This paper gives an overview of fractional-N phase-locked loops (PLLs) with practical design perspectives focusing on a ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ modulation technique and a finite-impulse response (FIR) filtering method. Spur generation and nonlinearity issues in the ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ fractional-N PLLs are discussed with simulation and hardware results. High-order ${\Delta}{\Sigma}$ modulation with FIR-embedded filtering is considered for low noise frequency generation. Also, various architectures of finite-modulo fractional-N PLLs are reviewed for alternative low cost design, and the FIR filtering technique is shown to be useful for spur reduction in the finite-modulo fractional-N PLL design.
This paper describes a 1 GHz, low-phase-noise CMOS fractional-N frequency synthesizer with an integrated LC VCO. The proposed frequency synthesizer, which uses a high-order delta-sigma modulator to suppress the fractional spurious tones at all multiples of the fractional frequency resolution offset, has 64 programmable frequency channels with frequency resolution of $f_ref/64$. The measured phase noise is as low as -110 dBc/Hz at a 200 KHz offset frequency from a carrier frequency of 980 MHz. The reference sideband spurs are -73.5 dBc. The prototype is implemented in a $0.5{\mu}m$ CMOS process with triple metal layers. The active chip area is about $4mm^2$ and the prototype consumes 43 mW, including the VCO buffer power consumption, from a 3.3 V supply voltage.

Ultrafine powders(UFPs) of aluminum nitride(AlN) have been synthesized by chemical reactions in the nitrogen atmosphere and the gaseous aluminum evaporated from Al powders in thermal plasmas produced by a DC plasma torch. A synthesis system consisting of a plasma torch, a finely-controllable powder feeder, a reaction chamber, and a quenching-collection chamber have been designed and manufactured, and a filter for gathering AlN UFPs produced by the quenching process subsequent to the synthesis is set up. The synthesis process is interpreted by numerical analyses of the plasma-particle interaction and the chemical equilibrium state, respectively, and a fully-saturated fractional factorial test is used to find the optimum process conditions. The degrees and ultrafineness of synthesis are evaluated by means of SEM, TEM, XRD, and ESCA analyses. AlN UFPs synthesized in the optimum process conditions have polygonal shapes of the size of 5-100 nm, and their purities differ depending on collecting positions and filter types, and the maximum purity obtained is 72 wt% at the filter.
The fractional synthesis rates(FSR) were measured with 2l-wk and 3l-wk-old broiler breeder pullets and hens to investigate the effect of sexual maturity on FSR. The FSR were obtained from chicken tissues and blood samples using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry(HPLC/MS). A L-l-13C, 15N -leucine saline solution was infused by bolus injection as a tracer into broiler breeder pullets in the experiment. A rapid HPLC/MS method was developed to measure the isotopic enrichments of leucine in plasma, tissue samples, and eggs. The enrichments of stable isotope leucine incorporated into protein and the enrichments of the stable isotope free leucine were measured in liver, breast muscle and blood samples. Two sets of experiments were conducted. In experiment one, 2l-wk-old, sexually immature broiler breeder pullets were divided into groups of three and blood samples were collected at 20 or 30 min intervals until 1.5 h from initial injection. The pullets were sacrificed in groups of three at varying time intervals for 7 h after injection. The liver, breast muscle and blood samples were removed for analysis. The FSR were estimated to be 8.7l%/day for liver, 4.06%/day for breast muscle, and 5.08%/day for blood samples in 30 minutes after injection from the enrichment ratios. In experiment two, sexually matured 3l-wk-old broiler breeder hens were assorted into groups of three and blood samples were obtained at 20 or 30 min intervals for 2 h. The FSR for blood samples were determined. The broiler breeder hens were sacrificed in groups of three at various time intervals until 7 h after injection and liver, breast muscle and blood samples were removed for analysis. The FSR were calculated to be 5.96%/day for liver. Eggs were collected from five chickens daily for 10 days after large bolus injection. The average of total enrichments of stable isotope in egg albumin was increased by 0.064% at 4 days after injection and was back to normal in 7 days.

This paper presents a clock regenerator using two $2^{nd}$ order ${\sum}-{\Delta}$ (sigma-delta) modulators for wide range of dividing ratio as defined in HDMI standard. The proposed circuit adopts a fractional-N frequency synthesis architecture for PLL-based clock regeneration. By converting the integer and decimal part of the N and CTS values in HDMI format and processing separately at two different ${\sum}-{\Delta}$ modulators, the proposed circuit covers a very wide range of the dividing ratio as HDMI standard. The circuit is fabricated using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS and shows 13 mW power consumption with an on-chip loop filter implementation.
Partial enteral nutrition (PEN) supplemented with insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) to neonatal piglets receiving parenteral nutrition increases lactase-phlorizin hydrolase (LPH) activity, but not LPH mRNA. The goal of the current study was to investigate the mechanism by which IGF-I up-regulates LPH activity. We hypothesized that IGF-I regulates LPH synthesis post-transcriptionally. Methods: Newborn piglets (n=15) received 100% parenteral nutrition (TPN), 80% parenteral nutrition + 20% PEN (PEN), or PEN + IGF-I (1.0mg/kg/d). On day 7, two stable isotopes of leucine, [$^2 H_3$]-leucine and [$^{13}C_1$]-L-leucine were intravenously administered to measure mucosal protein and brush LPH (BB LPH) synthesis. Results: Weight gain, nutrient intake and jejunal weight and length were similar among the treatment groups. PEN increased mucosal weight, villus width and cross-sectional area, LPH activity, mRNA expression and the abundance of proLPHh compared to 100% TPN (p<0.05). IGF-I further increased mucosal weight, LPH activity and LPH activity per unit BB LPH ~2-fold over PEN alone (p<0.05), but did not affect LPH mRNA or the abundance of proLPHh or mature LPH. Isotopic enrichment of [$^2 H_3$]-leucine and [$^{13}C_1$]-L-leucine in plasma, mucosal protein and LPH precursors, and the fractional and absolute synthesis rates of mucosal protein and LPH were similar among the treatment groups. Total mucosal protein synthesis was increased 60% (p<0.05) and LPH synthesis tended (p=0.14) to be greater in the IGF-I treated animals compared to the other two groups. Conclusions: The primary mechanism by which IGF-I up-regulates LPH may be post-translational, either via reducing LPH turnover, or by specifically altering LPH activity.

Acyclonucleoside homologues of 1-$(\omega$-cyabnoalkyl)-and 1, 3-bis $(\omega$-cyanoalkyl) uracils were synthesized by the series of alkylation reactions of uracil with the $\omega$-chloroalkyl nitrile ${(Cl-(CH}_2)_n$-CN;n=1, 2, 3, 4) in DMSO under $50-70^circ{C}$ temperature. The 1-$(\omega$-cyanoalkyl)-and 1, 3-bis$(\omega$-cyanoalkyl) uracils were separated either by the fractional crystallization or column chromatography. The antitumor activities for these synthesized compounds were determined against four cell lines (J-82 cell, P388 cell, FM-3A cell and U-937 cell lines). These compounds failed to exhibit any significant antitumor activity.
Polycarbosilane(PCS) as a SiC precursor was synthesized from the rearrangement reaction of polydimethysilane(PDMS) in an autoclave, which prepared by dehalocoupling reaction of dichlorodimethylsilane. After fractional precipitation into three fractions in n-hexane-methanol mixture, they were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, GPC, TGA/DSC and XRD, and compared with the commercial product. We found that the molecular weight distributions of the PCS depended on the reaction pressures, temperatures and the reaction times, and affected thermal property and ceramic yield of the polymer. The monodispersed PCS containing less amount of oligomers and nonsoluble products was prepared by reaction of PDMS at $420^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs, and it also gave the greatest amount of medium molecular weight($M_n=4,000$) fraction.

[99mTc]Tc-Hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (HMPAO) is currently used as a regional cerebral blood flow imaging agent for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The HMPAO ligand exists in two isomeric forms: d,l and meso showing different properties in vivo. Later studies indicated that brain uptake patterns of 99mTc-complexes formed from separated enantiomers differed. Separation of enantiomers is difficult by fractional crystallizations method. Usually, the substance is obtained in low chemical yield in a time-consuming procedure. Furthermore, the final product still contains some impurity. So we have developed new efficient route for synthesis of R,R- and S,S-HMPAO enantiomeric compounds in 6-steps. Nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions of 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine either with S- (1a) or R-methyl2-chloropropanoate (1b) were performed to produce compounds R,R- (2a) or S,S-isomer (2b) derivatives protected with benzylchloroformate (Cbz), respectively. And then Weinreb amide and methylation reaction using Grignard reagent, oxime formation with ketone group and deprotectiion of Cbz group by hydrogenolysis gave S,S- (7a) or R,R-HMPAO (7b), respectively. Entaniomeric compounds were synthesied with high yield and purity without any undesired product. The 7a or 7b kits containing 10 ㎍ SnCl2-2H2O were labeled with 99mTc with high radiolabeling yield (90%).
Doxorubicin is still main drug in chemotherapy with limitation of use due to adverse drug reaction. Increased oxidative stress and alteration of nitric oxide control have been involved in cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin (DOX). A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase (ADAMs) are transmembrane ectoproteases to regulate cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, but role in cardiac disease is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine whether DOX activates peroxynitrite and ADAM 10 and thus ADAM and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) induce cardiac remodeling in DOX-induced cardiomyopathy. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to cardiomyopathy by DOX (6 times of 2.5 mg/kg DOX over 2-weeks), and were randomized as four groups. Then followed by 3, 5, 7, and 14 days after cessation of DOX injection. DOX-injected animals significantly decreased left ventricular fractional shortening compared with control by M-mode echocardiography. The expressions of cardiac nitrotyrosine by immunohistochemistry were significant increased, and persisted for 2 weeks following the last injection. The expression of eNOS was increased by 1.9 times (p<0.05), and iNOS was marked increased in DOX-heart compared with control (p<0.001). Compared to control rats, cardiac ADAM10- and MMP 9- protein expressions increased by 20 times, and active/total MMP 9 proteolytic activity showed increase tendency at day 14 after cessation of DOX injection (n=10, each group). DOX-treated $H_9C_2$ cell showed increased ADAM10 protein expression with dose-dependency (p<0.01) and morphometric changes showed the increase of ventricular interstitial, nonvascular collagen deposition. These data suggest that activation of cardiac peroxynitrite with increased iNOS expression and ADAM 10-dependent MMP 9 expression may be a molecular mechanism that contributes to left ventricular remodeling in DOXinduced cardiomyopathy.
