In order to investigate the dynamic behavior of weathered granite soils before and after freezing-thawing, cyclic triaxial tests were conducted for the specimens not only with the variation of silt contents within 20% but with plasticity index within 20%. As the results, the dynamic shear modulus of weathered granite soils decreased with increasing silt contents. However, the change in damping ratio was negligible. The influence of freezing-thawing on shear modulus and damping ratio was minimal for the granite soils with variation of silt contents. For the case of the weathered soils with variation of plasticity index, the shear modulus increased with plasticity index within 20%, while the modulus decreased remarkably after freezing-thawing.

This study aimed to investigate the engineering and environmental characteristics of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures composed of phosphogypsum, soil, and a small amount of cement was analysed on the basis of the unconfined compression test, the tensile strength test, the freezing and thawing test, the wetting and drying test, SEM and EDS analysis, XRD analysis and Leaching test. The specimens were manufactured with soil, cement and phosphogypsum. The cement contents was 10 %, and the phosphogypsum contents was 10, 20, 30, and 40 % by the weight of total dry soil. Each specimen was manufactured after curing at constant temperature and humidity room for 3, 7 and 28 days, after which the engineering characteristics of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures were investigated using the unconfined compression test, the tensile strength test, the freezing and thawing test, the wetting and drying test. The basic data were presented for the application of phosphogypsum-cement-soil mixtures as construction materials. To investigate the environmental characteristics, leaching test was performed and the leaching test results were far below than of regulatory requirement of Waste Management Act in Korea. Therefore the results show that phosphogypsum is environmentally safe and can be used as construction materials in environmental aspect.
In this study, mechanical properties of Very-Rapid Hardening Polymer (VRHP) mortar were investigated. To do it, 75 VRHP mortar specimens were tested by the compressive test, bending test, bonding test, freezing and thawing test, length variation test, and water absorption test. From the test results, it was confirmed that the bond strength of VRHP was higher than that of normal concrete by 50 %, and the resistance of freezing and thawing of VRHP was more excellent than normal concrete. In addition, length variation ratio and water absorption ratio of VRHP were smaller than those of normal concrete by 20 %. Therefore, It should be mentioned that VRHP can be successfully used as the material for repairing the crack of concrete structure.
In clod weather regions, a strong seasonal wind brings sea salts to the land. In addition to it, recently, the spreading amount of deicing salts has increased numerously for purpose of removing snow and ice. Thus the salts environment around concrete structures becomes so severe that various damages of concrete due to applied salts will be brought up. Much of countries such as America, Europe etc. is carried out study for effects of deicing salts on concrete. However, there are not test methods for deterioration of concrete subjected to both freezing-thawing and chloride in Korea. In this study, we carried out test for the compound deterioration subjected to both freezing-thawing and chloride attack, to investigate the effects of sodium chloride on the deterioration of concrete. The test was performed to investigate the effects of cement type, strength and air content on the scaling deterioration of concrete. As a result, the scaling deterioration was accelerated in the presence of salts. And the resistance to scaling was strongly influenced by the type of cement, the strength and air content of concrete.
Rock slope near the road or railroad is affected by the outside temperature and iterative freezing-thawing process during winter and early spring. The purpose of this study is to analyze the stability of rock slope which is iniluenced by deterioration due to the freezing-thawing. Method of analysis is homogenization method which find the strength property of discontinuous rock mass and as a strength failure criterion, Drucker-Prager failure criterion is used, The deterioration property of real rock is obtained by a freezing-thawing labordtory test of tuff and this quantitative property is used as a basic data of stability analysis of rock mass. To evaluate the deterioration depth due to the freezing-thawing in the field rock slope, one dimensional heat conductivity equation is used and as a a result we can find the depth of which is affected by a temperature. After determined the freezing-thawing depth of model slope, the pattern of rock mass strength value of model rock slope which excess the limit of self-load is analyzed.

Purpose: This study was conducted for enhancing the performance of a conventional quick freezer by introducing the supercooling state, using a low-temperature coolant. Methods: In the present investigation, the supercooling process was executed prior to quick freezing for reducing the time by which the temperature passes the zone of maximum ice crystal formation. Every food has different nucleation points and hence, we used silicone oil as the coolant for supercooling for easy modification of temperature. Additionally, for quick freezing, we used liquid nitrogen spray. Results: Using the heat exchanger-type precooler with silicone oil, the temperature of the chamber was easily changed for enabling supercooling. Particularly, the results of the freezing test with garlic indicated that this system improved the hardness of garlic after it was thawed, compared to the conventional freezing method. Conclusions: Before quick freezing, if the food item is subjected to the supercooling state, the time from nucleation to the temperature reaching the frozen state ($-5^{\circ}C$, which is the maximum ice crystal formation zone) will be shorter than that incurred using quick freezing alone. The combination of the heat exchanger-type supercooler and liquid nitrogen sprayer is expected to serve as a promising technology for improving the physicochemical qualities of frozen foods.
This study was carried out to investigate On in vitro fertilization, survival rate and developmental rate of rapidly frozen bovine immature oocytes. Immature oocytes cultured for 1, 12, 24, 48 hours in 20% FCS + TCM-199 medium and thereafter rapidly freezing-thawed oocytes inseminated with capacitated sperm. The immature oocytes following dehydration by 1.5M DMSO + 2.0M glycerol + 0.25M sucrose + TCM 199 media + 20% FGS were directly plunged into liquid nitrogen and thawes in 3$0^{\circ}C$ water. Rapid freezing embryos co-cultured in 20% FCS + TCM-199 media containing hormones(21U/mL PMSG, 21U /mL hGG and 1 $\mu$g /mL 17$\beta$-estradiol) and cumulus cells(1 x 105-6 cells). Survival rate was defined as development rate on in vitro culture or FDA-test. The results are summarized as follows ; 1. The in vitro maturation and fertilization rate of immature bovine oocytes on in vitro maturation period(1, 12, 24, 48 hrs) before rapid freezing4hawed were 57.1%, 45.7%, 37.1%, 25.7% and 40.0%, 31.4%, 20.0%, 11.4%, respectively. 2. The survival rate of immature bovine oocytes on in vitro maturation period(1, 12, 24, 48 hrs) before rapid freezing-thawed were 33.3%, 26.7%, 20.0%, and 10.0%, respectively. The survival rate of rapid freezing4hawed immature oocytes was significantly lower than that of non-freezing oocytes. 3. The strengthening performance of FRPs(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) is directly affected by the environmental conditions such as freezing-thawing and moisture because FRPs are usually bonded on the concrete surface. It is, therefore, strongly required to evaluate a durability of bond between FRPs and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The freezing-thawing resistance of FRPs is evaluated in this study with the variables of freezing-thawing conditions, types of FRP and freezing-thawing cycles. From the test results, it is found that tensile strength and pull-off strength of CFRP are not affected by the freezing-thawing. On the other hands, those of GFRP show a little degradation because of continuous water immersion during thawing process. But, cautions are needed on the bond durability between FRPs and concrete in case of continuous water supplying from adjacent to the concrete.
