIG). 1317 NEs, 177 EIGs, and 37 MIGs were recruited and completed an online survey that measured individual dispositions (risk-taking tendency, regulatory focus, locus of control), attitudes towards gambling regulations, misconception of illegal gambling, motives (monetary, excitement, socialization), and emotions. First, EIGs and MIGs, compared to NEs, preferred risk-taking, and EIGs were more promotion focused than NEs. Also, EIGs perceived illegal gambling as less illegal and tended to hold more misconceptions about illegal gambling, compared to NEs. Furthermore, EIGs and MIGs had stronger monetary and excitement motivation than NEs. Finally, MIGs were more likely to feel anxious than other groups. Focusing on the illegality of gambling, the characteristics of illegal gamblers are discussed and political implication on illegal gambling is suggested.

Depression, anxiety and stress are important components of theories of pathological gambling and are often foci of treatment with patients with gambling problems. In the present review we attempt to examine the relationship between anxiety, depression, stress and pathological gambling. Although the previous studies on this subject are limited and the relationship is unclear and complex, our review on the previous studies and clinical experiences on this subject could offer new insights for the assessment and treatment of pathological gamblers.

This study examined the modes of access to betting games among adolescents and analyzed the influence of on-line betting games (e.g., legalized gambling, illegal gambling, speculative games) on problem gambling. The raw data from the 2018 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems were used. Using a sample of 5,101 school adolescents who were from first-grade middle school students to second-grade high school students and who experienced betting games during the last three months, this study conducted cross tabulation and logistic regression analyses. Of the adolescents who experienced betting games, 17.8% experienced on-line games that were composed of 4.9% in illegal gambling, 2.4% in speculative games, and 0.4% in legalized gambling. Compared to land-based modes of gambling, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling. While on-line illegal gambling was associated with higher odds of problem gambling for female adolescents, on-line illegal gambling, legalized gambling, and speculative games were associated with higher odds of problem gambling for male adolescents. This study discussed intervention strategies to address problem gambling and modes of betting games among adolescents.

Korea society is known as gambling republic. It is very dishonorable name, but do not deny this if know the real condition. Gambling had spread gradually in our society and these trend caused much problems. It is true that confrontation was insufficient extremely in reply than gravity of gambling. Tend to recognize gambling by one of leisure life by effect of lawful gambling so-called such as horse racing, casino. While pernicious evil of gambling to our society, police's confrontation system is not effective. The police does technique investigation to look for and arrest criminal using criminal's fixed means and method and habit. Crime who correspond to technique investigation is prescribing to crime technique mutual assistance data administration rule. Gambling is excepted in technique crime's subject despite is very repeatable and is crime who have habit. The police must improve in gambling criminal investigation system for society public order.

This study was the first attempt to investigate which factors influence problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents in South Korea. Using data from the 2015 Survey on Youth Gambling Problems, this study examined the influences of personal characteristics and betting games on problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Regression analyses of personal characteristics on problem gambling showed that being male adolescents, having more allowance, living without parents/guardians, or belonging to probation was associated with higher likelihood of doing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Also, regression analyses of betting games on problem gambling revealed that doing betting games more frequently, doing betting games more time, or spending more money on betting games was associated with higher likelihood of doing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents. Based on the findings, this study suggested practice and policy implications for addressing problem gambling among out-of-school adolescents.

This study investigates the effects of availability and accessibility on an individual's risk of developing a gambling problem. A total of 24 off-track betting facilities located in 12 districts of Seoul were examined in an effort to identify any association between their presence and citizens' gambling habits. Study participants included 1,490 online recruits residing in Seoul who participated in gambling activities in the 12 months prior to the study. To examine the differences in addiction rates and gambling frequency, a survey of demographics, gambling addictions, and gambling frequency divided the participants into two groups: those who resided in a district where off-track betting facilities were available, and those who resided elsewhere. Analysis results indicate that gambling frequency and addiction rates were significantly higher among participants residing in a district where off-track betting terminals are available. Additional analysis was performed with participants who mainly gambled on horse racing, with results similar to the previous analysis-significantly higher rates of gambling addiction and frequency were observed among participants residing in close proximity to off-track betting facilities.

The purpose of this study is to understand in depth the gambling experiences of delinquent juveniles who have dropped out of school and analyze the content and meaning of gambling experiences. Thus, utilized a Giorgi's phenomenological research method. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews, and the gambling experiences of six youths who are under juvenile law protective disposition were examined through a four-step analytic process. From the results, 6 parent components and 18 sub-components were derived. That is, "the temptation of close gambling", "trapped in the bridle of gambling", "deterioration of life", "damaged of non-official networks relationship", "corruption of existence" and "attempts to escape gambling" were appeared. These results are meaningful because they have allowed researchers to identify the essential meaning and experiential structure of delinquents juvenile' gambling experiences outside of school, which has not been studied thus far. Further, this study has empirical value as its framework includes a joint analysis in terms of welfare and gambling addiction and focuses on a precarious population-delinquent juveniles who have dropped out of school. The results provide a foundation from which practical implications and policy alternatives for the prevention and treatment of gambling problems in delinquent juveniles dropped out of school.

Objectives: This study is to examine that drinking problems among university students were accounted for not only by student's individual characteristics but alcohol policy and environmental characteristics of the university in which students were enrolled. Method: Secondary data analysis was employed in which variables under study were derived from a raw data of a nationwide representative sample in 2009. Raw data under analysis included 3,665 students from 63 universities across Korea. Organizational and environmental characteristics of the university were collected from university administrators while individual characteristics and drinking behavior from the students in using self-administrated questionnaire. Multilevel regression analyses were employed to describe alcohol policy effects on students's drinking problems measured by AUDIT by using HLM7.0. Results: ICCs indicate that variation in drinking problem depends on alcohol policy of university. Multilevel regression models identified statistically significant factors in explaining variance of drinking problems. Group means on drinking problem are affected by indicators representing alcohol policy with level of drinking problem of student being decreased in accordance to level of availability of alcohol on campus. Conclusions: It is concluded that drinking problems among university students were associated with both individual characteristics and alcohol policy of the university they enrolled. This study supports policy belief that interventions at environmental as well as individual level are required to prevent drinking problem among university students.

This study reviewed the present state and differences of rehabilitation programs of the gambling addiction by comparing with other psychiatric disorder(including psychotic disability and alcohol addiction). This study also intended to suggest necessities, meanings and inherent fields of the rehabilitation in gambling addiction. First of all, the government and a few gambling industries run clinic centers for gamblers and their families, but have been lacked rehabilitation services for social comeback and adaptation or devaluated rehabilitation services than therapies. Gambling addict didn't have impairments of the cognitive function and their daily abilities was better than any other psychiatric disorders. But Damage of social role or function of gambling addiction was severe. And it is caused by nonadaptive nature of gambling behavior, personality/emotional change through gambling addiction process, and previous personality problem etc. There are many severe failure of social role and its attendant bankrupcy, family's problems and social poverty in gambling addiction, Therefore, important fields in the rehabilitation of gambling addiction should be services for basic social comeback support service, credit recovery support, monetary management, support of rehabilitation of family and vocational rehabilitation. Finally, the significance and critical points of the current study has been discussed as well.

The purposes of the study is to classify the psychological characteristics of gamblers using by latent profile analysis and to identify the consequences according toof the latent profiles. The subjects of the study are 473 adults gamblers who responded to a online survey about gambling patterns, basic psychological needs(BPNs), and mental health status(MHS) such as stress, depression, and anxiety. Using latent profile analysis known as the person-centered analysis, the results showed that psychological characteristics of gamblers were classified into three groups: 'Lower MHS-BPNs', 'Middle MHS-BPNs', and 'Upper MHS-BPNs'. Also, the as outcome variable, levels of problematic gambling(KCPGI) showed significant differences across the latent profiles such as Problem gambling(M=11.393) on 'Lower MHS-BPNs', Moderate-risk gambling(M=4.277) on 'Middle MHS-BPNs' and Low-risk gambling (M=1.718) on 'Upper MHS-BPNs'. Overcoming the limitations of variable-centered analysis in the existing studies, this study providesreveals new insights onin the psychological characteristics of gamblers and how different latent profiles of gamblers may be in theirdistinct levels of problematic gambling. Finally, limitations of the study and future directions for research on gambling problems are discussed.
