This paper presents transient response behavior and frequency-dependent ground impedance of a single carbon ground electrode. The ground impedance of the carbon ground electrode was measured as a function of frequency of injected currents and simulated by using the distributed parameter circuit model with due regard to the frequency-dependent soil parameters, and the transient response behavior of the carbon ground electrode against impulse currents were investigated. As a consequence, the frequency-dependent ground impedance of the carbon ground electrode showed the capacitive behavior, that is, the ground impedance decreases with increasing the frequency of injected currents and lowers at the fast front time of impulse current. It was found that the carbon ground electrode is effective in grounding system for lightning protection. The ground impedance simulated with due regard to the frequency-dependent soil parameters was in good agreement with the measured data. The adequacy of the simulation technique and the distributed parameter circuit model for the carbon ground electrode was verified. It is expected that the simulation methodology, which analyzes the frequency-dependent ground impedance of the carbon ground electrode proposed in this work, can be used in the design of a grounding system for protection against lightning.
This paper presents the results of an investigation into the frequency-dependent electrical parameters for different types of soil as a function of moisture content. The frequency dependence of soil electrical parameters is very important in the design of grounding systems. In fact, the performance of grounding systems is greatly dependent upon various factors such as soil type, particle size, water content, temperature, frequency, and the like. The resistivity and relative permittivity for four different soils were measured and analyzed in the frequency range of 1kHz - 1MHz. Soil resistivity declined as moisture content and frequency increased. In particular, the frequency dependence of soil resistivity was significant as the moisture content was low. In contrast, the relative permittivity of soil dramatically declined at the frequency of 10kHz or below as the moisture content increased, showing the opposite pattern in terms of variation patterns, compared to resistivity.
This paper deals with the frequency-dependent ground impedance of ground grids combined with the carbon ground electrodes. Ground grids are generally valid for multipurpose grounding systems as well as lightning protection systems. The carbon ground electrodes may be supplementarily used to reduce the high frequency ground impedance and to improve the transient response to surge currents. The frequency-dependent ground impedances of ground grids combined with or without the carbon ground electrodes were measured and their simulations with due regard to frequency-dependent soil resistivity were implemented by using EMTP program and Matlab modeling. As a consequence, the ground impedance of ground grids combined with the carbon ground electrodes is significantly reduced when the test current is injected at the terminal of the carbon ground electrode. The measured and simulated data for the test ground grids fairly agree with each other. It was found that the proposed method of simulating the frequency-dependent ground impedance is distinguished. The simulation techniques of predicting accurately the ground impedances without actual measurements can be used in the design of grounding systems based on ground grids and the carbon ground electrodes.

This paper presents a method to calculate the characteristic root areas and loci band of control systems with uncertainties. First, equations of boundary curves of root areas in the case of additive and multiplicative perturbation are derived. Then, an algorithm for the calculation of the array of closed curves is presented. When the upper bound of the absolute values of frequency responses for the uncertain part, is also frequency-dependent, the frequency-dependent, terms are included in the characteristic equation of the nominal system. This lead to the boundary equations of the root, areas for control systems with frequency-dependent uncertainty. Numerical examples of the control systems with multiplicative perturbations including frequency-dependent terms are presented to verify this calculation method. Finally, its applications to the design of robust control systems, e.g., passive adaptive control systems are also discussed.
Modern power systems are very complex and to model them completely is impractical for electromagnetic transient studies. Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). In this paper a method for developing Frequency Dependent AC system Equivalent (FDACSE) using Z-domain rational Function Fitting is presented and demonstrated. The FDACSE is generated by Linearized Least Squares Fitting(LSF) of the frequency response of a Z-domain formulation. This 1 & 2 port FDACSE have been applied to the New Zealand South Island AC power system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the 1 & 2 port FDACSE developed under different condition (linear load, fault and nonlinear loading). The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of 1 & 2 port FDACSE for electromagnetic transient studies.
This paper presents an efficient method for analysis of magnetodynamic system using frequency-dependent parameters. In equivalent electric circuit of linear magnetodynamic system, parameters of inductance and resistance are not constant since they vary with its driving frequency. Once frequency-dependent parameters of equivalent electric circuit for a given system are extracted, they can be used to analyze various characteristics of system. We use the Fourier transform, the high-order sensitivity method and Taylor series in order to efficiently extract the frequency-dependent parameters of magnetodynamic system. The proposed algorithm is applied to an induction heating system to validate its numerical efficiency.
Electromagnetic transient simulation can be used to model complex non-linearities that very difficult to represent adequately in the frequency domain. This problem is greatly reduced with the use of frequency dependent network equivalents for the linear part of the system. S-domain rational function fitting techniques for representing frequency dependent equivalents have been developed using Least Squares Fitting(LSF). However it does not suffer the implementation error that exited in this work as it ignored the instantaneous term. This paper presents the formulation for developing 2 port Frequency Dependent AC System Equivalent(FDACSE) with the instantaneous term in S-domain and illustrates its use. This 2 port FDNE have been applied to the New Zealand AC system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the 2 port (FDACSE) developed with Norton Equivalent network. The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of 2 port FDACSE for electromagnetic transient studies.
Suppressive role of $Na^+-Ca^{2+}$ exchange in myocardial tension generation was examined in the negative frequency-force relationship (FFR) of electric field stimulated left atria (LA) from postnatal developing rat heart and in the whole-cell clamped adult rat ventricular myocytes with high concentration of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ buffer (14 mM EGTA). LA twitch amplitudes, which were suppressed by cyclopiazonic acid in a postnatal age-dependent manner, elicited frequency-dependent and postnatal age-dependent enhancements after $Na^+-reduced,\;Ca^{2+}-depleted$ (26 Na-0 Ca) buffer application. These enhancements were blocked by caffeine pretreatment with postnatal age-dependent intensities. In the isolated rat ventricular myocytes, stimulation with the voltage protocol roughly mimicked action potential generated a large inward current which was partially blocked by nifedipine or $Na^+$ current inhibition. 0 Ca application suppressed the inward current by $39{\pm}4%$ while the current was further suppressed after 0 Na-0 Ca application by $53{\pm}3%.$ Caffeine increased this inward current by $44{\pm}3%$ in spite of 14 mM EGTA. Finally, the $Na^+$ current-dependent fraction of the inward current was increased in a stimulation frequency-dependent manner. From these results, it is concluded that the $Ca^{2+}$ exit-mode (forward-mode) $Na^+-Ca^{2+}$ exchange suppresses the LA tension by extruding $Ca^{2+}$ out of the cell right after its release from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) in a frequency-dependent manner during contraction, resulting in the negative frequency-force relationship in the rat LA.
This paper presents characteristics of frequency-dependent grounding impedance and transient grounding impedance for the carbon compound grounding electrode used in the installation of computerized electronic equipment and lightning protection system. The frequency-dependent grounding impedances were measured by applying sinusoidal currents in the frequency range from 100 [Hz] to 10[MHz], and the transient grounding impedances were examined by subjecting the impulse current with the front-time between 1~80[${\mu}s$]. As a result, the ground resistance of the carbon compound grounding electrode is less than that of another type grounding electrodes. The transient grounding impedance is relatively low and the conventional grounding impedance is rather lower than the ground resistance. The frequency-dependent grounding impedance of the carbon compound grounding electrode is capacitive and the grounding impedance is decreased with increasing the frequency of injected currents. Therefore in the case that the carbon compound grounding electrode is jointly used with large-scaled grounding electrodes, it is possible to reduce the high frequency grounding impedance of the integrated grounding electrode system.
