  • Control of dam gates is a complex, nonlinear, and non-stationary control process and is significantly affected by hydrological conditions which are not predictable beforehand. In this paper, we proposed control methods based on a fuzzy inference method for the operation of dam gates. The proposed methods are not only suitable for controlling gates but also able to maintain target water level in order to prepare a draught, and able to control the amount of the outfow from a reservoir in order to prevent floods in lower areas of a river. In the proposed methods, we used the dynamic fuzzy inference method that membership functions can be varied by changing environment conditions for keeping up the target water level instead of conventional static fuzzy inference methods, and used additional fuzzy rules and membership functions for restricting the amount of the outflow. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed methods produce an efficient solution for both of maintaining target water level defined beforehand and controlling the amount of the outflow.

  • This study is aimed at the development of a runoff forecasting model by using the Fuzzy inference system and Neural Network model to solve the uncertainties occurring in the process of rainfall-runoff modeling and improve the modeling accuracy of the stream runoff forecasting. The Neuro-Fuzzy (NF) model were used in this study. The NF model, recently received a great deal of attention, improve the existing Neural Networks by the aid of the Fuzzy theory applied to each node. The study area is the downstreams of Naeseung-chun. Therefore, time-dependent data was obtained from the Wolpo water level gauging station. 11 and 2 out of total 13 flood events were selected for the training and testing set of model respectively. The schematic diagram method and the statistical analysis are conducted to evaluate the feasibility of rainfall-runoff modeling. The model accuracy was rapidly decreased as the forecasting time became longer. The NF model can give accurate runoff forecasts up to 4 hours ahead in standard above the Determination coefficient $(R^2)$ 0.7. In the comparison of the runoff forecasting using the NF and TANK models, characteristics of peak runoff in the TANK model was higher than ones in the NF models, but peak values of hydrograph in the NF models were similar.

  • The generation of fuzzy rules is inevitable in order to construct fuzzy modeling and in general, has the problem that the number of rules increases exponentially with increasing dimension. To solve this problem, we introduce the system that generate the fuzzy rules and make a inference based on FCM clustering algorithm that partition the input space in the scatter form. The parameters in the premise part of the fuzzy rules is determined as membership matrix by the FCM clustering algorithm and the consequence part of the fuzzy rules is are expressed as a polynomial function. Proposed model evaluated using the numerical data.

  • In this paper, we provide the formal specification of a fuzzy object inference language and propose ICOT(Integrated C-Object Tool) as its implementation for knowledge-based programming with the disjunctive fuzzy information. The novelty of our model is that it seamlessly combines object inference and fuzzy reasoning into a unified framework without compromising a compatibility with extant databases, especially object-relational ones. In this model most of the object-oriented paradigm is successfully expressed in terms of relational constructs, tailoring fuzzy reasoning style to be well suited to the framework of the databases. It turns out to be useful in preserving its conceptual simplicity as well, since simple-to-use is one of important criteria in designing the databases. Additionally this model considerably enhanced the semantic expressiveness of data allowing disjunctive fuzzy information.

  • An automatic switch among ensembles of clustering algorithms is proposed as a part of the bibliographic big data retrieval system by utilizing a fuzzy inference engine as a decision support tool to select the fastest performing clustering algorithm between fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering, Newman-Girvan clustering, and the combination of both. It aims to realize the best clustering performance with the reduction of computational complexity from O($n^3$) to O(n). The automatic switch is developed by using fuzzy logic controller written in Java and accepts 3 inputs from each clustering result, i.e., number of clusters, number of vertices, and time taken to complete the clustering process. The experimental results on PC (Intel Core i5-3210M at 2.50 GHz) demonstrates that the combination of both clustering algorithms is selected as the best performing algorithm in 20 out of 27 cases with the highest percentage of 83.99%, completed in 161 seconds. The self-adapted FCM is selected as the best performing algorithm in 4 cases and the Newman-Girvan is selected in 3 cases. The automatic switch is to be incorporated into the bibliographic big data retrieval system that focuses on visualization of fuzzy relationship using hybrid approach combining FCM and Newman-Girvan algorithm, and is planning to be released to the public through the Internet.

  • In this study, we propose a fuzzy polynomial neural networks (FPNN) and a genetically optimized fuzzy polynomial neural networks(GoFPNN) for identification of non-linear system. GoFPNN architecture is designed by a FPNN based on fuzzy set and its structure and parameters are optimized by genetic algorithms. A fuzzy neural networks(FNN) based on fuzzy set divide into two structures that is simplified inference structure and linear inference structure. The proposed FPNN is resulted from integration and extension of simplified and linear inference structure of FNN. The consequence structure of the FPNN consist of polynomials represented by networks using connection weights for rules. The networks comprehend simplified(Type 0), linear (Type 1), and quadratic(Type 3) inferences. The proposed FPNN can select polynomial type of consequence part for each rule. Therefore, proposed scheme can offer flexible structure design capability for a system characteristics. Moreover, GAs is applied to networks structure and parameters tuning of proposed FPNN, and its efficient application method is discussed, these subjects are result in GoFPNN that is optimal FPNN. To evaluate proposed model performance, a numerical experiment is carried out.

  • The automated fish feed system currently used in Korea supplies a certain amounts of feed to water tanks at a certain time. This automated system can reduce the labor cost of managing aqua farms, but it is very difficult to control intelligently and appropriately the amount of expensive feed that is critical to aqua farm productivity. In this paper, we propose the FIIFF Inference Model( Fuzzy Inference-based Intelligent Fish Feeding Model) that can solves the problems of these existing automatic fish feeding devices and maximizes the efficiency of feed supply while properly maintaining the growth rate of fish in aqua farms. The proposed FIIFF inference model has the advantage of being able to control feed amounts appropriately since it computes the amount of feed using the current water environments and fish activity state of the aqua farms. The result of the feed amount yield experiment with the proposed FIIFF Inference Model represents the effect of saving 14.8% over the eight months of actual feed amount in the aqua farm.

  • The program ESRAS Ver 0.5 that can assess the risk of slopes by means of fuzzy inference is developed in this paper. The results of assessment involve the degree of stability of slopes, the possible travel distance of the soil mass being failed, and anticipated loss of life and properties. With this program, vulnerable slopes can be managed most effectively and the fuzzy inference is used to express quantitatively the judgement of an expert and the uncertainty of slope stability. The fuzzy rule base is composed of an evaluation list for slope stability together with the experience of an expert. This program has been examined for 88 slopes which have been failed or shown a possibility of failure. With this examination, the standards to assess the stability of slopes can be presented and it is proven that this is particularly useful in determining the priority of investment for remedial works of slopes.

  • This paper presents a method of image analysis based on discrete cosine transform (DCT) and fuzzy inference(Fl). It concentrated not only on the design of fuzzy inference algorithm but also on incorporating human visual parameter(HVP) into transform coefficients. In the first, HVP such as entropy, texture degree are calculated from the coefficients matrix of DCT. Secondly, using these parameters, fuzzy input variables are generated. Mamdani's operator as well as ${\alpha}$-cut function are involved to simulate the proposed approach, and consequently, experimental results are presented to testify the performance and applicability of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, we develop an algorithm which recognizes Ilpa-style shorthand characters by on-line. It discriminates the structure of characters using coordinates which are measured by tablet board, then it outputs the recognized characters using the fuzzy inference rules. Shorthand characters have several forms, in which an initial or a middle sound depends on angle and length while a last sound is treated as a hook. We apply fuzzy inference rules to the discrimination of the length, the angle, the curve, and the straight line. We also built up a set of standard character codes in order to reduce the processing time.
