Properties of fucoidan used for functional cosmetic ingredients and the effect of fucoidan molecular weight on the cosmetic functions were studied. Fucoidan was extracted from Undaria pinnatifida sporophylls and molecular weight (35~160 kDa) of fucoidan was controlled by contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE). To test possibility of fucoidan as a cosmetics material, tyrosinase inhibition property, water-holding property, elastase activity inhibition property and DPPH free radical scavenging property were measured. Water-holding property of fucoidan was higher than that of hyaruronic acid, which is known as the one of the best water-holding material. The water-holding strength of fucoidan slightly increase as molecular weight of fucoidan decrease. Elastase activity inhibition (anti wrinkle effect) of fucoidan was higher than that of adenosine using standard material for anti wrinkle test. Optimum molecular weight of fucoidan to obtain highest tyrosin inhibition effect, elastase inhibition effect and radical scavenger effect is 100 kDa.

The objectives of this research were to investigate the relationship between purchase behavior and consumer dissatisfaction of cosmetics at internet shopping malls, and to examine how the purchase behavior and consumer values influence the consumer dissatisfaction. Subjects were 212 females in Seoul who had experiences of cosmetic shopping at internet shopping malls. Consumers showed highest dissatisfaction when the purchased cosmetics were different from the products showed at internet shopping malls. The dissatisfaction with consuming system was higher than buying system or transporting system. The higher the expense and frequency of cosmetic purchase, the lower the consumer dissatisfaction of buying system. Females of 18 to 24 years old purchased color cosmetics more than females of 25 to 39 years old did. Females of 25 to 39 years old purchased functional skincare products more than females of 18 to 24 years old did. The cosmetic purchase expense of older groups was higher than that of younger one. The more consumers spent time on the internet, the more frequent they bought the cosmetics at internet showing mall. Consumers were most willing to buy basic skincare products at the internet shopping mall (42.9%). The consumer dissatisfaction with cosmetics at internet shopping malls was influenced the most by the happiness value(-) and the next by the responsible value, the frequency of cosmetic purchase at internet shopping malls(-) in order.
The most rapidly growing manufacturing could be cosmetics industries due to this phenomenon. In this study, the cosmetic distribution structure not to mention Korea, Asia's largest market, China and Japan are based on references. Purpose of study is to provide a basis for marketing strategy through the research process and results. Korea cosmetics market has been exerting a tremendous power of LG Household & Health and Amore Pacific as a major company. Cosmetics industry is rapidly booming around the mid-priced brand through internet shopping, TV shopping, and road shops. Cosmetics preferences were analyzed targeted at tourists by distributing questionnaire to 1500 in road shop and Myeong-dong from September 14 to October 13, 2013. The answers for the questions of the most awareness cosmetic brands in Korea are appeared in order of Laneige, Innisfree, The Face Shop. The satisfaction of the use of Korea cosmetic are 61.85% and the reasons are that in a variety of color cosmetics are 32.58%, the reaction of around that you look prettier are 29.34%. Therefore purchasing products are 49.14% of the color cosmetics and 24.93% of the functional products. Within the result of the survey, although the quality versus the price for the Korean cosmetic brands has been competitive advantage over yet from the advertising of Korea wave stars, the foreign purchasers have been willing to buy the color cosmetics and high-end performance products being the research and development of the continuously higher quality of the performance if the preceding even if being more expensive purchase price.
In this study, in an attempt to search for functional cosmetic ingredients from higher fungal, we have produced exopolysaccharides (GF-l, approximately carbohydrate 75%, protein 25%) and polysaccharide (GF-2) of mycelium extract, by submerged culture of Grifolafrondosa. For applications in anti-aging cosmetic field, we investigated the diverse biological activities. Antioxidant activity and inhibition of Matrixmetalloproteinases (MMPs) were investigated enzymatic assays by measuring the superoxide scavenging activity using xanthine-xanthine oxidase system and the proteolytic activity of MMPs using EnzChek Collagenase/Gelatinase kits, respectively. GF-l polysacchairde showed inhibition of superoxide radical by 90% at a concentration of 0.2% (w/v) and inhibition of collagenase by 45% at 0.2% (w/v). GF-2 polysaccharide of mycelium extract also exhibited good antioxidant activity. However, MMPs inhibition activity was relatively lower level compared to GF-l polysaccharides. The treatment of human dermal fibroblast (HDF) with GF-l and GF-2 polysaccharides increased the proliferation of fibroblast by approximately 23-25% at a concentration of 0.5% (w/v), also showed collagen synthesis increase in HDF by about 50% at 0.5% (w/v) compared to that of untreated control. We also report the moisturizing effects of polysaccharides in cosmetic products (O/W emulation) and its own ingredient, in vitro and in vivo. The GF-1 polysaccharide showed higher moisturizing ability than sodium hyaluronate, which is the most commonly used moisturizers ingredient. These results suggest the GF-l polysaccharide, protein-bound polysaccharide, may be used as an ingredient for new moisturizing and anti-aging cosmeceuticals.

This study was carried out to evaluate the possibility of willow plants (the genus Salix) as a cosmetic material. DPPH radical scavenging abilities of 70% ethanol extracts of S. gracilistyla, S. pseudolasiogyne, and S. koriyanagi were significantly increased compared to control. In addition, the treatment of three species of willow plant extracts significantly inhibited the production of nitric oxide (NO) in RAW 264.7 cells, indicating that they had anti-inflammatory activity, and all of them had collagenase inhibitory activity. Among them, the extracts of S. gracilistyla extracts exhibited the highest collagenase inhibitory activity. As a result of analyzing the collagenase inhibitory activity against the solvent fraction of S. gracilistyla extracts, water and butanol fractions showed the highest collagenase inhibitory activity. These results suggested that S. gracilistyla among the willow plants had high collagenase inhibitory activity, and thus it can be utilized for cosmetics as an effective functional cosmetic material in the future.

Propionibacterium acnes, a major pathogens bacterium of acne, is one of the microflora associated with the inflammation. In this study, the antibacterial effects of 70% ethanol extracts from the 61 natural plants in Jeju against P. acnes were investigated using the disc diffusion method. The 45 natural plant extracts showed antibacterial effects and the 16 natural plants extracts didn't show antibacterial effects. The Phyllanthus urinaria L. (stem and leaves) extract showed thr highest antimicrobial activity with $18.96{\pm}0.69mm$ clear zone of the growth of P. acnes, followed by Angelica gigas Nakai (roots), Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino, Angelica gigas Nakai (stem and leaves), Isodon inflexus (Thunb.) Kudo, camellia sinensis L. (flowers), Rosmarinus officinalis, etc. These results suggest that the natural plant in Jeju can be used as functional cosmetic biomaterials or antimicrobial agents against P. acnes.
Background: Culturing wild ginseng adventitious root using plant factory technology provides genetic safety and high productivity. This production technology is drawing attention in the fields of functional raw materials and product development. The cultivation method using elicitors is key technology for controlling biomass and increasing secondary metabolites. Methods and Results: Elicitor treatments using methyl jasmonate, pyruvic acid, squalene, β-sistosterol were performed to amplify total ginsenosides (Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, and Rd) of cultured wild ginseng adventitious root. Thereafter, fermentation and steaming processes were performed to convert total ginsenosides into minor molecular ginsenosides (Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5). The result indicated that methyl jasmonate minimizes the reduction in fresh weight of cultured wild ginseng adventitious root and maximizes total ginsenosides (sum of Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, and Rd). Ginsenoside conversion results showed a maximum degree of conversion of 131 mg/g. Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated that the optimal elicitor treatment method increased the content of total ginsenosides, while the steaming and fermentation processing method increased the content of minor ginsenosides.

This study attempted to eatablish a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis method for the determination of avicularin, quercitrin as a part of the quality control for the development of functional cosmetic materials from Astilbe chinensis extract. HPLC was performed on a Capcell Pak C18 MGII column with a gradient elution of 0.05% (v/v) trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and acetonitrile at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min at 30 ℃. The analyte was detected at 254 nm. The HPLC method was performed in accordance with the international conference on harmonization (ICH) guideline (version 4, 2005) of analytical procedures with respect to specificity, precision, accuracy, and linearity. The limits of detection and quantitation of avicularin and quercitrin were 0.094 and 0.285 mg/mL, 0.031 and 0.095 mg/mL respectively. Calibration curves showed good linearity r2 > 0.99990 for avicularin and r2 > 0.99994 for quercitrin. Precision of analysis was satisfied with less than 0.59% for avicularin and 0.63% for quercitrin. Recoveries of quantified compounds ranged from 100.97 to 101.77% for avicularin and 100.18 to 100.32% for quercitrin. These result indicated that the established HPLC method is very useful for the determination of marker compounds in A. chinensis extracts.
