  • In this work, a frequency domain method is tested numerically and experimentally to improve nonlinear model parameters using the frequency response function at the nonlinear element connected point of structure. This method extends the force-state mapping technique, which fits the nonlinear element forces with time domain response data, into frequency domain manipulations. The force-state mapping method in the time domain has limitations when applying to complex real structures because it needd a time domain lumped parameter model. On the other hand, the frequency domain method is relatively easily applicable to a complex real structure having nonlinear elements since it uses the frequency response function of each substurcture. Since this mehtod is performed in frequency domain, the number of equations required to identify the unknown parameters can be easily increased as many as it needed, just by not only varying excitation amplitude bot also selecting excitation frequency domain method has some advantages over the classical force-state mapping technique in the number of data points needed in curve fit and the sensitivity to response noise.

  • Buckling and vibration of laminated non-circular cylindrical shells with constant thickness and simply supported boundary condition is considered. Governing equations are derived based on the Donnell and Flugge shell theory and Galerkin method is applied for the numerical analysis. Comparisons are made between present results and others. Variations of frequency parameter and buckling load parameter on the change of stacking angle, eccentricity parameter and shell theories are investigated. Conclusion of this study is as follows: (1) General solutions of buckling and vibration of laminated non-circular cylindrical shell are obtained. (2) Frequency parameter is decreased as the initial axial load is increased. (3) In general, frequency and buckling load parameter of laminated non-circular cylindrical shells are decreased as increasing of eccentricity parameter and stacking angle.

  • Parameter modification of a linear finite element model(FEM) based on modal sensitivity matrix is usually performed through an effort to match FEM modal data to experimental ones. However, there are cases where this method can't be applied successfully; lack of reliable modal data and ill-conditioning of the modal sensitivity matrix constitute such cases. In this research, a novel concept of introducing feedback loops to the conventional modal test setup is proposed. This method uses closed-loop natural frequency data for parameter modification to overcome the problems associated with the conventional method based on modal sensitivity matrix. We proposed the whole procedure of parameter modification using the closed-loop natural frequency data including the modal sensitivity modification and controller design method. Proposed controller design method is efficient in changing modes. Numerical simulation of parameter estimation based on time-domain input/output data is provided to demonstrate the estimation performance of the proposed method.

  • This study examines the wavelet transform for output-only system identification of ambient excited engineering structures with emphasis on its utilization for modal parameter estimation of high-order and closely-spaced modes. Sophisticated time-frequency resolution analysis has been carried out by employing the modified complex Morlet wavelet function for better adaption and flexibility of the time-frequency resolution to extract two closely-spaced frequencies. Furthermore, bandwidth refinement techniques such as a bandwidth resolution adaptation, a broadband filtering technique and a narrowband filtering one have been proposed in the study for the special treatments of high-order and closely-spaced modal parameter estimation. Ambient responses of a 5-story steel frame building have been used in the numerical example, using the proposed bandwidth refinement techniques, for estimating the modal parameters of the high-order and closely-spaced modes. The first five natural frequencies and damping ratios of the structure have been estimated; furthermore, the comparison among the various proposed bandwidth refinement techniques has also been examined.

  • The distributed-parameter structures expressed with the partial differential equations are considered as the infinite-dimensional dynamic system. For implementation of a controller in multivariate systems, it is necessary to derive the state-space reduced order model. By the eigensystem realization algorithm, we can yield tile subspace system with the Markov parameters derived from the measured frequency response function by the inverse discrete Fourier transformation. We also review the necessary conditions for the convergence of the approximation system and the error bounds in terms of the singular values of Markov-parameter matrices. To determine the natural frequencies and modal damping ratios, the modal coordinate transformation is applied to the realization system. The vibration test for a smart structure is performed to provide the records of frequency response functions used in the subspace system realization.

  • The prediction method of the parameter C/sub gs/ of CMOS transistor is proposed by calculating the mobil charge in inversion layer of COMS transistor. This parameter C/sub gs/ decided on the cutoff frequency in MOS transistor in RF range and coupled input and output. This parameter C/sub gs/ in RF range is very important parameter in small signal circuit model. This proposed method is contributed to developing software of extracting parameter value in equivalent circuit model. The method provide the important information to construct a RF nonlinear model for multifinger gate MOSFET. This method will be very valuable to develop a large signal MOSFET model for nonlinear RF IC design.

  • This article investigates the longitudinal vibration of a nanorod embedded in viscoelastic medium according to the nonlocal strain gradient theory. Viscoelastic medium is considered based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Governing partial differential equation is derived based on longitudinal equilibrium and analytical solution is obtained by adopting harmonic motion solution for the nanorod. Modal frequencies and corresponding damping ratios are presented to demonstrate the influences of nonlocal parameter, material length scale, elastic and damping parameters of the viscoelastic medium. It is observed that material length scale parameter is very influential on modal frequencies especially at lower values of nonlocal parameter whereas increase in length scale parameter has less effect at higher values of nonlocal parameter when the medium is purely elastic. Elastic stiffness and damping coefficient of the medium have considerable impacts on modal frequencies and damping ratios, and the highest impact of these parameters on frequency and damping ratio is seen in the first mode. Results calculated based on strain gradient theory are quite different from those calculated based on classical elasticity theory. Hence, nonlocal strain gradient theory including length scale parameter can be used to get more accurate estimations of frequency response of nanorods embedded in viscoelastic medium.

  • In this study, one of the techniques on the extension of low flow series has been developed, in which the daily streamflows were simulated by the Tank model with the input of extended daily rainfall series which were stochastically generated by the Markov chain model. The annual lowest flow serried for each of the given durations were formulated form the simulated daily streamflow sequences. The frequency of the estimated annual lowest flow series was analyzed. The distribution types to be used for the frequency analysis were two-parameter and three-parameter log-normal distribution, two-parameter and three-parameter Gamma distribution, three-parameter log-Gamma distribution, Gumbel distribution, and Weibull distribution, of which parameters were estimated by the moment method and the maximum likelihood method. The goodness-of-fit test for probability distribution is evaluated by the Kolmogorov-Sminrov test. The fitted distribution function for each duration series is applied to frequency analysis for developing duration-low flow-frequency curves at Yongdam Dam station. It was shown that the purposed technique in this study is available to generate the daily streamflow series with fair accuracy and useful to determine the probabilistic low flow in the watersheds having the poor historic records of low flow series.

  • In this paper we develop the software simulator written in a C language for a frequency modulation synthesis and the approximate range of parameters, for a musically satisfactory timbre, obtained by using the software simulator will be applied to develop an algorithm for parameter extraction. For a frequency modulation synthesis, we also develop an algorithm for parameter extraction through waveform analysis in the time domain as well as spectrum analysis using a FFT in the frequency domain. To verify the validity of the developed algorithm as well as software simulator experimentally, we extract parameters for the several music instruments using the suggested algorithm and analyze the synthesized sound by applying the parameters to the software simulator. The evaluation of the synthesized sound is first done by listening the sound directly as a subjective testing. Secondly, to evaluate the synthesized sound objectively with an engineering sense, we compare the synthesized sound with an original one in a time domain and a frequency domain.
