In analysis of underground structures, the effects of artificial boundary conditions are considered as one of the major reasons for differences from experimental results. These phenomena can be overcome by using the boundary elements which satisfy the multi-layered half space conditions. The fundamental solutions of multi-layered half-space for boundary element method is formulated satisfying the transmission and reflection of waves at each layer interface and radiation conditions at bottom layer. The governing equations can be obtained from the displacements at each layer which are expressed in terms of harmonic functions. All types of waves can be included using the complete response from semi-infinite integrals with respect to horizontal wavenumbers using expansion of Fourier series and Hankel transformation. Two dimensional Green's functions are derived from cylindrical Navier equations and potentials performing infinite integration in y-direction. In this case, it is effective to transform into two dimensional problem using semi-analytical integration and sinusoidal Bessel function. Some verifications are given to show the accuracy and efficiency of the developed method, and numerical examples to demonstrate the dynamic behavior of underground with various properties.

This paper discusses the development of an interactive and graphic software for the education and training of power system operation and control, especially for students and beginners. This software has a lot of functions for users to simulate the power system operation and control with ease. These functions included in this software are followings. First, this software includes a Graphic User Interface (GUI) - which contains interactive simulation scheme, Windows dialog box, graphic representations, and graphic icons - so that users can handle the software in user-friendly environments. Second, it uses a graphic editor so that users can easily edit the one-line diagram of the power system. Third, it prepares a database system so that users can manage the power system data for simulation easily. Fourth, the application modules included in the software are the Economic Dispatch (ED) and the Automatic Load-Frequency Control (ALFC). These application modules are designed as independent modules. Using the ED module, users can understand the basic concepts of the ED with ease. And using the ALFC module, they can easily acquire the basic understanding of the response of the ALFC between the two-area systems. The proposed software is tested on both the 16 bus and the two-area sample system. The test has confirmed the functions of the developed software. It is anticipated that the software will be useful for the education and training of power system operation and control for the power engineering study at university or for the training of the beginner at power industry.

This paper describes the test procedure, instrumentation, verification methodology and the results of the ground vibration test(GVT) and force vibration test(FVT) of the SmartUAV aircraft to estimate experimentally dynamic characteristics of the aircraft. Bungee cords are used to emulate free-free boundary conditions of the test aircraft. The SmartUAV is excited by three shakers and one-hundred frequency response functions(FRF's) is measured. The FRF's are reduced and analyzed to identify the dynamics parameters of the SmartUAV. To extract modal parameters of the SmartUAV such as, natural frequencies and damping ratios, the poly-reference least square complex exponential method is used in the time domain. The mode shape coefficients are estimated with the least squares frequency domain method to identify the vibration modes. The FVT was performed by fixed sine frequency with three shakers on the x, y and z direction and vibration characteristics of structures and detail equipments are measured.

This paper proposes an optimal design method of linear viscous dampers for the seismic performance of two adjacent structures with different heights. Accordingly, connection method using diagonal bracing between two floors and connection method between two structures are considered, and the effectiveness of the latter method is confirmed through the comparison of the frequency response functions with respect to damping capacity. Moreover, optimal damping to minimize the response of the adjacent structures in the frequency domain is found. The sensitivity of natural frequency and modal damping according to the damper capacity at each floor is obtained for the optimally designed system. From the sensitivity analysis, the modal damping is evaluated to be very sensitive to the damper installed at higher floor. Therefore, sensitivity-based damping distribution method is proposed. Diagonal bracing connection method, uniform distribution method and sensitivity-based distribution method are compared to each other in terms of seismic performance. The comparative results demonstrate that the proposed method is an effective seismic design method for the adjacent structures.

Modal Analysis is the process of characterizing the dynamic properties of an elastic structure by identifying its modes of vibration. A mode of vibration is a global property of an elastic structure. That is, a mode has a specific natural frequency and damping factor which can be identified from response data at practically any point on a structure, and it has a characteristic mode shape which identifies the mode spatially over the entire structure. Modal testing is able to be performed on structural and mechanical structure in an effort to learn more about their elastic behavior. Once the dynamic properties of a structure are known its behavior can be predicted and therefore controlled or corrected. Resonant frequencies, damping factors and mode shape data can be used directly by a mechanical designer to pin point weak spots in a structure design, or this data can also be used to confirm or synthesize equations of motion for the elastic structure. These differential equations can be used to simulate structural response to know input forces and to examine the effects of pertubations in the distributed mass, stiffness and damping properties of the structure in more detail. In this paper the measurement of transfer functions in digital form, and the application of digital parameter identification techniques to identify modal parameters from the measured transfer function data are discussed. It is first shown that the transfer matrix, which is a complete dynamic model of an elastic plate structure can be written in terms of the structural modes of vibration. This special mathematical form allows one to identify the complete dynamics of the structure from a much reduced set of test data, and is the essence of the modal approach to identifying the dynamics of a structure. Finally, the application of transfer function models and identification techniques for obtaining modal parameters from the transfer function data are discussed. Characteristics on vibration response of elastic plate structure obtained from the dynamic analysis by Finite Element Method are compared with results of modal analysis.
Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) is the main payload of Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT) with the mission of cartography to build up a digital map of Korean territory including Digital Terrain Elevation Map(DTEM). This instrument which comprises EOC Sensor Assembly and EOC Electronics Assembly produces the panchromatic images of 6.6 m GSD with a swath wider than 17 km by push-broom scanning and spacecraft body pointing in a visible range of wavelength, 510 ~ 730 nm. The high resolution panchromatic image is to be collected for 2 minutes during 98 minutes of orbit cycle covering about 800 km along ground track, over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable rain/offset and on-board image data storage. The image of 8 bit digitization, which is collected by a full reflective type F8.3 triplet without obscuration, is to be transmitted to Ground Station at a rate less than 25 Mbps. EOC was elaborated to have the performance which meets or surpasses its requirements of design phase. The spectral response the modulation transfer function, and the uniformity of all the 2592 pixel of CCD of EOC are illustrated as they were measured for the convenience of end-user. The spectral response was measured with respect to each gain setup of EOC and this is expected to give the capability of generating more accurate panchromatic image to the EOC data users. The modulation transfer function of EOC was measured as greater than 16% at Nyquist frequency over the entire field of view which exceeds its requirement of larger than 10%, The uniformity that shows the relative response of each pixel of CCD was measured at every pixel of the Focal Plane Array of EOC and is illustrated for the data processing.
In this paper, an analytical solution for thermodynamic response of functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates resting on variable elastic foundation is performed by using a quasi 3D shear deformation plate theory. The displacement field used in the present study contains undetermined integral terms and involves only four unknown functions with including stretching effect. The FG sandwich plate is considered to be subject to a time harmonic sinusoidal temperature field across its thickness with any combined boundary conditions. Equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. The numerical results are compared with the existing results of quasi-3D shear deformation theories and an excellent agreement is observed. Several numerical examples for fundamental frequency, deflection, stress and variable elastic foundation parameter's analysis of FG sandwich plates are presented and discussed considering different material gradients, layer thickness ratios, thickness-to-length ratios and boundary conditions. The results of the present study reveal that the nature of the elastic foundation, the boundary conditions and the thermodynamic loading affect the response of the FG plate especially in the case of a thick plate.
The use of electricity and communication between electronic devices is increasing daily, which makes the stability of electrical power supply vital. Since the 1990s, large earthquakes have occurred frequently causing considerable direct damage to electrical power facilities as well as secondary damage, such as difficulty in restoring functions due to the interruption of electric power supply. Therefore, it is very important to establish measures to protect electrical power facilities, such as transformers and switchboards, from earthquakes. In this study, a 154 kV transformer whose service life had expired was installed on the base fabricated by simulating the field conditions and conducting the shaking table tests. The dynamic characteristics and seismic behavior of the 154 kV transformer were analyzed through the resonance frequency search test and seismic simulation test that considers the front, rear, left, and right directions. Since the purpose of this study is to analyze the acceleration amplification in the bushing due to the acceleration amplification, the experimental results were analyzed focusing on the acceleration response and the converted acceleration amplification ratio rather than the failure due to the displacement response of the transformer. The seismic force amplification at the transformer bushing was evaluated by simulating the characteristics of electrical power facilities in South Korea, and compared with the IEC TS 61463 acceleration amplification factor. Finally, the amplification factor at zero period acceleration (ZPA) modified for each return period was summarized. The results of this study can be used as data to define the amplification factor at ZPA of the transformer bushing, simulating the characteristics of electrical power facilities in Korea.

This paper demonstrates a real-time hybrid substructuring (RTHS) shake table test to evaluate the seismic performance of a base isolated building. Since RTHS involves a feedback loop in the test implementation, the frequency dependent magnitude and inherent time delay of the actuator dynamics can introduce inaccuracy and instability. The paper presents a robust stability and performance analysis method for the RTHS test. The robust stability method involves casting the actuator dynamics as a multiplicative uncertainty and applying the small gain theorem to derive the sufficient conditions for robust stability and performance. The attractive feature of this robust stability and performance analysis method is that it accommodates linearized modeled or measured frequency response functions for both the physical substructure and actuator dynamics. Significant experimental research has been conducted on base isolators and dampers toward developing high fidelity numerical models. Shake table testing, where the building superstructure is tested while the isolation layer is numerically modeled, can allow for a range of isolation strategies to be examined for a single shake table experiment. Further, recent concerns in base isolation for long period, long duration earthquakes necessitate adding damping at the isolation layer, which can allow higher frequency energy to be transmitted into the superstructure and can result in damage to structural and nonstructural components that can be difficult to numerically model and accurately predict. As such, physical testing of the superstructure while numerically modeling the isolation layer may be desired. The RTHS approach has been previously proposed for base isolated buildings, however, to date it has not been conducted on a base isolated structure isolated at the ground level and where the isolation layer itself is numerically simulated. This configuration provides multiple challenges in the RTHS stability associated with higher physical substructure frequencies and a low numerical to physical mass ratio. This paper demonstrates a base isolated RTHS test and the robust stability and performance analysis necessary to ensure the stability and accuracy. The tests consist of a scaled idealized 4-story superstructure building model placed directly onto a shake table and the isolation layer simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using a dSpace real-time controller.
Dynamic characteristics of a structure, i.e., natural frequency and mode shape, have been widely using as an input data in the area of structural integrity or health monitoring which combined with the damage evaluation and structural system identification techniques. It is very difficult, however, to get those information by the conventional modal analysis method from large structures, such as the offshore structure or the long-span bridge, since the source of vibration is not available. In this paper, a method to obtain the frequencies and the mode shapes of a large span truss structure using only acceleration responses is studied. The calculation procedures to obtain acceleration responses and frequency response functions are provided utilizing a numerical model of the truss, and the process to extract natural frequencies and mode shapes from the modal analysis is cleary explained. The extracted mode shapes by proposed method are compared with those from eigenvalue analysis for the estimation of accuracy. The validity of the mode shapes is also demonstrated using an existing damage detection technique for the truss structure by simulated damage cases.
