Review on Coastline Change and Its Response Along the Cotonou Coast, Benin in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa (서아프리카 기니만에 있는 베냉 코토누의 해안선 변화와 대응에 대한 고찰)

  • The global surface temperature has risen critically over the past century and according to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report 2014, existing risks in natural and human systems will worsen. Coastal erosion is mostly caused by climate change and among all the coastal areas at risk, Benin, which is part of the Gulf of Guinea, has been ranked very highly as a vulnerable region. Therefore, in this review, we focus on the evolution of coastline change in Cotonou of Benin, summarizing its resultant impacts and applied measures around the coast area by reviewing previous studies. Signs of coastal erosion in Cotonou appeared in 1963. After 39 years, the east shoreline of Cotonou has retreated by 885 m, resulting in the disappearance of more than 800 houses. To solve this problem, Benin authorities built seven groynes in 2013, and have increased the number of the structure as a way to interrupt water flow and limit the movement of sediment. Over the region, shorelines appeared preserved accordingly. In contrast, areas located further east, where groynes were not installed, have suf ered from intensive erosion at a rate of 49 m/yr. In the future, as a next step, the effectiveness of groynes should be studied with local and broader perspectives.

A Study on the Role of Christianity and the Educational Direction in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4차 산업혁명시대의 기독교의 역할과 교육방향에 관한 연구)

  • Since Schwab mentioned the Fourth Industrial Revolution at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2016, discussions have been ongoing about it and the future society. The Fourth Industrial Revolution exceeds the development of technology and influences society, culture, and lifestyle. Moreover, in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, society continues to experience and realize the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Although we hope that this era will surely improve human life, we are also concerned about human alienation and social and economic polarization that may emerge as a consequence. How, then, does Christianity contribute to the public space and set the direction for education in this day and age? This study focused on the role of Christianity and the direction of education during the Fourth Industrial Revolution. First, I examine problems in terms of the inner and outer aspects of individuals and communities that may occur during the Fourth Industrial Revolution through the perspectives of Mitchell, a psychologist, Bellah, a sociologist, McGrath, a theologian, and Bostrom, a philosopher. Through their theories, we can view the lives of individuals in the real, virtual, and transcendental worlds of this era. I find that Christianity can provide a transcendent norm in this world, give meaning to life, and change people and the world. Therefore, I suggest the creation and expression of symbols as a direction for education. For this form of education, I recommend five steps, namely, observing, entering, discovering, participating, and making symbols. In this manner, people can represent the kingdom of God in the real world.

Current Status and Future Perspectives of Academic Library Online Services in the Pandemic Era (팬데믹 시대 대학도서관 온라인 정보서비스의 현황과 과제)

  • After the pandemic, universities are shifting to distance learning, and the information use environment of libraries is rapidly changing. Therefore, there is a need for academic libraries to provide learning and research support services to users in response to these changes. This study analyzed the following contents, focusing on the contents of online services of academic libraries in order to understand the services provided by academic libraries after the pandemic, 1) the current status of online information services provided by 60 academic libraries at domestic and foreign and 2) the experience and requirements for using the online information services of academic library were investigated. As a result of the study, academic libraries at domestic and foreign responded to the untact environment by providing various online information services and users showed high experience and requirements for the electronic resource service and online user education service of academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic. Based on the analysis of the current status of online information services provided by domestic and foreign academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic, as well as the experiences and requirements of university students, several strategies were proposed to improve the quality of university education and library online information services and to plan services that respond to user needs.

Empirical study on BlenderBot 2.0's errors analysis in terms of model, data and dialogue (모델, 데이터, 대화 관점에서의 BlendorBot 2.0 오류 분석 연구)

  • Blenderbot 2.0 is a dialogue model representing open domain chatbots by reflecting real-time information and remembering user information for a long time through an internet search module and multi-session. Nevertheless, the model still has many improvements. Therefore, this paper analyzes the limitations and errors of BlenderBot 2.0 from three perspectives: model, data, and dialogue. From the data point of view, we point out errors that the guidelines provided to workers during the crowdsourcing process were not clear, and the process of refining hate speech in the collected data and verifying the accuracy of internet-based information was lacking. Finally, from the viewpoint of dialogue, nine types of problems found during conversation and their causes are thoroughly analyzed. Furthermore, practical improvement methods are proposed for each point of view, and we discuss several potential future research directions.

The Comparative Education and History of Education: An Introductory Approach to Comparative Education History (비교교육학과 교육사학: 비교교육학사 서설(敍說))

  • In order to confirm the academic authenticity of comparative education, the academic methodology which is also appropriate for the historical arrangement is the history. In this sense, this article focuses on the study of comparative education from the viewpoint of history of education and aims for a tentative approach to comparative education history. In every discipline, it is essential to organize the history of the discipline both for those majoring in it and for the development of the discipline itself. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows. First, in general, the method of studying comparative education includes not only 'comparative studies' but also 'regional studies', but it can add academic depth through the study of time series called 'comparative education history'. Second, the developmental process of the comparative education can be classified into four stages; the first stage is 'the pre-history' of the comparative education, the second stage is the 'embryo stage', the third stage is the 'establishment stage', and the fourth stage is the 'development stage'. Especially, in the era of globalization, the academic potential of comparative education is even higher, so it is possible to add an 'expanding period'. Third, it is necessary to understand the 'comparative education history' in order to secure the academic identity of the comparative education study. It is expected that it will be possible to more easily confirm the perspectives and issues of comparative education in the future, together with a good conceptual understanding of comparative education.

  • In that all aspects of education can be compared from an international perspective, Comparative Education can share research subjects with most of the subdisciplinary study of Education. Especially Educational Finance and Economics, which is an important part of institutions and policies of education, has been one of the important areas in Comparative Education studies. In this regard, this paper summed up the relationship between Comparative Education and Educational Finance and Economics. Not only for the development of Educational Finance and Economics itself, but also in point of view of Comparative Education, it is as follows to discuss several tasks for Educational Finance and Economics to develop from now on. First, it is necessary to diversify the methods and approaches to Educational Finance and Economics. Comparative Educational studies or exploration on Educational Finance and Economics should require additional analysis from a variety of perspectives. Second, more efforts should be made to establish an independent theoretical framework for Educational Finance and Economics. Comparative Education may also be interested in international comparisons of these theoretical orientations or directions of Educational Finance and Economics. Third, we have to secure the identity of the Korean Educational Finance and Economics. Various comparative educational studies on Educational Finance and Economics of Education from an international perspective should be attempted on the basis of indigenous and independent Educational finance and Economics. Educational Finance and Economics are areas in which comparative educational analysis is needed more than any other study field of Education. We look forward to more active research on Educational Finance and Economics in the future from a comparative educational standpoint.

Characteristics of Cancer Stem Cells and Immune Checkpoint Inhibition (암줄기세포의 특성 및 면역관문억제)

  • Cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are primarily responsible for metastasis and recurrence, have self-renewal, differentiation, therapeutic resistance, and tumor formation abilities. Numerous studies have demonstrated the signaling pathways essential for the acquisition and maintenance of CSC characteristics, such as WNT/${\beta}$-catenin, Hedgehog, Notch, B lymphoma Mo-MLV insertion region 1 homolog (BMI1), Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), and TGF-${\beta}$ signals. However, few therapeutic strategies have been developed that can selectively eliminate CSCs. Recently, neutralizing antibodies against Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), have shown promising outcomes in clinical trials of melanoma, lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer, as well as in hematologic malignancies. ICIs are considered to outperform conventional anticancer drugs by maintaining long-lasting anti-cancer effects, with less severe side effects. Several studies reported that ICIs successfully blocked CSC properties in head and neck squamous carcinomas, melanomas, and breast cancer. Together, these findings suggest that novel and effective anticancer therapeutic modalities using ICIs for selective elimination of CSCs may be developed in the near future. In this review, we highlight the origin and characteristics of CSCs, together with critical signaling pathways. We also describe progress in ICI-mediated anticancer treatment to date and present perspectives on the development of CSC-targeting ICIs.

Suggestion of a Social Significance Research Model for User Emotion -Focused on Conversational Agent and Communication- (사용자 감정의 사회적 의미 조사 모델 제안 -대화형 에이전트와 커뮤니케이션을 중심으로-)

  • The conversational agent, which is at the forefront of the 4th industry, aims to personalize the user-centered focus in the future and holds an important position to have a hub that can be connected to various IoT devices. It is a challenge for interactive agents to recognize the user's emotions and provide the correct interaction to personalization. The study first I looked at emotional definitions and scientific and engineering approaches. Then I recognized through social perspectives what social function and what factors emotions have and how they can be used to understand emotions. Based on this, I explored how users can be discovered emotional social factors in communication. This research has shown that social factors can be found in the user's speech, which can be linked to the social meaning of emotions. Finally, I propose a model to discover social factors in user communication. I hope that this will help designer and researcher to study user-centered design and interaction in designing interactive agents.

Computer-Assisted Navigation in Total Knee Arthroplasty (내비게이션 장치를 이용한 슬관절 전치환술)

  • Total knee arthroplasty has become a standard procedure for advanced knee arthritis to relieve pain and improve function. Computer-assisted navigation systems have been used in total knee arthroplasty to improve the mechanical axis of the limb as well as the alignment and position of the components. A computer-assisted navigation system has the advantage of real-time feedback during surgery, such as mediolateral balance in extension and flexion gap, alignment of the lower limb, and components. On the other hand, the computer-assisted navigation system requires an additional stab wound for tracker fixation, which can increase the likelihood of superficial wound infection and stress fractures and increase the operation time and cost of surgery. The clinical efficacy of computer-assisted navigation in total knee arthroplasty is also controversial. Compared to the conventional technique, computer navigation improves the accuracy of the postoperative mechanical axis within outliers of $3^{\circ}$ varus or $3^{\circ}$ valgus. This paper reviews the surgical technique, pitfalls, clinical and radiological outcomes, useful clinical cases, and future perspectives in computer-assisted navigation total knee arthroplasty.

The Study of Key Elements to Establish Natural Disaster Preparedness Plan in Libraries and Archives (도서관과 기록관의 자연재난 대비 계획수립 핵심 요소 고찰)

  • This study reviewed important elements that should be considered in developing natural disaster plan in libraries and archives. In Korea, research on natural disaster planning in libraries and archives was rarely conducted. Therefore, it was necessary to study and analyse overseas literature for natural disaster preparedness planning. The key elements for establishing a natural disaster preparedness plan commonly identified in overseas research can be divided into six factors. 'The disaster preparedness committee and roles of staff' should be designated for starting disaster preparedness, and 'Risks' vulnerable to disaster should be assessed and managed in advance. A 'Handbook for immediate response' should be produced for all employees to respond promptly in the event of disaster, and 'Recovery and business continuity plan' should be reviewed for strategic recovery based on disaster scale and return to work after disaster. Also, in order to strengthen the capacity of all staff related to disaster preparedness and to improve plan for disaster, 'Training' is needed, and 'Cooperation activities' between related organisations should be taken into consideration in order to obtain various perspectives for disaster preparedness and to cope with and recover from large-scale disasters. This study can help Korean libraries and archives to establish natural disaster preparedness plan for serious natural disaster that can likely occur in the future.
